The diving back take is often seen as a flashy move, but it is also extremely useful. Your opponent is usually expecting you to pass the guard so they defend in a specific way, but when you chain your attacks to threaten the back from top it off sets so many movements they use to defend. This video I give a fast guide to understanding these attacks and how to use them.

@@JonThomasBJJ Quick question since I"m playing a lot of no-gi lately: Would you just grab onto the hip for that first diving back take since there's no collar to grab? Is it still pretty high percentage without the fabric to grab onto?

Oh to be young and flexible again. Getting hit by a car while riding a motorcycle took all that away years ago. Still truckin' along but these moves are very difficult to hit. Your technique is awesome though! Thank you for the video. I'll give this a try and buy some stock in whoever makes Advil later. :)

@JonThomasBJJ COACH: Any details to make sure they don’t have a secure hold/lock on that planted foot? My knee hurts watching you do that rotation at full speed with your foot planted in his grip. Ossu.
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 2 года назад
You just need to turn your foot in that direction as well, there is no weird pressure on my knee at al when doing it.

Can someone tickle my brain! Would this be considered a guard pass and a back take? Or just a back take? This is definitely looking like a 7 point play.
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 2 года назад
No you need to pass to side or mount to get the pass points, this is just 4 got back control
