Welcome back! This time we talk about the Dunes Casino that was located in Las Vegas from the years of 1955-1993. It was one of the pioneers of the Strip just like the Sands, Riviera, Stardust and others were. You were able to find all kinds of celebrities as well as shows whenever you were there. People also have sets of the chips which is incredible to see. Hope you enjoy!

Amazing how the casino only took $3m to build but at one point was taking in $10m a week, that's insane return on investment

I took my mother to the Dunes buffet when she visited Vegas. The food was very good. I visited the Dunes again right before it was imploded. If memory serves me correctly, before its implosion I was reading in the newspaper about a guy who worked there since it had first opened in 1955. He was very saddened that the hotel was closing. I always hoped that a loyal employee like that found another job on the Strip.

I won $40 at the Dunes in 1977, which was my 1st trip to Las Vegas! I was on vacation out West, and took a bus up from Phoenix, Arizona. In subsequent visits to Las Vegas, I usually won at the Dunes, but never very much. I feel bad that it is no longer there!

My parents took my sister, brother and I on a trip to the American southwest way back in 1970. We stopped in Las Vegas for one night and my parents took us to the "Dome of the Sea" seafood restaurant at the Dunes Hotel/Casino. Fond memories of a great meal and a gorgeous young, woman playing a harp while traveling around the center of the restaurant on a mono-rail type seat that looked like a shell or swan (can't quite remember) and was suspended over a small pool of water. Thanks for a well done history of this long gone, iconic Las Vegas hotel and casino!

How you doing? My name is Bob Anderson and I just saw you talking about the Dunes Hotel Casino. If you are talking about the Dunes, you probably know who I am. I had my own room at the Top of The Dunes where I was given a 2 week engagement and I wound up staying on the top of the Dunes for 12 years. My shows started at 10 in the evening and 2 am in the morning. It was the hang out for all the stars to come and hang out and that is exactly what they did. I don't know of any major star on the strip that did not come at least once to my 2 o'clock show and in most cases got up and performed with me all night. I'm talking Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr. Tom Jones, Liberace, Paul Anka, Engelbert Humperdinck, Jack Jones, Wayne Newton, Dom De Luise, Shecky Green , Jerry Lewis, Don Rickles, Robert Goulet, Debbie Reynolds, and all the others. If you just hit You tube and print Bob Anderson Singer or Impressionist, you'll be able to see a little of who I am and what I continue to do. All the best.

My first trip to Vegas 1961I was 12 years old. In. the early dawn, Dad pulled in under the sultan and I was taken by the big lights that were his rings. The whole thing was just so overwhelming. I always remember the pool surrounded by rooms on two stories. Everyone was super nice and personnel knew my name after the first day. It is a golden memory that is still with me.

My Godfather, Frederic Apcar was part owner of the Dunes and he was the first producer to bring topless showgirls to Las Vegas from Paris and London, called the Bluebell girls in 1959. I got my first big job as a musical director from him in a show he had produced in the Harrah's Casino Hotel Lake Tahoe, Nevada for 4 years 1977 to 81

Played Golf at the Dunes in the late 70's and early 80's, I do remember coming across a horrific scene in the back of the Hotel. It was early morning on the way to playing Golf, we stumbled upon a scene out of a Horror Movie. The hallway or entry way in the back had Blood splattered everywhere with Police Tape around it as well. It was sight I will never forget as well, we never did find out what had happen there. Not a very good memory of the Dunes for me....

Just a small correction, only part of City Center, non of the Monte Carlo (yeah okay Park MGM) and none of New York New York are built on the Dunes course. The course was very narrow for an 18 hole course, it ran next to I-15, going across maybe half a block.
