Sad that by 1971 it was all over for the Doors. They played the Ed Sullivan show once but never got back on that show after Jim refused to change the Lyrics for Light My Fire. Yep he is in the group of 27 curse. I believe this song was released in 1967 same year I was born.
Jim Morrison is one of the “27 Club”. I think of all of the members of that group to be gifts with special talents given to us all to enjoy. But only for a short time. Then they’re called back home.
This song peaked @ # 67 ( not exactly sure) it was over everyone's head, they didn't know quite what to make of it. No one had ever heard anything like that b4.
And with this musical kick in the face in 1967, Jim Morrison and The Doors began a four year enigmatic musical journey of psychedelia and exploration of the darker recesses of our minds. Long Live The Lizard King!
Jim Morrison and The Doors. OMG! Absolutely one of the greatest! Morrison was pretty much a wild man and ended up getting arrested at his concerts almost every time, largely because his music and voice would mesmerize the audience and everybody just went crazy and once he actually pulled down his pants! He definitely was a great musical genius and his voice was so rough and raw! I love the Doors! And I had all their albums but I let a "friend" hold onto them while my boyfriend and I hitched around the country. When I returned home, I learned that this "friend" had stolen them! Damn it!! But please play "The End" sometime soon. I bet you will love it! ❤️
Jim Morrison is in the 27 club along with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse who are the most famous but the list is long. They all died at 27.
You have probably heard the song's hook in the movie trailer for Monster's Inc. As well as maybe in the Minion movie when they went to Villian con ? I would watch the reaction to the doors debut album and the song came out in early 1967.
They were really influenced by jazz, light my fire instrumental was a rip off of Coltrane (manzarek was a big fan). The doors blended so many genres, flamenco, bossanova, jazz, rock n roll, psycheledic, pop but at the end of the day it was so much more of the sum of the parts, the doors had and still have such an unique sound. What an incredible band
I guess you should judge older music and especially the lyrics in terms of the time it was made. With The Doors in particular, one has to understand Jim Morrison's penchant for older poets because he mostly draws on his personal poems in his lyrics. I find it particularly difficult with Morrison.
Biz! Watch 'Live@The Hollywood Bowl' 1st song+entrance [When the Music's Over], Doors at their best IMO- the original 'frontman'. *FFact- Morrison died w/an open warrant in the state of Florida, gangsta!
