The Dragon's Dogma 2 "Drama" Is Getting CRAZY... 

The only thing that bothers me about this game are the pawns telling me, “Look, there’s a ladder!” every time I go into town

I'm old enough to remember Capcom selling the ACTUAL ENDING to Asura's Wrath as DLC.

I noticed the microtransactions as I was downloading the game and it did bug me; until I actually played the game. After 12 hours I completely forgot there were microtransactions. While I fail to understand the necessity of them, I appreciate that they don't shove them in your face everytime you pause the game or go to the menu like others do.

For anyone who has ever even remotely given DD2 like 3 hours of playtime, you know that the micro transactions are ridiculous inclusions for a $70 single player rpg, but are by no means egregious and offensively omnipresent. Buying rift credits is the dumbest thing ever when having a party of on-level pawns is so sustainable that you can keep them until they’re like 4 levels behind. So anyone who buys RC MTXs are basically less than brain dead. The bad ones might be wakestones and fast travel items. But once again, both of these items are acquirable in-game, EASILY might I add. And who wants to fast travel in a world like Vermund? It’s stunning to just walk through - I love it. Makes me feel like I’m in New Zealand for the set of lord of the rings. Magic. Still, the fact that they are purchasable is a slap in the face to those who sacrificed 70 big ones for a heavily single-player adventure. The biggest and most obvious issue is performance. Capcom needs to fix it all very quickly or risk losing even more fan support. Which is not something anyone wants - DD2 as a video game is fan-friggin’-tastic and a lot of fun.

This shit is completely blown out of proportion. There is nothing in there that’s over five dollars and none of it really matters. I had over 10 hours in the game before I even knew there was purchases. It really doesn’t affect the game. Only disappointment is the performance really wish it was 60 FPS on PS five but at least I’m not playing on PC.

The level of enjoyment this game brings beats out any criticism. Let them fix optimisation and a new game option from a title menu and we are good.

I honestly don't get how a single save games still have issues when people lose their save, something that didn't change in about 20 years. How hard is it do something like make the game create a backup or something that activates differently than the autosave. Or something, it can't be THAT hard. Seriously, how is this still a thing?!

To clarify the port crystal thing, it still isn't an issue. The game gives you free port crystals either pre placed outside certain cities or they give you at the very least 5 other ones you can place around important areas later in the game. That's about 7 the game gives you for all the places you actually need them and the place limit is 10. You'll have 3 more crystals you don't need just sitting there and even then they're useless if you don't have ferrystones. Ferrystones are the most important part as you need those to get to port crystals and you can't buy those with real money, the game isn't designed around these MTX, the mtx are made after the fact to not be so invasive because Capcom forces the devs to add them. If anything the devs saved us from having to worry about worse MTX options

I understand not flippng out over microtransactions (I mean, I am not going to buy them either), but I am not ready to say "well, they are to be expected" either.

I would understand if the micro transactions were absolutely forced down people's throats - The thing is though, i didn't even know about the micro transactions before people started whining about it. The performance thing i totally get however. It's weird though, all Resident Evil games running with REEngine run fine don't they?

What a game. Im loving it. Just dont fo into the game shop and no issues. The combat is fun. The world is fun to explore. The game is smart and interesting.

I have not been this invested in a game since Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

The port crystal MT doesn't undermine the limited fast travel system. it one gives you one additional location to travel to. and you can only place 10 total. so even if you bought it you would still have to find 9 more.

Tbh I think it's the endless performance issues in AAA games that pisses me off more then MTX lately. I'm just so over these companies pushing out crap with the mentality we can patch it later. Also, let's be clear. DD2 could've defintely used a delay to get the ridiculous cpu usage under control, but they wanted it released before the fiscal year ended.

Portcrystals don't undermine fast travel since you HAVE to get an in game only item, ferrystones, to use any of them

Just to add some more bullet points to your video, Matty: microtransactions were outlined to reviewers from what I understand before the launch of DD2 (not sure if they were in full detail), Capcom puts mtx in Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, etc. And not having multiple save slots kinda sucks, but you can change your vocation at any time, and all of those skill points transfer over. Would it be nice to have multiple saves in order to not lose any progress? Absolutely yes. And lastly, once you get to a town, you can use the ox cart to fast travel, so most of these points of contention with players, I think, is blown way out of proportion. The game itself is fucking great so far, I just wish Capcom had thought deeper about these weird decisions because they have a good one on their hands. Cheers, and thanks for the video!

really wanna get this game but i just don’t know im usually get the game and give it my own opinion kind of guy but tired of spending damn near 80 $ for a game

so far i've been having a ton of fun with dd2. i didn't notice there were microtransactions in it until i saw a bunch of videos of it on youtube. so far i've got zero crashes or glitches in the game. only gripe is that my fps tanks from 120 to 90 in vermund.

I dont think this is normal, but when I first went into the section and town where the pawns can't go, intense music started playing and it told me I needed to be stealthy, but none of the guards attacked me and I could freely wander everywhere

Im literally JUST learning this game has microtransactions and im 40 hours in. Yeah the fps is meeeh but its still playable im having a blast

I’m having a blast ! Performance sucks ! Their fast travel system is real annoying, the jankness is always annoying (as in any game ) I’m 80 hours in now and overall love it ! Capcom always have them annoying items for sale ! And it sucks ! But also if nobody had said anything I wouldn’t have looked at the items for sale !

As someone that can fortunately run this game maxed out getting 80-100FPS...this game feels like a masterpiece to me. It's been a long time since I've gotten lost in a game like this. But watching everyone else struggle to play it hurts so much, and honestly, Capcom deserves this. On one hand, they made an incredible medieval fantasy RPG Sim, on the other, most people can't fucking run it to really enjoy it anyways. The microtransactions are pretty trivial imo

On point Matty. $70 for what's essentially an unfinished product. It needed a delay. I'm sure it wouldn't have hurt Capcom.

DD2 is as good as Elden Ring.

20 hours in and just finished first quest in Vernworth. This game has met and far exceeded my expectations. My only issue is how they took away the clothing, gloves etc but that’s a minor gripe.

It isn’t the MTX in Dragon’s Dogma 2 that’s causing outrage, it’s the deception. Capcom was wrong to keep it a secret until launch.

Love this game so far. When I was a kid I had the OG D&D boxed set. It was all about gearing up in town and planning your adventure and this feels like that in video game form. I also grew up in the mountains, and exploring the trails in this game is as real a feeling an environment as a game has ever done. Haven’t looked at the DLC once don’t care. Performance issues are well over blown this is a finished game.

I mean no option to start a new game in a single player game is by far the craziest thing I have ever seen.

I’m having fun with the game and my pc runs it in 4k just fine. Only when you enter a city does it seem to frame drop for me. Really unfortunate it’s getting review bombed.

Ive never enjoyed combat in a game so much before. Last time I truly enjoyed combat was back in Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning (which is how I even found your channel Matty) I hope a modder can make a Soulslike difficulty mode for DD2

My problem with the poor performance is that so many reviewers basically ignored it while strongly recommending the game. Maybe they had 4090s, but there’s sections that run like total dog poo on my new 4070 super + 14700K

i still think the drama with the ferrystones was extreme because in 20 hours i have found 8 ferrystones just by exploring and 2 i got them from side quest i havent even buy them on the in game stores hahaha they are rare but 10 times more common than the first game

Meh, I wouldn't say that the microtransactions undermine the game in any meaningful way. Even the portcrystal doesn't undermine much. You get about 5-7 playing through the game once, and you still have to travel in order to get to the place to set down the crystal in the first place. So having one in the beginning doesn't effect much, since you're traveling to different places anyway, and getting back to a major city, it would already have its own crystal. So you wouldn't need to put one down. And it still costs ferrystones for every teleport. Also, apparently, reviewers knew that microtransactions would be in the game. At least, they SHOULD know, since apparently the copies they got came with notes from the publisher that did say that there would be microtransactions. But nobody bothered to read it. That would be the reviews fault for "surprise microtransactions".

Dragon’s Dogma 2 actually took Dark Arisen’s place as my favorite game of all time. I’m absolutely loving it. I get people complaining about performance, but the MTX complaints are overblown. I didn’t see the same outrage with game of the year, and Overwhelmingly Positive Resident Evil 4 Remake.

PSA: Dragons Dogma 2 deletes your manual save if you happen to click "load from last inn rest". Yes, I'm one of the many people that lost hours of progress because of this lame feature. They could at least let us keep the manual save least until we overwrite it. Then I would have just loaded in and out again to my manual save and no harm would have been done. Geez... 10+ hours of progress lost. I do not recommend this game.

4:38 sure, if it's a free to play game but in games where your paying full price being £70 upwards of £100 (special versions) there's no excuse no matter how minor

The "micro transactions " are simply the difference between getting the Deluxe version or Standard edition, $10 difference on Steam. It is BLOWN WAY OUT of proportion. Not like it really change the gaming experience from my perspective. I was very lucky, I pre-ordered the deluxe game and haven't had any issues (perhaps I benefited from the updates without realizing it). But, other than their design with the 'Save file format' I am loving this game and the experience, definitely wish it gave at least 3 save files.

I hope these issues don’t deter anyone to get the game. It’s fantastic (performance issues aside)

A "time saver" is not having a time wasting fast travel system. I get it, they want us to engage with the environment. But with times quests, and it literally taking an hour to run to a new area with all the fights and distance, it made me NOT want to engage with the environment. Also, microtransactions are unforgivable in a single player game for any reason. Never letting up on that, and saying they are "Expected" in AAA games is no excuse. Plenty of AAA games release WITHOUT microtransactions and perform AMAZINGLY!

Dragon Dogma 2 must be selling well, cause i can’t even get a physical copy, unless i pre order it

I'm honestly having more fun playing dragons dogma 2 than I have with a game in a long time. And the player count keeps rising to reflect this. It's a good game. The all time peak got higher than it was even on launch The framerate needs fixing but deep down it is an extremely fun game especially the exploration and combat. It can be downright addicting

The game has my big 3 no-no's of gaming. Performance issues, egregious mtx and $70. I'm sure I'll like the game (on a deep sale or Gamepass) but this is absolutely unforgivable. Accept this and whats next?

The problem with “time savers” is the incentive it creates for developers to induce “time wasters” that you need to pay to get rid of.

Ppl complaining about something you dont have to buy, I've been playing the game and not once did i feel like i have to buy anything to enjoy the game. this is one of those case ppl have to get mad at something that isnt even a big deal. the only real problem is the perfomance and no new game.

Great game, and performance on pc and consoles needs fixing but the micro transactions were just a dumb move by Capcom Execs…but cudos to the core devs for making a fun time.

TLDR: There are many issues in the industry that inflate the cost of development massively. Microtransactions are a way for these games companies to offload the cost of their negligence and incompetence onto the consumer. Rather than them fixing the thing that is their literal job to fix. There are no excuses for microtransactions. And given the amount of other factors that could be tackled to reduce cost they are never necessary. And gamers who buy into or defend these practices are also responsible. The idea that some kind of extra monetization in games may be a necessary evil is just not true. Games are extremely expensive because of massive waste and inefficiency. The truth is that the amount of great devs is massively overshadowed by incompetent devs, incompetent management and incompetent executives. If the industry wants to make more money the best way is to spend less by investing in better efficiency and long term gain. e.g stop firing tons of seasoned devs only to replace them with new inexperienced ones, only to need to do the same again. Maybe let the devs actually do their job, looking at you executives. Basically stop hiring a plumber and then tell him how to do the plumbing because you are paying him so you need to protect your investment by telling the expert how to do it even though you have no expertise. Maybe stop letting executives give themselves massive bonuses every year whilst the devs doing the most work don't get better pay and instead get massive crunch. Maybe you could put that company money into the business by hiring better devs or better training etc etc etc. There are countless ways to fix the financial issues the games industry is struggling with. Microtransactions and other anti consumer predatory monetization methods are not one of them, and are not necessary. The only reason they keep happening is because gamers keep buying. We have to stop if we want the industry as a whole to improve. As long as gamers make microtransactions and the like easier than actually fixing the inefficiency in the industry nothing will change and nobody wins.

I hope they patch the framerate issue in Not-Soren. That’s the biggest pain point for me, the 3600 + 3070 runs it great outside the city but it’s a performance issue with all CPUs in it.

The microtransactions Drama is just beyond over exaggeration In my opinion, just ignore them and play The Game simple as that. It's not like they're gonna go away. You could buy one port crystal. One port crystal out of the 8 you get in the game. you have to use ferry stones to use it. Its not pay win I just don't understand why people online are spreading false information on Twitter. when you use the port crystal, you gotta put it where you want it. So you gotta walk to that location.then place it down so you could go back to that location Whenever you want. you have to use a ferry Stone That you can't buy with real money.. I had people online arguing with me that you can buy ferry stones In the store yet you can't 😂😂

And I think reviewers who knew about them but didn’t say anything is kinda what led to them being attacked. It felt like everyone knew about it except the actual consumer.

Only thing i wish this game (and all adventure games that rely on armors to give you substantial stat boosts) had was a transmog system for gear like Diablo has.

The microtransactions are for players like me. I wake up at 4 am. Leave no later than 5 am, work all day, and get home 5pm-6pm Mon-Fri. So I may play 1, maybe 2 hrs a night and a handful of hours on weekend.

I can see this trend of review bombing unironcally create a whole new problem where we as "gamers" can't even trust our own "user scores" in websites like Metacritic cause we're so emotionally fragile and quick to react. Leaving average gamers to grow distrusting of their own community and rebound to being more open to critic reviews instead.

I think the main problem with the game performance people experience is how people build their PC. Most people try to save money on the CPU to prioritize the most expensive GPU they can afford. The problem with that is that advanced NPC AI needs a good performance CPU to run. So when a game comes along that demands allot of the CPU that will reduce the performance of the GPU as the CPU is master and the GPU is slave... meaning the OS prioritize the CPU and then calculate the instructions it get from the GPU.

I wouldn’t really mind if Capcom let ppl buy xp or weapons like Ubi does with real money, the issue a lot of ppl have with the current microtransactions in DD2 is it makes you wonder if they did any tuning of drop rates to push you into spending real money.

Capcom would have made twice/three as much in sales if they released the game at 60 FPS with no microtransactions. Larian and BG3 just showed that you can still profit without nickel and diming the consumer. Capcom went a very typical route. This is Capcoms Battlefront 2, LOTR Shadow of War.

I feel this game has more than performance issues tho. Like lack of enemy variety, the world being a big corridor rather than an open world to explore, strange chocies in vocation system compared to 1st game, Elfs, in promo videos, they made them a bigger deal than they are in the actual game. The economy of this game is nuts, 10k for a haircut, and many more small but impactful things.

I said it in another RU-vid video Like this. Asking for multiple save files in a dragon's dogma Specifically Is like asking for an easy mode in a dark souls game By from software. Dragon dogma Brings a different take to the open world RPG model that you guys might be comfortable with nowadays here in the West. No free fast travel. Night time is more dangerous. No compass or a main character constantly talking to themselves To handhold the player to objectives. One save file per difficulty mode. Etc. having a start new game option was In the first one but it override your save of whatever Game mode of arisen character you were playing last. Dragon's dogma 1 had 3 game modes in the dark arisen version of the game. Normal mode hard mode. Speedrun mode. Each with their individual one save file. I think a lot of new people are coming to dragon's dogma 2 for the first time and expecting all of these quality of life Options that your typical open world Game has here in the West. Oh and some RU-vidrs who claimed to have played the first one and loved it somehow hate that there are no multiple save files in the second game and no free fast travel. Etc. Smh.

I thought all the heat on creators came from multiple of them saying they knew the micros were there, they chose not to mention it

developing a game is more expensive, but also there's more people playing video games that back in 90s 🥴

Everything relating to "performance issues" Ive seen has absolutely confused me. Im not running a super computer, a 2070 Super, 16GB of RAM, and a Ryzen 7 3700X and the game has been running beautifully and have yet to have ANY frame issues. On the note of the transactions, I see where some people would be upset but they (the transactions) can be absolutely ignored. Ive found every single item except the Heartfelt Medallion before the end of the first act. Maybe Im just too oblivious to understand why so many people are upset.
