Or maybe even seizures triggering a hulk out mode where you eat someone alive. The point is, an event, has a cause. In today's episode, we discuss the cause of this actual disease, how it is induced and what it does to a person!

A quick side note on that outbreak of Plague in Madagascar: the plague had infected the lungs of people, and had shifted from the Bubonic form of Plague into the Pneumonic form, meaning it was not only airborne, but it was also much more lethal. If people were not treated early, they could pass within 18 to 24 hours.

That shrunken testicles comment was actually a note from the coroner's notes on his body. I believe that the quote was "His singular testicule was blackened and shrunken to the size of a chickpea", and i also recall a quote something along the lines of "there was barely an ounce of blood within his body" Edit: Also, 6' 4" and double bone density is a terrible combination in reality. @DeltafangEX
@DeltafangEX 9 месяцев назад
@@bellatrix8247Let's be honest, most countries don't go into detail about every single war that's ever happened until college-level courses (if ever). What may be world-changing for one culture will obviously not get the same reaction from another if their interests aren't immediately involved and/or there was some form of beneficial inheritance on their part. Best example I can give is that everyone remembers the French Revolution - since most of the western world is a beneficiary of its ideas. Meanwhile places like China were under perpetual cycles of unifying and breaking apart until relatively recently, but you don't expect some random middle schooler in Romania to know about Qin Shi Huang, do you? Would you even expect them to put it in their textbooks outside of a cursory mention? Would you even expect someone who is not in a college course, not a historian, or not even remotely tangentially interested in the subject to even remember that? For the rest of their life? But America is more than its military industrial complex and its citizens are more than random repositories of knowledge for all global goings-on. Expecting any random cabbie, hair dresser, lumberjack, oil rig diver, or professional underwater basket weaver to be able to recount the events leading up to or following say the Gulf War or the Cuban Missile Crisis is simply ludicrous (especially when if have no horse in that particular race: nationality, creed, or otherwise) - and America was directly involved in those. We could all do with learning a bit more about other cultures' experiences, I think...but it is both a purposeful misunderstanding and a gross overestimation of human nature, ability, and attention span to expect so much from the average person. Having access to the internet, libraries, and global news won't change that those particular aspects of the average person have always been quite limited and will be for the foreseeable future - maybe up until we all have cyber sub-brains with perfect memory. And that still won't account for the people who simply don't care, don't have time to care, or perceive that they don't have time to care. I do see the logic of your argument though - if America insists on involving itself in nearly every modern war, then we might as well learn about every modern war 😅. Nonetheless, it isn't an American-specific issue. Any of what I said above will apply to any country's denizens - even the countries who consistently pump out the most PHD-level historians per capita.

100% agree on Britney Spears, she became a national star and sex symbol at a fairly young age, but her family was controlling and dysfunctional which left her being pulled in many directions until she snapped. Thankfully, she's recovered, put her toxic family on blast so the public knows exactly who to blame for her suffering, and she's a fantastic mother of two who appears to have successfully broken the heavy chain of familial abuse, a feat that many fail.

@@gothafloxacin Holy cow! (Sorry) I actually didn't believe you when you said prion because I thought I would have remembered that with all the woo-woo around prions (especially back then) but you're absolutely right! How bizarre! Thank you! Googling it I discovered DT Max recently wrote a thorough history titled "The family that couldn't sleep." If anyone's interested that details 200 years of this family and disease. I just bought it. Due to ethical and moral constraints info on sleep deprivation is sparse and rarely of good enough quality to overcome scientific scrutiny. Meanwhile this family has heroically volunteered their final months and even their anatomy to help us better understand sleep deprivation, prions and a bazillion other things. Anyone interested: Prions are super bizarre because they are not alive, simply malformed proteins. Yet they have many characteristics of being alive and acting similar to a virus such as a desire to replicate and they do so without nucleic acid. (Big deal!) They are also nigh invulnerable and simply cannot be destroyed except by contact with the strongest bleach. No cure except annihilation of the host. Though it should be stated that there is still a lot of studies being done and debate to be had over prions and their actual impact because they are so bizarre structurally we haven't really found the smoking gun explaining how they do what they do and why. One hot topic is if they have some faux nucleic acid facilitating replication that we haven't discovered yet that could revolutionize microbiology if true. The biggest question though is whether they are a result of the disease or if they ARE the disease. Though pop culture and a solid chunk of biologist have shifted to the latter camp. I'm a shrink not a neurologist or infectious disease so am absolutely no expert on prions so you should definitely listen to someone who is if any of my information conflicts assume I misremembered or are just flat out wrong. Maybe even give that book a read. Last (worst) fact: while the families exposure is obviously genetic the strange biology of the prion means that (while extremely rare) this disease could and has spontaneously developed in the brains of various humans worldwide with verified cases in USA, despite very limited opportunities of exposure. Sleep tight!

Hey Roanoke! I think the war Talon’s mother mentioned her brother serving in, could be one of a few wars. The first one would’ve been the Romanian Revolution of 1989, with the others being the Gulf War in the 90s, War in Afghan and Iraq War in the early 2000s. It would make sense as Talon’s mother looks to be in her mid 50s, which her brother would’ve been around that age as well, if not older. This means he could’ve partaken in any one of those wars and died just before or right after his nephews birth.

Also wanna add about the seizures where you zone out and don't move there known as voiding seizures. My wife has them all the time and have had Neurologist confirm there called voiding seizures.

They're absence seizures. I've never heard them referred to as voiding seizures. I'm sorry y'all are dealing with that though.

@quinn2014 absence and voiding are The same thing, different saying. The way my wife and the neurologist described it, lights are on, nobody's home and your staring off into space like your zoned out. Its still a seizure, without the shakes. My wife had one badly once and was thrown back into a memory lapse. They went from 35 to 17, in an instant

Someone who had seizures in their sleep their whole life and never knew here It took until I had a grand mal in public for us to realize I was epileptic. Every time I have a seizure I have no memory of it and it even cuts off leading up to it. For example, the one I had in public the last I remember was walking up to join my circle of friends in conversation then the next thing I knew I woke up in the back of an ambulance, passed out again, then woke up later in the hospital. According to my friends I was just standing there zoned out for a few minutes before the actual seizure. After the diagnosis we also learned that in the mornings when I woke up with a migraine and felt like I just ran a marathon/got hit by a train it was actually me having a tonic clonic. The muscle spasms actually take quite a lot out of you. I’ve also had to start sleeping with big socks on because I sliced open the back of my leg leaving a nasty scar one night. TLDR epilepsy sucks and you don’t realize how many flashing lights are out there until you have it

My cousin suffers with seizures from a traumatic brain injury and i help her out. (i don't want to say caretaker because she is almost 100% independent) especially around stressful times. She spends about 2 weeks with me around the holidays. Sometimes when she comes out of a seizure she is so mean and nasty. She will say such horrible things. She is normally a very sweet and kind person. Their are times when she will just start laughing uncontrollably and i know its time to get her to a quiet dark room because she is about to have a seizure. Ive been helping her for over 20 years and i have been through some hard times with her but i respect her more than almost anyone because she still walks around with a great attitude and a smile on her face. I love you Robyn!! You introduced me to this channel so you just might see this!

Wer is such a good movie, glad it's getting the attention it deserves. I remember watching it years back (along with Infliction), and wondered why no one was talking about them. Better late than never. Also, the anglerfish hate in the last couple of vids makes me think that you just recently remembered they existed and now have to deal with it lol. They are funky little dudes.

@Loom_Gloom Actually, I think I remember seeing or reading something about the reason why the move to more scientific explanations is because of there being less people like you, who's suspension of disbelief works off that criteria. Average person is more likely to wave away inconsistensies about something grounded in reality, rather than something that is supernatural in a setting that isn't suppose to have supernatural elements. My guess for this would be the good ole "it's just some natural that we don't understand yet or have a false understanding of how things works".

I've been able to handle low blood from diabetes my whole life, as I've gotten older I've started having seizures when it drops too low. Recently accidentally attacked a paramedic when coming out of a seizure before I was completely conscious. I'd never known they could cause aggression until now. This actually helped me feel a little less bad about it. I guess I'd freaked him out, I'd apologized after reaching the hospital but it had scared me to think I could attack someone while unaware.

Weirdly enough, I'm actually more terrified of the viperfish/dragonfish despite their diminutive size. They're basically what would happen if you crossed an eel with an angler fish, hence why they look like vipers. And aside from anything deep sea because all of that shit inherently triggers me thalassophobia, my actual two biggest ocean fears are giant squid (which I know is still almost entirely deep sea) and the giant oarfish, which a close runner-up being the vampire squid. And this is only discounting all freshwater things because the Northern Snakehead is an affront to God and the natural order.

Also I like how the whole thing is implied to be a "could have avoided this plot;" if Talon's dad hadn't been murdered his mom probably would've been more motivated to keep him in that handy-dandy containment room in the basement. Just sayin'.

The "zoning out" seizures you mentioned are ones I actually have!! They are known as petit mal/absence seizures (the ones with spasms are known as grand mal). I alternate between not knowing it happened at all and being vaguely aware of a "black space" in my memory, and your brain tends to fill in the gaps to explain the empty space. If I'm having a conversation and have a seizure my brain mistakenly tells me that the conversation ended, so I'll be confused at times if someone prompts me to continue what I was talking about. My family can tell when they're happening because I've had them since childhood. For me flashing lights aren't a trigger, but being sleep deprived makes them more likely to occur. In my early neurology tests to actually diagnose the seizures they tried to induce a seizure to monitor my brain activity, and had me close my eyes while they did the flashing lights (so no idea why they had the guy keep his eyes open here, that would be blinding and unpleasant). They also had me take deep breaths really fast which triggered a seizure. I'm on medication for it these days which does help, but the medication isn't a perfect solution because it's less effective if I get sick

1st off Angler fish with feet. 2ndly Is it possible that Talan was also infected before completing puberty as well, resulting in a combination of his genetic disease and the "were" infection to change his looks? So unlike Gavin who was infected in adulthood, Talan would continue to "grow" as he completed human puberty and extended into wer puberty

LRP5. I remember hearing that brought up after my L4/L5 spinal fusion and ankle reconstruction. During both surgeries, my bones apparently broke multiple self tapping screws and even a couple drill bits trying to make pilot holes. The Lt. Col. doing my fusion stopped and called it good after finally getting 1 out of 4 screws in for a support plate and for my ankle, the Colonel in charge decided to use bone glue for the bracket after burning out the drill he was using. Fortunately, the VA has it in my records because I was told that it may eventually cause blindness and hearing loss (more so than my tinnitus) later in life.
