This is my tribute, in 1/350 scale, to the Jimmy Doolittle raid on Tokyo in April of 1942. I have the USS Hornet, CV-8, which carried the B-25 bombers, the USS Enterprise, CV-6, which escorted the Hornet and gave her air cover, the USS Vincennes, CA-44, and the USS Grayson, DD-435, both of which were two of the 12 warship escort for the two carriers.
The Hornet and the Vincennes would both be sunk by the Japanese within 6-8 months of the raid on Tokyo in the various battles around Guadalcanal. The Enterprise would go on to be the most decorated warship in US history and survive the war. The Grayson would also survive the war.
I have many 1/350 scale models, mostly modern warships, but also some World War II. Google me on Fine Scale Modeler, or RU-vid to see them.

Great models and a great history lesson. I love what the Enterprise did and sad that they didn't make her into a museam for what she did instead of scrapping the old girl.

Agreed 1000% about the Enterprise. She should never have been scrapped. Ultimately they realized the mistake and created five Essex class Museum ships. See: www.jeffhead.com/US-CVMuseums.htm

I was amazed on his travels on that ship. He told me a few of the times he was in action but not many . One was he always sat on the top of the smokestacks and could see the pilots faces as they flew by. Always giving him the kiss my ass sign.

Thank you. I put quite a few out...but have a LOT more, including full CSGs of the Chinese, Russians, French, Royal NAvy (using the Illustrious), the Japanese with their Hyuga class, etc. I really need to get some of those on here. I also a a complete US Navy CSG which I could show three carrier...but since Enterprise CVN-65 is decommissioned (or at least deactivated) I would have to do two with the USS Robnald Reagan and the USS Enterprise CVN-80, with 3-4 Burkes, 1-2 Ticos, and two Freedom class LCS outfitted for ASW and a Virginia CLass, the USS Texas, and a Sea Wolf class, the USS Sea Wolf. I also have a complete US NavyARG in 1/350 with the Iwo Jim LHD, the New York LPD, the LSD Haprer's Ferry, and two Burkes and two Independence class, along with a Flight II 6881 Los Angles Class sub.

I bought an extra set of B-25s to get up to the number I have. Both Merit and Trumpeter make 1/350 scale B-25 models than come in packs of either 8 or 10. The MOdel itself had about 10-12 I believe.

Gid bless him. Is he still with us? My father was a Combat Naval officer in the PTO, commanded an LCI (690) and was with the MaUthur group coming up ultimately to the Philippines. He was on his way to help invade China when the war ended and then spent an extra year hauling Japanese citizens and soldiers back from China to Japan. He passed in 2004 and not a day goes by that I do not miss him. H was a good man, and a patriot who took his oath to the US Constitution seriously until the day he died. I am proud to be his son and hope I can be half the man he was, and raise my sons to be twice the man I am...if I do, I will have done well and will thank God for it.

Yes it is. Along with some after market detail up kits. I have an entire write up on Fine Scale Modeler about it: cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/7/t/175098.aspx Great kit.

Where are you found uss vinceness in 1/350 scale?
@JeffHead-IdahoUSA
@JeffHead-IdahoUSA 6 лет назад
The USS Vincennes, CA-44, in 1/350 Scale is available from Trumpeter Kit #05039. I have a complete review and build page for it over on the Fine Scale Modeler forum. Just go to that site and search for "USS Vincennes in 1/350 Scale by Jeff Head" or google the same thing and it should lead you to the site where I give a history of the ship and a complete explanation of how I built the model with many pictures as I did so. Ths is the site if youtube lets it stay cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/7/t/174798.aspx

Francesco Schivo I have a 1/350 scale model of another ship in that class, BB-62, USS New Jersey. It was the second Iowa class BB, after the Iowa, and was commissioned in May 1943, and then went to war in January 1944 and particpated throughout the remainder of the war. she was called on in Korear, and then in 1968 was modernized and called on to provide firs support in Vietnam. Finally, after another very significant modernization in 1982, she was called upon again for Cold War action. With this modernization, all of the Iowa class received modern sensors, the ability to land and fuel modern helicopters, new modern armament to compliment the 16" and 5" guns. This new armament consisted of four Phalanx 20mm Close-in Weapons systems (CIWS), eight Box Launchers carrying four Tomahawk land attack cruise missiles each for a total of 32 Tomahawk missiles, four quad launchers for Harpoon anti- shipping missiles for a total of sixteen of those missiles, and a flight pad supporting helicopters from the SH-60 Seahawk ASW/SAR to CH-47 transport helicopters. As stated, each vessel also received all of the modern radars, sensors, communication, computer, and defense systems to to go with it. I built her to that rendition and you can see it, after that upgrade, here on Fine Scale Modeling: cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/7/t/168790.aspx

Btw all sixteen of the B-25s were on the flight deck. How are you going to put a bomber that is bigger then the fighters when ones wings don't fold? I'm sorry if you going to talk history first learn it. BTW The way it is not the most decorated ship during ww2 that would be a BB the new jersey is the most decorated naval ship in US history. Learn your history
