One would never imagine there to be such a place hidden among the trees so far off the beaten track here in the west of Ireland. I had often heard of this place, but as there were no signs to illuminate the way, it was difficult to find. In the end it was simply a case of being drawn to it, through waist deep briars and thick copses of young trees. I entered the sacred space as if entering into another world...and there it was! Portal tombs were often referred to as Druid's Altars in the 19th century. The oak trees standing guard by the tomb are about four-hundred-years-old. The Bronze Age tomb is named Cloch an Draoi ('Druid's Altar') on The Druid's Hill between two loughs here in North West Ireland. The Portal Tomb can be dated between 1900BC and 300BC. This megalithic monument, sometimes referred to as a cist-grave, cromlech or dolmen, has been hidden away and perhaps rather forgotten due to it’s location on private land. The standing stone measures 2.2 metres (7 foot 2 inches) high, 1.3 metres (3 feet 8 inches) across and about 0.30 metres (nearly 1 foot) in depth; the top of the stone is curved or rounded. Druids were the most revered clan members and possessed the capacity to recite hundreds of tales, keep the knowledge of the lineages of the kings and had immense ability to harness the power of the Otherworld. Thus the Druid often demanded, and received, enormous payments. Druids were feared for their powers and honoured for their high social status, they were shamans, magi and seers, as well as the official historians, royal genealogists and judges. So, I believe this to be the resting place of such a high status figure, one who perhaps held sway over the inhabitants of this part of Ireland and was interred according to the status given.

My sister bought a farm in north Georgia, USA, in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. One day she took me on a long walk of the pastures and woods. We came to a very steep knoll with many trees on top. My sister didn't make any comment on the knoll and we started up the steep slope. I was looking forward to reaching the top for the beautiful view awaiting me of the surrounding land and the farm. What I found at the top was so much more beautiful, for there I beheld a small Cherokee burial ground. The Cherokee would bury loved ones in stone slab plots facing east so their loved ones could face the rising sun. This must have been perhaps a family spot with numerous burials among the trees, all facing roughly east. It was so peaceful and quiet, with a soft breeze. We walked through quietly, feeling welcomed. After leaving the knoll I told my sister I felt that it was appropriate that she had the stewardship of that place, that those spirits approved, for we were told by our grandmother that there was some Cherokee ancestry from our grandfathers side. I said I sensed they knew that kin were keeping the spot sacred. Your video reminded me of that beautiful memory.

A portal...as you said...as if time had stopped. As if all time was present in this moment...a visceral and animistic connection/merging with the living of the oldest time...the Druid's time. A feeling of being seen and witnessed...And the old Oaks holding the memory of every sunrise and sunset, every conversation both human and other, every windstorm, every bird having perched in their limbs from ancient times until the present...the Old Oaks keepers and guardians of this sacred emergent world.

Colette, What a very special place you have shared with us today. I can feel the mystery of it even while just watching your most beautiful video. It is the same feeling that I had often when I was there in May walking through ancient monasteries, graveyards and various ruins of antiquities. Thank you showing us the ancient oaks and the tomb. Cheers, Michael

@@bealtainecottage I tapped into one Druid past life during a shamanic journey several years ago and one other involving a red-haired giant who showed me how he placed a giant slab of stone. It had Celtic carvings on one side of it. I'm very aware of the energies and when they shift it always gets my attention. :) Blessings to you dear. XX

I have visited sacred sites here in the northeast US. Standing stones and megalithic chambers - mostly in upstate New York. Some believe they were built by ancient Celtic explorers. They hold secrets - lke your Druid stone. I've noticed that is can be a calm and still day, and yet the wind will pick up, as if the ancients are reaching out. Love the video.

I love this! I've always been drawn to trees. I love to visit them, paint them, draw them, and dream about them! I have three Live Oaks on my property here in Texas. I've always felt very drawn to trees of any sort. But I really really love the Oaks. Something about them so ancient and so mysterious and so magical! I once traveled 7 hours south to the coast of Texas on the Gulf Coast. I went to see a tree that is said to be a thousand years old. When I got there I noticed that it was fenced up so the people couldn't get too close. And that it's protected by Native American tribe from here in Texas. Texas has all kinds of Oaks all over. And the terrain here is very diverse. I live in the Piney Woods. I love to take pictures of these Oaks. But this oak tree that I went to see on the coast in a place called Goose Island State Park, brought me to tears. Before I even got to face to face with a tree I was already in tears and shaking. Silly me! I'm either just a silly romantic, or my soul truly has a connection with these ancient majestic creatures! The tree was magnificent! The natives were there the day that I went doing a healing ceremony. During one of the hurricanes the tree had lost a big limb. That made me cry even more! I'm sharing this link with you because I think that it's worthwhile to just stop by the website and take a peek at the little note that's from the tree, (which some human really wrote). But there's a lot of facts about the tree that I think that you will find very interesting. Many blessings to you. Thank you for sharing this with us. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/goose-island/the-big-tree

thanks so much for sharing this with us Colette! I have a thing about big ancient trees, I feel so protective of them. Sometimes when we're out walking I try to bring a tape measure so I can take measurments of their girth. Someday I'll join the Ancient Trees organization, they have a great website where you can look up trees near you and see what's ancient, what's 'noteable' etc. When my husband and I walk in the Bronze age hill forts here (Northumberland) I wish so much I could see what it used to be like! We love trying to imagine it with the deep rings intact and so tall made of stones. I'd love more posts of ancient places and talk about your Celtic Paganism, I'm naturally leaning more that way now but still feel a guilt of my upbringing.

Those Oaks are magical sentinels. I felt the place was excited to have you! Conscious beings aren't exactly the norm yet. We have wonderful enormous Oaks in America, particularly in my home state Texas and in our most thick with spirit place Louisiana. Much love. I'm spending my Sunday morning with you again. The really special thing about the British Isles is that your ancient stories haven't been savaged like ours in America. We are under seige.

Beverly...wow! You r so right...the voice(s) most definitely r there! Oh my goodness...perhaps it continues with Collete's presence allowing something to b conveyed to those who hear in this spiritual awareness. I had a similar experience many years ago while participating in a drumming event with about 15-20 people. The rhythm and intensity seemed to bring to our joint awareness that we had many present with us from another time singing in a language none of us spoke...I will never forget that. We were all acknowledging the wonder of it. Very special!

Just receive my order! I’m just loving your book, “In Search of the Goddess Rising” ....it seriously stirs my soul. I guess more importantly I was so taken back and surprised not to mention thrilled with the complimentary Oak leaf from the Druid’s Altar. It has now become one of the most cherished of things which I have in my possession. I don’t wish to call it mine as I come from the mindset that nothing from Mother Nature can be owned but has only found its way to us so that we can nurture and care for it. I so appreciate its presence in my days. Thank You for your part in helping it find its way to me.

My Irish side of my family tree is talking to me. They came very early to America. Still talking to me. There is a really old oak tree on the end of the block on the street behind me. Still there. That tree saw Texas early history. It is that old and big. I have to touch it every time I walk by. The tree is safe.
