Hey Papa Roanoke Funny story for you but 1 Of your videos saved a person I know from assault after I pointed her to your video "The BODY STEALING Alien Parasite" Stay strapped or get clapped also par tans to information sometimes
I will say that the cow tipping kids were the smartest horror movie intro characters I have ever seen. They didn't sit around to see what it was, they took off like smart people.
They still tried cow tipping... Something farmers and country folk MADE UP to get the stupid city kids killed. Literally no one who thinks for five seconds would ever attempt this, because cows sleep laying down ... And.... They certainly wouldn't fall over if scared lol. The cow tipping makes them NO better then the typical teenagers in movies who follow the creepy sounds.

Farmer here, man you have no idea how nice it is to hear this stuff once in a while. It's a ruthless, thankless job so I really appreciate the thanks. And as far as the movie goes, no, we generally don't have any obligation to sell to anyone in particular, except maybe if you're part of a cooperative but even then as far as I know you can still sell elsewhere, it's just that they guarantee a sale if you go to them. Anyway, love your videos, and hi from France!
Yeah my Pa sold to local butchers for years until Walmart ran em out of business. We tried to get good prices from them but they never wanted to match near what we got from the locals. Now that he’s passed, I’ve had to sell off what remained of the Hefers and pigs to anyone who’d take them for more than I could get butchering them.
@@IntrusiveThoughts838 you’re also forgetting Australia too. It’s a wonder sharks don’t die from alcohol poisoning from eating their surfers. (It’s a joke, but just in case anyone were to say ☝️🤓 “um ackshully”. XD )
Two things I wanna address. Firstly, cow tipping isn't really a thing. Anyone who says that they've gone cow tipping is more than likely lying because there is a myth that cows sleep standing up when in actuality they lay down to sleep the same as any other animal. And secondly, thanks for showing us farmers some love Roanoke. I grew up a cattle farmer and it's nice to finally get a shout-out for what we did.
My uncle has a cow name Tessa and sometimes she'd accidentally fall asleep while standing (but not for a long time) and would inadvertently tip herself. Also, the only time we had to "tip" her over is when we had to get her onto her back due to a twisted stomach.
Also love the fact that you completely didn't mention the fact that cows, are in fact, really, *really* fucking heavy, and can be ornery to boot. Bulls aren't the only ones with anger issues, the only reason you don't hear about people being trampled to death by cows is cause it's embarrassing (realistically though, they're generally chill animals and all that weight keeps them from doing much outside of a light trot. In fact, cows falling over on their own accidentally usually requires help from others and a tractor to get 'em up again.)
This! I'm so surprised by how many people think that cows actually sleep standing up. Literally every land animal sleeps laying down, why would cows be the exception?
On one hand, the idea of parasites big enough to have backbones scares me. On the other hand, the parasites in this movie look like giant, very angry blankets, and they make me grin whenever I see them in the video. Also you do make a good point about genetic modification having some unforeseen effects on other species, guess this is why extensive tests need to be done first.
Funny story about biohazard stuff in the mail. Back when bovine spongiform encephalopathy was new one of my professors was working on creating a lab test for the prions to identify cows with BSE. Long story short they started a PR campaign to spread awareness to make farmers start testing cows for BSE, they made plushy cows with an anti BSE picture on it. And shipped it to an airport where it said BSE cows as the label. The entire airport got shutdown 😂. They brought in a hazmat team and opened the case to find plushies.
I confronted a Liver Eating Parasite once. I said G0ddamnlt parasite, whadda u want from me. The parasite looked at me and said, "I need about tree-fiddy." Well, it was about that time that I realized that this was no parasite, but was just Roanoke Gaming looking for donations to make more RU-vid videos.
Pathologists do autopsies! Its funny to me because it's usually the one small part of our job that people associate with us. Could have also been a Diener (autopsy tech) or a PA. they often help with the eviscerations and cleanup. Also, thanks to you I finally looked up what Diener means and it comes from German Leichendiener which is literally Corpse Servant. Metal A. F.
I love this channel. Dude really dives in to the biology of the baddies in cool movies. I’ve thought about the same thing every time I watch a monster horror movie
Seriously, channels like this act as a good gateway for x-horrors, most never got into these movements except for slender and scp- but there has always been a rich history of cryptic and fictional monsters with unique and notable features that we can learn from
Hey Roanoke have you ever thought of talking about the monster from the movie Leviathan? It talks about some people going to the ocean trench and fighting a monster similar to John Carpenter's the Thing! The monster kinda looks like a mix of an angler fish, barracuda, and a human! There's also another horror movie that's something similar to the Thing, it's called harbinger down.
Hey Roanoke. Idk if you will ever see this, but just wanted to say that i love your videos, and that you have inspired me to look more into the field of Biology as a possible carrier. You are a great teacher of Biology and quite funny as well. Hope nothing but the best for ya :)
@vincentadultman6226 yeah life on Mars, Venus and a couple of moons out there already are hypothesized so someone needs to study it when we get it so gonna get ahead of the curve
I remember seeing this movie as a kid on SciFI channel when they actually showed really good horror movies. This gave me a paranoia on eating meat for like two weeks and got over it. It gives me a good laugh but the plot of the movie is unique compared to other movies
Not off the top of my head, all i know that the scary movies they had shown at the time aren't like the ones they show on the current SYFY which is what it branded as now. The ones they show on the channel are mostly CGI and horridly done. @@clockworks360
Brother! I knew I had a reason I kept my subscription up for your channel! Not only are you hilarious, you are also properly accurate and interesting to watch. Thank you for FINALLY saying the truth about "detox" teas and such, they are a damn scam!
Always remember, you can only shock asystole *flat line * in movies. In real life, it'll be a real bummer. Unless you really hate the patient, the hospital, and everyone in the room.
I learn a lot of unexpected things from this channel while getting a good laugh. Whatever you're going through, please know you're making life bright and funny for someone else out there with love for science as much as fiction.
Is it wierd that i sort of treat this channel like a tv series but before reruns? Like, i have no idea if these videos are going to get taken down and edited, so i feel compelled to watch them as soon as i can
Ok.. Since you mentioned it.. I almost died from diverticulitis. I was very lucky stuff did not end up outside of my intestine in the first place especially with how large of an area that was ripped open.. I had been dealing with the pain for over a week when I finally went in.. I was barely able to move but I did move around.. At first I was taken to the doctors office.. And the lady at the reception desk immediately yelled at my brother ( who was my legal guardian ) to take me to the hospital. I did not even make it into the building because she could see me slowly trying to move to the door. ( The receptionist had a good view of the entrance and the entrance had a glass area all around so you could see in-out of the front area. When I got to the hospital, I walked in, and it took some time before I was seen.. A bit before I was seen though my brother's friend who took us there asked for a wheel chair for me because he was worried about how hard it was for me to move. ( Keep in mind. I had been, according to other people that seen me and have told me.. Looked like a walking corpse.. They said I looked like someone who was dead skin wise.. Something that was.. Yea not fun. ) It took some time before I was scanned and given medication to help with the pain.. But yea.. Some of the worst pain I have ever felt. The first surgery caused me to lose several feet of intestine, a small portion of my stomach, a small portion of my liver, and something else that I can not remember right now.. I ended up having a second surgery to take back out the stoma that I had to live with for about a year. During said second surgery they took care of a strangulated hernia that might or might not have been there beforehand. ( Something that also had some rot to it but it was not bad enough for another stoma requirement thankfully. ) I have since had several hernias as the parasite that did the damage to my body has weakened a LOT of things.. My intestine for example is as of a 80 year old's intestine.. and this was back in 2011.. So yea.. Parasites can be nasty especially if they go unchecked.. The parasites I had was finally dead/gone by said point but it did a lot of damage to my system... ( They never found out or at least never told me what kind of parasite I had. )
Roanoke, the new vet Eli is played by Vincent Ventresca, who also played a convict/test experiment on the show, Invisible Man, who has an experimental gland surgically implanted in this brain which secretes a hormone that turns the host invisible. You should do a review on the show.
I've seen some of the movies you cover but not all of them... this falls into the latter category. I really enjoy the depth of your channel, you always inject so much humour and enthusiasm. I follow a couple of other content creators who add other dimensions to characters and creatures using real-world biology and psychology. Although everyone following you will appreciate movies, adding that extra depth allows people to appreciate them so much more. Your explanations are also very accessible.
Oh man, it's quite a blast from the past watching you cover this movie. I was watching your episode on the thaw a while back and the parasite theme of it reminds me of an obscure b grade horror movie i saw a long time ago that was also about parasites. I forgot the name of the movie and i could only vaguely recall some of the details of the movie but i remember it had giant parasites that ruptured out of animals. Flash forward to today and as i was watching the video i can't help but feel the plot evoking some sense of familiarity until i realized this movie is _that_ movie i saw way back in the past. I never thought some day you were going to literally make a video about this old memory of mine but i'm pleasantly suprised. Thanks for the video and the nostalgia my man, your content has been one of the few sources of joy i have on this site 👍
Dudeeeee I had the same thing with dead meat an albeit a more popular horror series but still b grade I'd say I remember watching a scene of this one character getting split in two and the baddies like ate a chunk from her then literally years later I watch his series and I connect the dots it's wild man
What i love the most about this video is how you took time to explain how the concept of the movie ties to real life with the whole parasite explanation. Loved it!
A quick explanation to why farmers would be using feed that's bad for their cows. This system they have of "we give you feed, you sell us back the cows" is actually incredibly common in farming both in flora and fauna farming. It sounds like a good deal but the problem is exclusivity. During an amount of time in a contract you MUST get feed from them and you MUST sell to them. This is actually a bigger problem in plant farming because you can be in violation of a contract you don't even know about because your neighbor has a contract and because a few seeds ended up on your property (which happens) your whole farm is at risk because you just broke trademark law and now you have a choice. Sign the contract yourself or give up the farm to someone who will
With your confusion with the fertilizer truck, generally for plotlines if you tell the audience a plan you have to have something go wrong. If you don’t tell the audience the plan, you can do whatever you want.
Anglerfish Facts! In most species, a wide mouth extends all around the anterior circumference of the head, and bands of inwardly inclined teeth line both jaws. The teeth can be depressed so as to offer no impediment to an object gliding towards the stomach, but prevent its escape from the mouth.[25] The anglerfish is able to distend both its jaw and its stomach, since its bones are thin and flexible, to enormous size, allowing it to swallow prey up to twice as large as its entire body.
Hey Roanoke. I hope you see this comment and can answer this question in your next video. Do you consider Finding Nemo a horror movie since there is that one scene with the Anglerfish chasing Dory and Marlin?
Halfway through a nightmare month of work, doing 6 10s til February. Lookin forward to spending part of my day off listening to the man himself while I cook. Thanks much Roanoke, wishing you good luck and reliable machinery
There's a webcomic called "freefall" set on a colony world in the process of being terraformed (with a lot of realistic science applied to the setting) one of the main characters is a vet, but as there are very few animals on the planet his job involves sending the planet with microbes and parasites for the very reason stated in the beginning of the video. At one point her quips he's single because it's hard to date when you tell people you have tapeworms (referring to his lab not his body)
I doubt you’ll see this but man… you’re the best. You brought back my wanting to go into the med field and to med school. Not to mention, without these videos I doubt I’d still have the wanting to learn more and more. You make learning fun. Also, I partially agree on detox stuff. Physically it doesn’t do much but make you slightly dehydrated which help make you more hydrated making you actually detox but it does help in a psychiatric sense… stuff is weird and people are dumb lol
This is one of those movies from my childhood where I’d sit down and watch it on ScyFy one Saturday night with my dad. Only ever saw it once, during the time ScyFy had a new movie every Saturday night, but it’s one of those weird core memories we all have as kids where, for some reason, you vaguely remember something, but not enough to explain it well enough to find it again. It wasn’t even special to me, just one of those things you just remember for some reason. I never thought I’d learn the name of this random movie whose scenes occasionally invade my thoughts. It’s a little surreal to be honest. Good video as always, and thank you for helping cross out one of those things that kept me frustrated as I tried to remember the name.
I love this channel so much! I was wondering though if there was a specific place that we can ask for movies to be covered. I've been trying to get more people to watch a movie called Indigenous and their "chupacabra". The creature effects are so good for a lower budget movie.
I work for a meat department and we have certain tags for each peice of meat. Also we always wash hands when moving from different meats like beef and chicken.
Watching this on my second day in hospital with an unknown infection in both ancles, waiting for a doctor to come tomorrow, thanks for keeping me sane and entertained
14:10- losing my mind at the short detox rant because this is exactly what my dad says every time he hears about/sees detoxing. He gets so pressed about it
The genetic manipulation of cows reminds me of the movie Isolation (2005), which deals with unexpected deadly side effects of DNA experiments on cows. Might make for a good review down the line.
at 27:33 . look the cow in the back has a cactus stuck on it's belly . look at the front cow's right ear and then move your eyes a bit towards the right.
Roanoke’s limitless hatred for angler fish is hilarious to me because they’re one of my favorite deep sea animals. It’s the dolphins that freak me out. Would much rather hang out with an angler fish than a pod of bored orcas.
If it was just the science dissection, I probably wouldn't stick around, but it's the humor and frank way of putting things in combination with the science that makes me stick around. I'm not gonna lie, usually the science is beyond me and I have hard time grasping what it actually means, but you manage to explain it in terms that make sense to me, even if I don't actually know what it means. The channel fascinated and entertains me through your delivery as much as the actual content, so for whatever it's worth, I'm here for it.
Ladies and gentlemen I think I speak for everyone when I say yeah parasites suck but like Dr Roanoke said sadly we can't live without them which again suck.😂
great review! I hadnt heard of this and now really want to watch it. Im a "bit old" and this also has the vibe of a great old movie from 1966 'the island of terror'.
Unrelated to the video but those weird lines at the top right of the video whenever it’s a scene from the movie made me think I had broke my phone and I almost had a heart attack 😋
Thank you, Roanoke! Saw this movie when I was a kid and scared the crap out of me. Always remembered the weird blood sucking parasite movie, but I could never figure out what it was called! I'll let you know how my nightmares change now that things I've repressed are just flooding back 👌
Man one thing i hate about your vids is that top left corner i dropped my phone picked it up and seen the broken screen lol scared the hell out of me lol. Keep up the good work mate. :) Love your vids
I had to pause the video and come down to the comments to say Roanoke is on point with his jokes. Always wear a rain jacket, and a toothpick in a meth lab. That shit got me good.
Been moons since I've watched the film, and only saw it the once, but I thought it was mentioned in the film that the ranchers in fact COULDN'T sell to anywhere else, the feed company bought the cattle as calves and were basically paying the ranchers to raise them to market weight.
We really need a Roanoke bingo card: "Stay strapped or get clapped", "Humanity number one, baby", "Concern about antibiotics", "Rabies", "Prions" and as a bonus, bragging about his car.
