Esso fuel refinery in Southampton. Security tell me the boss is on the way, the boss is not very nice at first and stalks me for a while. Due to high wind the drone was difficult and limited.
Cop looks like a young fella fresh out of school but with the mannerism, decorum, informative, presentation, neutral speaking tone and overall professionalism with just that one interaction. His youthful appearance aside, his handling was like a seasoned pro. He'll go a long way.
@@S.TradesDon't tard all woth the same brush m8, they are good law abiding and use reasonable opinion on the spot which they are semi... allowed to do
Great interaction with the police officer. Did the basic research before hand which is a good thing to hear, especially with him being quite young! Shame all the interactions on this video weren't like that!
If they don't want drones flying, why don't they prove why to the CAA, who if they have a safety issue, would create a no fly zone. You auditors accept those zones so the refinery wouldn't have a problem.
😅I can imagine the response. The CAA hasn’t got time for this. I’m pretty sure the police have asked them for the same thing, but paranoia is not a good enough reason to make a mess of the UK aviation charts.
@scudosmyth784 ironically the drone law AFAIK is an EU law that the UK had to bring in and never repealed after they left the EU. In fact in spite of all the Brexit claims of "over regulation" from the EU I'm not aware of them repealing ANY of the thousands of regulations they said the EU had brought in.
The police officer will go far in his career with that good attitude and knowledge and he’s only young,I think he needs to come and show the met police how to do things probably 😂😂😂 but all round the security fellas were ok just on edge with the silly protesters
The UK is criss-crossed with pipelines most of them WERE government owned and laid down during the cold war. Their purpose was to pump from west coast ports to supply USAF bases on the east coast. Others ran south to Bristol and then across to London. Spurring off from the pipelines were secret strategic storage bases often below ground or hidden in hillsides. Over the years the major oil companies have supplemented the system with their own pipelines like the one from Anglesey to Stanlow and then further on branching off into Manchester airport. The government system has now been sold off to a foreign company. The petro-chemical industry has dramatically contracted from it's hey day in the 70's and 80's. Most refineries have closed and numerous multi-national companies have pulled out of the UK.
Correct. I was made redundant in the 90s... from an oil company which I adored working for.... Broke my heart when we were taken over by a foreign company 😢😢😢
@@rogerborgSo What ? Did you learn how to read before flunking 4th grade ,?? It means STAY OUT. It means YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS HERE. It means PRIVATE PROPERTY , but I get it now , 4th graders on RU-vid with no respect because their parents forgot to teach them how to behave. No wonder the UK is in such a mess. This explains everything !
All's well that ends well. The 'manager' started off a little overexcited ... though he no doubt enjoyed his flashing lights Haha Good that he managed to get his ego in check and had a decent conversation in the end. The two other security chaps were OK really ... it wasn't their fault. The PC deserves top marks ... he was spot on.
They use Blue lights on there because it is a busy with traffic. That refinery was/is the biggest in Europe at 5 square miles. They have their own emergency response team and fire brigade.
It's just an excuse. Why do so many companies get funny about drones. It's not as if they own the air space above their property. It's nothing you can't see on Google maps. Did they kick off to Google when the Google satellite took images over their property? It's just pathetic and along the same lines of people complaining about people who park outside their house. Just like people say you don't own the road outside your self so have no entitlement to park there, the companies need to get with the times and realise they don't own the air space.
Shocked by officers response, admitted the things he did and didn't honestly know of immediately. Let alone telling the henchmen lol that's perfectly fine for you to do so. 🤜
Best interaction I’ve seen in ages from any police. The head of security could have done a lot better by having the less combative attitude he had at the end, had he been more open to actually trying to find out why you were there (been told by DC staff to speak to security and had been waiting there for him to be able to inform him after initial conversation with the other security) then he could have created a better impression of himself and not been “bellowing unnecessary commands” at a member of the public.
In fairness you did walk past a “No pedestrian “ sign. Prohibited. That said, if security need better training. Exxon in USA are notorious for how they patrol the public spaces.
Here is a few Directives for you if you get harassed by the police Don't run with scissors Don't run with a lollipop in your mouth Don't eat yellow snow Don't kick your dog Don't beat your partner 😠🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
I hope the lorries don't skid on a slippery road and go through the crash barriers and into the pipes shown early in the video. As always, great video, keep up the good work.
Don't matter if he is young and newly graduated, officers going well above 20 years still have no clue what they doing. This guy seems to be educated. More what the UK needs.
He just admitted that the land you were on by the church was rented out that changes who can remove you from it as it is now the church unless they have a major clause in their lease
It is a bit Annoying when they say we asked you to leave when they kept you there asking questions . Other than that they are Very Vigilant and reasonably polite - which you would expect for a critical infrastructure site . That place is like a mini City . Impressive 😮
WoW ! I counted over 100 tower structures in that place and if most of them are chimneys ? What is coming out into environment ? There was a sign saying somthing about cacogenics .So it an amazing insight or oversight you captured And I think the public will be surprised what is next door to them and the potential dangers of illness and contamination
when he took the drone up and you could see what looked like a little residential area amongst the trees to the right of the image, maybe also belonging to the site I dont know, but I was thinking no way I would want to live there right next to that refinery
You have to pick I'm afraid, either ask someone to leave OR engage in conversation demanding you listen. One or the other, you can't do both. If you talk to me you give implicit permission for me to stay and converse
@@willycarle3088 if you're told to leave and implicitly told to stay at the same time you can do what you want. It's the owners responsibility to be unambiguous
Top Audit DJE . The first young Gentleman was very civil and had it all in hand ,until blue light boy arrived and treated you in that condescending manner .The officer was spot on , but it raises the question about the refinery protocol in regards to ringing the police. .
It baffles me how the number of interactions are with people that say they also own drones or are drone flyers themselves, but then go on to quote incorrect information on the usage of a drone. Before I got my drone I got my flyer id, that alone is enough to make you aware of the rules and regulations. Its sounds to me so many people just go out and buy a drone and thats it.
@bluebottle1617 Wrong, if what you say is true, then how do airports, docks, secure storage areas, bonded areas, chemical plants and as you've just seen refineries get away with it ?
@@silversurf6159 Airports have their own fire and rescue service which they must have by law. Docks, yes, especially if they handle flammable materials. Chemical plants, yes, many have their own industrial fire and rescue service, as do oil refineries. Bonded areas, yes, I have come across them with their own firefighting vehicles when I was in the police. If the bonded area holds anything of a flammable nature, then it is likely they will have firefighting vehicles on site. What determines whether a vehicle may have blue flashing lights fitted lawfully is the use to which it is put. Vehicles used for fire, police, ambulance, coastguard and lifeboat purposes are all permitted to be fitted with and use blue flashing lights. The vehicle in the video was a security vehicle; that is not included in the permitted vehicles described in legislation. Amber is perfectly lawful for security purposes, but not blue.
@@realmusicreallife Are they the ones that are under the vehicle? If so, they are perfectly legal. The type the bluelight services use are not lawful to fit to vehicles other than those permitted, by law, to have them fitted. The use the vehicle is put to is what determines whether the fitting and use of blue flashing lights is legal.
@@bluebottle1617 Every man and his dog knows and understands that conventional emergency vehicles, fire, police, ambulance, coast guard, bomb squad etc. can be fitted with blue lights. However, my answer to you above, was to your statement......"It is an offence to fit and use a blue flashing light to a vehicle. Whether the vehicle ventures onto a public highway is irrelevant." .......which is patently wrong. It is not an offence to fit blue lights, as you suggest it is, " Whether the vehicle ventures onto a public highway is irrelevant." There are many other private vehicles that are allowed to have blue lights fitted and be used a couple of examples being certain forestry vehicles, revenue vehicles, Basics Responders which includes GP's and nurses private vehicles. !
That vehicle can't go on a public road with blue lights on. Even if they are off you still can not go on public roads. Recovery trucks have only just been allowed to have red lights flashing on the trucks. So if you wanted to be a pain then you could report it 🙂
@@bubbacallingyes , creating content so you can voice your discontent. Marvellous, isn't it ? , even negativity has a positive effect on advertising payment for views
Ive been on refinery sites, you cant take transmiting equipment on site, tankers have rubberised transmiting equpment and some know it all comes along with a drone ffs
They can't have blue light fitted to a vehicle if it goes out on the public highway. It has a registration plate so I am guessing they do sometimes. They can also not have a blue light fitted to a vehicle even on private land if it is within view of a public highway.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one DJE because believe it or not, I used to be Personal Assistant to the Purchasing Manager for an oil company in my area..... I totally loved the job for 16 years. I dealt with Esso, Shell, BP, Q8 and lots more companies. Our company made grease and oil etc. believe it or not, I was a fire officer lol... If our company went up. It would have taken a lot of my area with it. So I can totally understand why those people on site were worried. We had a few near misses with grease fires. I always said that if our company was totally on fire, I would NOT be on the car park doing a fire officer job... You have to be in the industry to realise how dangerous the oils and chemicals are... but I really enjoyed this video, it took me back to the job I loved the most. Thank you DJE 💖 xxx
@@DJEMEDIA to be honest, I thought that they were dangerous because of car crashes. It only takes one crash to ignite the fuel... Our grease plant was a nightmare. We were connected to the local fire station. We had grease, oils, antifreeze etc. but I loved that job the best. All those high profile companies like Esso, Shell, BP, were a total pleasure to work with. The guy in the car, in my opinion, was just concerned who you were... If I was still working for my old company. I could have got you on site no problem lol. The managers I worked with were sound as a pound. You would have been welcome. But our company was home from home. I hated it when we got taken over by a foreign company x this my favourite video that you have done 👍👍👍✅ xx
@@DJEMEDIA I agree. He could have explained to you about the issues he was worried about... He was really hostile at first and then mellowed. People are going to be curious about sites like that because I really find them interesting as I worked in the industry but I never got to walk on the shop floor. I was in the offices. But I did go to an oil refinery once and it was amazing in Irlam... I think that you did a great job filming though. I'm still reeling from it. Much better for me than the hotels lol.... Xx
If you have a class2 drone licence you can fly drones 250-500g with same rules as under 250 except avoid flying over people intentionally;) Incidentally, The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 blue lights cannot be used other than on emergency vehicles. In areas where it’s considered a road, private or not, would be considered unlawful.
If there was a problem you would be hidden and they would have little to no, knowledge about who what where and as he stated the size of the site makes finding you very difficult and unlikely. The boss was bullish has hell which they tend to be (with little provocation) Brilliant interaction with the police especially when being directed by major companies and he even explained to security that you could do it. Which surprised me, However I would be surprised if your details were not covertly obtained as with whats going on in Ukraine has frightened both companies like this AND UK security services (and not just the police)
The pipeline won't have many pipes inside. It's one pipe that you send fuel through. When you want to switch fuel types you flush it through with an inert fuel. The security guy got it wrong by saying you could go onsite with cameras. They aren't intrinsically safe.
As an Electrical Engineer can confirm that refineries are fascinating places thar produce hundreds of chemicals and substances apart from petrol/diesel from crude oil. These products are used in our everyday lives like soap, shampoos etc and are also used industrial processes in the production of pharmaceuticals agriculturasl, plastics etc
This would be an interesting site to see more of from overhead. The chap from the Police gave a good impression having checked in advance rather than launching into what seems to be the more common explosive tirade about goodness knows what. Thank you.
The funniest thing about flying your drone is the places you are not allowed to fly your drone.....is your drone won't fly there anyway! (it's software won't allow you to do it.)
6:30 Flying a drone over somewhere is not a security breach because no security has been breached. There are no barriers up in the air to be breached. There are no security guards up in the air to be breached. There are no laws that stop a sub 250g drone flying over a place so its no illegal either. So it is allowed.
1.First of all its private property 2. If they want you off there site you leave you shouldnt be arguing with them. 3. You just tresspassed on there property which is clearly marked by sign if they can be asked they can have you for trespassing Tbh they can remove you off sight by force.
Great audit video upload enjoyed watching this great when you go to these big places like different isant it hope to see more to come like this yer the spoke soon wanted you to go to start of with ay then in end comes back to you being all fine and that shows you don't it how someone came just change so quick hmmm ok dj till the next one m8
the steam is used for heating the pipelines that require trace heating because of the viscosity of the product inside of them, it would be solid at ambient temperature✌
22:05 The super aggressive bloke who just destroyed the amicable environment created by the first lot of security proves he failed his GDPR training course. It has nothing to do with publishing and everything to do with getting informed consent and DJE did not give it. In fact DJE gave every indication he did not agree to the company having his personal data.
A nice young police officer who know most of the laws on flying a drone in that area. Great Audit keep safe out there. Have a great Christmas and a great Auditing new year 2024.
Blimey! Pipelines possibly carrying explosive chemicals in clear view right next to a road where petrol tanker trucks (and a mobile crane at 13:20) travel frequently. It’s easy to think of a scenario where a truck could crash through the roadside barrier in a shower of sparks and then fracture one or more of the pipelines… I hope those pipelines were decommissioned years ago.
None of the major refiner/distributor oil companies use their own transport these days, the whole industry is contracted out. The Hoyer or XL or P&O vehicles could be carrying product for many different companies. The oil company have to pay more if they want the tanker in their own livery. As a side note just because a filling station may say Shell or Esso there is no guarantee that Shell or Esso refined the petrol or diesel. The oil companies have exchange agreements to swap or buy from each other using the nearest refinery or storage facility. The product is the same nationally the detergent additive varies from company to company and is automatically injected on the loading rack.
The oil is pumped via pipe line from wytch oil farm in Wareham Dorset. I worked there is a cool place.... fo check it out. Drive to Corfe Castle 1st left before Corfe.... sign on the road says RVP 1
Very stricken these places, all about safety, I use to go into a place same as this to fix the wagons and trailers, anything that could make a spark isn't aloud in
He doesn't have to leave, I mean they can ask but he's under no legal obligation to do so, it's a civil matter. He could come back tomorrow with a tent and live there till they get a civil court injunction to move him on, which can take months. Ask a traveler about moving off private land when asked and what the cops can do about it there and then.
if them vehicles go on the public road, even with the blue lights turned off they are breaking lighting regulations they can not be fitted they can have them fitted and used only on private land.
