@@soc5830 What makes you think Paul and James are speaking of the same kinds of works?

​@@CatholicTruth101- James was probably written very early in the timeline of the early church. Most likely years before the Jerusalem council in Acts 15. So God hadn't finished revealing things to the Apostles at the time it was written. There was a famine in Acts Ch. 11:28-29 and James was urging believers to help their brethren who were in need. That's the theme of his letter.

If you have believed the Gospel, you have been sealed with the Holy Spirit. If a person understands what God has given them, they would know that they belong to God and God belongs to them, you're one spirit with him by faith. If a person says that they no longer believe in God, I'd ask them what was it that caused them to refuse to believe anymore and ask them what they believe the Gospel is, 9/10, they haven't been exposed to the truth. They more than likely believed at one point, in a works based salvation or they believe God still holds their sins against them and they don't know that Jesus paid for their entire sin record. So, they are ignorant of the grace and mercy of God offered through Christ.

The reason why people turn away from God is because of a false Gospel that adds works to salvation, because they see the standard and can't keep it or they see the hypocritical behavior of other christians and feel like its a cult because they are telling them to live a life they aren't living themselves. Religion is what turns people away from God but its mans fault because they preach things that they add to scripture because they read it with fleshly eyes. They do this Instead of listening to the teaching and guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is the reason we have denominations, people disagree and they go form their own groups looking for people of similar mind. It is important to listen to God and read what the scriptures say and verify what man says with scripture. Once you're saved, you cannot lose salvation according to Ephesians 2, because we are no longer who we used to be, we are a new creation by Faith in Jesus, we have been crucified with Christ, baptized into his death and resurrected by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

All of what Jesus has done for the world is to forgive sins and provide the restoration of the Holy Spirit to us which is our salvation. A true believer, has the spirit of God in them, God will remain faithful to them even when they are faithless. Gods covenant is between him and His son, through the shedding of his blood, the covenant is everlasting. A person must believe this and walk in the newness of life, which is sober minded reality, God loves them and is with them, and in them, forever.

John 6:39 "This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose NOTHING, but should raise it up at the last day." If we "should" perish, if Jesus "should" lose some, well then Jesus has failed to do the will of the Father. So ask them, do they believe that Jesus can and will fail at doing the will of the Father? There are many things we should do, but don't. We should do the will of God, but often fail. However, Jesus always does the will of the Father and never fails.

It's still a sin, and we are all sinners. The bible doesn't support homosexuality the same way it doesn't support adultery, theft, murder, ect. If you put your faith in Jesus, then your sins are paid for, even if you continue to sin.
