So AEW has been making some very questionable decisions recently, most notably for the fact that they signed Ric Flair to a multi year deal. AEW for me personally, is starting to lose it’s identity and is starting to no longer be the alternative. We’ll talk about all that and more in todays video discussing whether or not AEW has fell off.

Think that is one of the biggest problems is TK's ego is getting in the way of delivering a good product. That whole XTwitter thing was unnecessary and was just egg in the face embarrassing. For me, everything changed when TK bought ROH. It was around that time when quality started to go down hill. Too many titles and wrestlers came into the picture leaving AEW bloated. AEW had a chance to fix this when they added collision but they keep featuring the same people, and it's very frustrating.

The absolute biggest problem that AEW has at the moment, is that the owner himself, just doesn't know when to put his head down and work to improve the product, and to turn off Twitter. If there is absolutely one thing that Tony Khan needs to take from the WWE, it's the fact that Triple H just gets on with it, and doesn't spend way too long on Twitter, having arguments with people.

For >1 year, AEW has been sitting on the hottest angle in wrestling since Montreal 1997 (i.e. Punk vs Elite) and has seemingly refused to do anything with it. Regardless of the reason, it makes Tony look like an incompetent booker and the Elite look petty and jealous. Punk isn't perfect, but he's made a lot of workers in AEW look really good (Eddie, Darby, MJF, and Ricky immediately come to mind). If you want to ask "why is AEW struggling so much?" you can start there.

Tony shifted the focus of the company from a variety show where you could follow several ongoing storylines that had something for everyone to overexposing the acts Tony likes the most at the cost of everything else. @@jamespaul6315that's exactly what a lot of us were saying but no we have these people born after the 2000s with zoomer mentality that can't fathom when two grown men fight things out with one another to settle differences. Instead they need to act like babies spread negativity online and pretty much boycott the show and of course Tony is gonna listen to online marks considering he's one himself. Even though all of his employees were starting problems with punk first apparently its punk's fault, not the company, not the other employees who go off script, go into business for themselves, and wanna put people through real glass, not the evps who were spreading rumors and act like completely unprofessional 2nd grader trolls who arent even funny or clever and hasnt been over since 2018 in the first place, not the booker who should be fixing these issues and acting like a leader and controlling his employees, no its just punk's fault. The only toxic leeches in wrestling are the fans and they're pretty much the reason why we'll never have another product like the attitude era because everyone gets so offended about everything nowadays they literally cancel and ruin everything for everybody else. Maybe if half the aew locker room and the booker didn't act like children we wouldn't need a vet like punk to put them in place and actually try to teach them how to wrestle (not do 50 flips in one match like it's fast food dopamine, it's the only pop they can get since it makes up for the lack of promo work, connecting with the crowd to sell tickets, and in general lack charisma and character work to make them stand out) I didn't remember punk needing to snap someone's leg in half by doing a reckless dangerous spot off a ladder either to get a reaction from the crowd. All of these reasons are why I'm done with aew and especially the fans who just buy into this garbage.

The first 2 years of AEW were just amazing exciting matches, debuts and moments: Moxley vs Omega, Young Bucks vs Lucha Bros, Hangman vs Danielson, Cody’s TNT Championship open challenges. CM Punk returning to wrestling after 7 years, Adam Cole debuting, Bryan Danielson return as the American Dragon, Hangman and Kenny story, Punk and MJF story. Now we have Ric Flair most likely gonna have a match and almost die, Paul Wight teaming with Jericho and Omega when he can barely walk and Tony Khan having announcements every 2 weeks that he hypes up so much and then it just be something he can tweet about on twitter

I think the shift began really when Cody Rhodes left and CM Punk’s first drama which only got worst with the second drama that took placed. First Cody has embarrassed AEW cause you see WWE making him a main event talent. Next they made waves when they brought in CM Punk and it was working for them he was their world champion then they had the drama with him and the elite and he hurt his leg and was out with a long injury. He then came back and what do they do they put him on the C show just as he was getting his footing again then the Perry drama happened and he’s fired. This was their biggest draw and Tony blew it. AEW doesn’t protect their aging talents either. Bryan Danielson has a messed up arm, Jon Moxley nearly got a broken neck against Fenix, Alex Reyonds was literally knocked out in a match and they were dragging his body around the mat which could been very dangerous for his health. AEW I believe needs new leadership. Tony Khan be a silent owner, hire someone to be your GM and i don’t mean a storyline on tv role I mean put someone in charge. Tony has shown he can’t do it.

Cody coming out at Mania two years in a row to a massive ovation goes to show that 1) limiting his creative freedom was better for his character…..2) Tony Kahn had a star that he didn’t do much with. just a few things i'd love to see form a e w in 2024. 1. smaller ppv cards. i mean look at wwe fast lane. it was a decent B level ple, had the right amount of matches, and gave each match time to breath, and tell the story it needed. when you have the 1 hour buy in with 2-4 matches crammed in, and then you put on a 3 to 4 1/2 and sometimes 5 hour ppv with 10+ matches it feels rushed. maybe do a 6 card ppv with 2 matches on the buy in. 2. please tell excaliber to SHUT UP EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. every week i watch i leave it on mute. i was enjoying Kevin and Nigel on collision, but of course tony wasn't happy, and shoves the other tony for a 3 man crew where 2 was perfect. 3. STOP ALL THE POINTLESS DISTRACTIONS. maybe enforce those table spots as a DQ finish, or JUST STOP ALL THE SILLY BULL. i want them to make it in the long run, but every week it just keeps showing this is a indie show that somehow got a tv deal. 4. please hire someone to run the show, and let tony just be the business guy. i swear if regal was the one running the show, and not tony then he would have gladly stayed a little longer instead of seeing the writing on the wall, and getting out of dodge while he could. 5. they have such a big massive roster, and yet they keep shoving the same old same old every week down our throats. i think some are as tired of orange as they were of roman during the mid to late 2010s. 6. i get blood can be a good thing when the story calls for it, but seeing it a lot from MOX just makes it feel pointless. try saving the juice for when it is called for. like during the final battle of a story. 7. personal thing here. PLEASE GET RODDY OFF THE TV. 8. i know R O H has / had a tv deal, but maybe get a new deal, and really get R O H out there. i really don't see anyone outside hardcore fans paying 10 a month to watch it online. 9. finally just stopping fixating on the wwe. if tony does'nt view them as computation then stop. focus on making your show the best it can be. if tony does consider them competition then he better up the game it he wants to play.

I have to add something to what you said in your eighth point, because I really think Tony Khan messed up big time in his acquisition of ROH. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he bought it and kept it alive, but it’s what he’s done afterwards that felt like a huge mistake. ROH should have been AEW’s version of NXT. It should have been kept separate from AEW entirely and had it’s own roster, using those who were on the ROH roster during Final Battle 2021, people in AEW who weren’t getting used very much (maybe ask 3 or 4 of the bigger names if they wanna work strictly ROH for a year, if they do great, if they don’t then no harm no foul), and anyone new Tony Khan signs has to first work ROH for six months to a year, unless they were already a big name like Ospreay or Edge. They have their own shows and PPVs on a streaming service, RU-vid, or on a TV network if you want to go that route, and their titles are kept separate from AEW. Then once a year you can do a AEW vs. ROH crossover event, where immediately afterwards you can call up several of the ROH roster to start working AEW. It’s not a perfect or even original idea but it’s better than what actually happened, TK just buys Ring of Honor and throws all those guys and the belts into the AEW mix, and you got people from AEW holding ROH titles and vice versa, and it just feels bloated and like a jumbled mess.
@EmberMcLain87

Like, I don’t even enjoy “Timeless” Toni Storm but because she is getting it so over you have to at least respect the shit out of it. I know Edge and Christian are in a similar boat because Christian is exploring the deep end of his heel character and Adam Copeland feels like an Edge who can’t call himself Edge. My biggest issue with AEW is that there’s no week to week, show to show consistency. I see Daniel Garcia on every show every week but Miro appears twice a year? The Don Callus Family was positioned as a huge faction that is sometimes on Collision sometimes on Dynamite and sometimes aren’t on for weeks. The biggest problem imo is not enough writers. You wanna play an AEW drinking game that guarantee's death? I think their decline very much comes down to TK panicking, and not liking losing. WWE is the hottest they’ve been in over 20 years, HHH massively improved creative, morale very high and they’re making more money than ever before. Since AEW’s inception, they were always the ‘babyface’ company, an alternative and TK thrived on it. Now he finds himself on the other end side of the road, and (as proven by his endless Twitter meltdowns) TK is not a very good loser, and has started making more rash and bizarre decisions to try and revert the course, but if anything he’s made it worse

I feel like AEW has two big problems they need to address... 1) They need to scale back on the amount of television that they are putting out. End Rampage. Maybe even end Collision. Focus on making Dynamite as good as it can possibly be every single week. I'm not sure how much TV that they are obligated to do every week under their TV deal but if it's more than one show they need to find some alternative to the current format because they're spreading themselves too thin filling the current TV. Maybe they can do a behind the scenes access show or something. Some alternative. 2) Focus more on character creation and development. Some fans may not realize it, some might not admit it.... but we all love wrestling because of the stories. One of AEW's hottest stars right now is Toni Storm and that's because there is an actual character there that people connect with. I know AEW wants to put on 5 star Meltzer matches but there needs to be substance behind it or fans won't remember. And I think that the two problems are connected. If you scale back TV then I think you'll see improvement in the character development because only the best is going to get on the show. For a long time fans have wanted more TV, everyone on the show, everyone having titles because "they deserve it". But WWE is proving right now that less is more. Quality over quantity.

Also, it wasn't mentioned in the video, but I wonder if the reality show making 90% of the people they focused on look like a dingus also hurt. I think the only person who came out unscathed from it reputation-wise was Adam Cole. It was right when the company was starting to get the reputation of being by & for a certain small clique instead of a general audience, and instead of fighting that to show it's indeed a professional & serious company, you got Britt mocking someone for not epidural-ing their way through terrible injuries and watered-down Being The Elite skits enforcing that AEW is just as immature & unserious-in-a-bad-way as it was starting to feel. It really did feel like Punk's assessment that he worked with "children" was correct, and everything since August has borne that out, too.

He was always bad but now he clearly lost any control and his own employees are basically puppeting him left and right to hire their friends, then their friends shills to hire their other friends too, spiraling in a long list of nonsensical hirings that bloated the roster over and over.

When Cody left, I believe it started the downfall. And I too love AEW because WWE hasn't fixed any of the problems that would compel me to watch their product again. I mean Logan Paul winning a championship and Roman is still on top while I'm here waiting for Cody to finally get his Story completed. Meanwhile, in AEW, we have a Senior Citizen who refuses to retire, The Big Slow wrestling again even though he is a broadcaster (put the guy on Rampage or something), the women's division is middling at best....Sorry Shida. I don't agree that Cody leaving is what caused the downfall. I think it was at it's best in the months following his absence because of how hot Punk and Danielson were. I think Tony's biggest problem as a booker is that He can't compensate when the unexpected happens, injuries, suspensions etc. Look at the product before Punk's first injury and then the weeks that followed. Or How the Outcasts story lost all steam when Hayter got injured. MJF's title reign has lost momentum since Cole got injured . For me the roughest patches in AEW the past few years have followed an Injury or other unplanned events ans that is something Tony really needs to fix

Tony khan is ultimate problem with aew. He’s not a good leader. He is not a good promoter and booker. He just books matches he wants to see. He was easily influence by the elite and Jericho for several years. The first 18 months the take talent evaluation and signings were just putrid. Once wwe released people and are signed some of them I thought the company would do better. He buried most of them. He pushed skinny and small guys like hook, orange cassidy, jungle boy, Danny Garcia, and wheeler yuta. And most of these guys haven’t progressed. He’s destroyed ROH. Most of the former champions are low mid card or jobbers on the main roster. Castle, lethal, and Briscoe could have helped aew but they rarely win matches. He squandered punk and danielson. Strong, cole, kingdom, and many others jokes. Joe is the only one he hasn’t book too bad but he’s disappeared a few times due to injury before this world title run.

what you said in the beginning of the video probably explains why i never understood AEW. I used to watch wrestling years ago but then i stopped for one reason or another. But then i started watching it again when pandemic hit and that's the first time i ever heard about AEW. So I gave it a shot and kept up with their show for a few months but i always just found it inferior to WWE product evven though it really wasn't good in 2020 either. But you mentioned in the beginnning the feeling AEW had in it's first few months, i missed out on that. And because of that, because i haven't been bored of WWE years prior hoping for an alternative and finally getting it, because i didn't have any hype going into it, i never found it any good. And what might be happening now is that, on top of all the problems with Tony being Tony, people's hype and feelings towards AEW faded and they start realizing all of its flaws. And the fact that WWE really stepped up their game recently definitely isn't helping

AEW is the perfect example of, if the wrestling fans on the internet run a show, the kind with opinion on everything, those who cheer for a wrestler to get over and then boo him when he gets a championship reign. And judging by how the owner of that company takes everything said on the internet so seriously, I'd say you can just connect the dots, dude's just a wrestling fan running a show, but how far can you take your fantasy booking, nah not much and it shows. As someone who ain't an AEW fan at all, I do take notice on some things. Their PPV at Wembley Stadium was a very big deal according to internet fans and seeing a few highlights from the show, it indeed looked like a big deal. I thought the signing of Edge was a big deal but why is there so many random ass teams and random ass tag matches? I don't know it's just kinda weird. But if Tony is a good business man, then he'll find a way outta this. There's good days, there's bad days. WWE was really low just a couple of years ago and everyone kept sayin "WWE is dead" like clearly it's not especially seeing how well they're doing now. Also the 90s was fuckin awful most of the decade for WWE (WWF), but they stood alive and revived themselves with the Attitude Era. Point is, there's ups and downs with every wrestling company. It's just up to Tony Khan if he wants to keep his company alive. As a pro wrestling boss and leader, he's a joke. No one respects his sissy fanboy self cuz he ain't a strong leader. Vince was a strong leader that's why he was way more respected. He just also abused his power by giving us shitty wrestling but anyways y'all should get it. I started watching AEW in mid-2021, and while I had my complaints & dislikes (like the dentist being the "pillar" of the women's division despite being mid at best), I was LOVING it. I drifted from wrestling in mid/late 99, and AEW brought me back (cuz they were chosen to honor the memory of why I drifted away from wrestling). It had everything - technical guys, goofy guys, high flyers, combos thereof... it was everything I missed when WWE had become the only easily accessible game in town. It got me back into wrestling big time, including playing catchup with what I missed in the heyday of RoH. And then this past year, they just shot themselves in the foot. A best-of-seven trios tournament that showed vividly that only one member of The Elite was any good & he's still recovering from injuries, so he's only at half-power. A focus on talent becoming weirdly sitcom-ized versions of themselves & losing whatever else they had (Hangman & his "I have anxiety" shtick, Mox bleeding every single match, etc). A women's card increasingly centered around a handful of women, and all of them have some variation of bog-standard "mean girl" for a character, not helped by the shows limiting them to one match her show. Storylines would start and then veer off wildly in less interesting directions. Other storylines would never, ever end & felt like they were continuing out of spite (see anything with the JAS). The loss of the YT shows to highlight the quirkier & lesser known talents in the ring instead of the same dozen or so people. And that's all BEFORE we get to the double whammy of anything to do with Punk (or anyone on the roster who's cool with him) and the online conduct of both the people in the company & the vocal fanbase. The past August actually gave me flashbacks to a personal incident when Britt & Saraya basically led a Twitter dogpile against an indie wrestler cuz she said her experience with filming AEW Dark wasn't great. This only spurred on MORE harassment of MORE targets, fans & wrestlers, after Punk was fired, to the point some random woman was doxxed in "defense" of Hangman (apparently his fans think someone flipping him off is a threat of violence, and his "don't do that, that makes me saaaaad" response to it is just pathetic). Tony's meltdown on Twitter, followed by a very public act of moral hypocrisy, was when a lot of others saw what a mess it was becoming as well, at least, but that doesn't make me feel good in any way. I'm back into wrestling thanks to AEW, but I won't watch them again until they learn to actually act like a professional business & not a clique of overripe 10th graders desperate for internet clout. Maybe seeing all but the most stannish of their online base object to Flair will spur this, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. At least now I can find way more indie & foreign wrestling than I ever knew existed as an alternative.

TK is the man with a plan? What plan? Look at AEW's booking, does it seem like things are well planned out? The video shows exactly how there's never a plan B for wrestlers getting injured, but we can add more. What was the plan for Wardlow after defeating MJF? Nothing, he was booked into oblivion and then vanished. What was the plan for the Bucks after they put FTR over? Nothing, they're meaningless right now. Why did Omega Vs MJF came out of nowhere, instead of months ago where the streak vs title angle could've been properly built up? Because no one thought of that untill it was too late, that's why. And don't even get me started on the entire women's division, it's just a mess. If TK was the man with a plan the booking wouldn't be so erratic and amateurish.

no doubt khan is gonna book ric flair in a match soon. the man’s had so many “retirement” matches to the point where it’s comical.

I dunno. Tonight's card is not a good one. It's almost all "one good person vs one person no one cares about."

the card does look pretty solid. mjf vs Daniel could be a good match, but i swear they need to stop with the dean malenko dance gimmick. swerve i think will be the one to dethrone mjf come 2024. joe and keith just looks good. 2 big guys who can move going at it. julia is championship bound, and red.. well good to have her back. personally i dont care for shida or tony right now. i feel they are just biting their time till jamie can come back. when she does watch her win, and then start her vs brit... you know the feud that should've probably been done long long ago before she got unfortunately injured

Again..this is how we felt about TNA wrestling when started to hit it stride..2005-2009...then we'll yall know..at the end of 2009...I don't have to say anymore...AEW is just a company that will give you good matches and PPVs..but not much else and with WWE recent signings..Of Jade and Punk...they got all the momentum going forward for the next 4 months..

I first started watching AEW on Wednesday 23 October 2023 thinking it was another WWE product or something which I was wrong and for the first time heard about a guy named Tony Khan. Now at first Tony Khan did not impress me. In fact, I was quiet embarrassed for him when he first gone out on stage (not in the ring) to take shots at a young MJF at the time (I think) back in 2020. Tony Khan's ability on the mic was enough for me to cover my face with one hand and mute or turn down the volume with the remote with the other. Over the years, has the show or shows, nowadays, gotten any better . . . no, I don't think so. AEW presents the same wrestlers time and time again. Very rarely a new wrestler is introduced to the audience and usually they get killed off very quickly and go nowhere as the show progresses. AEW's Women's Division is non-existent. And so on . . . the product speaks for itself. When a wrestling company starts promoting d**** or b***** almost daily, it's a sign of bad things to come and nothing good to look forward to in terms of storyline telling, just a bunch of ''I'm gonna . . . '' stuff . . . That's my take on AEW . . . 🤔🤔🤨🤨🙄🙄

Ric Flair signing is going to be the finger poke of doom for AEW.
