Nice video, very good instructions for a beginner. Simple and easy looking. I like the method of leaving the head on and pulling it all off together. Thanks!
By far and away the absolute best information on how to quickly clean a fish. Haven't had a chance to fish in over 40 years. Out of desperation went to a local fish farm and bought some beauties yesterday. Put them on ice and after work today Googled "How to Clean a trout" and your video came up first. Followed your lead and we had some excellent coal grilled trout for dinner tonight. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
Thank you so much for this video. I have never gutted a fish before and after watching your video I successfully cleaned three rainbow trout. I appreciate the time you took to make this video so I could learn a new skill. Cleaning fish isn’t so intimidating anymore.
This looks so simple! Thank you for posting this, my husband wants me to clean the trout tonight.. I guess I’ll score a lot of brownie points if I get the fish cleaned the right way without him helping me. Again thanks a lot for this video I’m going to give it a try right now!
Some silly comments in here... Thank you very much for the instructional video. I am just a beginner in the world of fishing (mostly fly right now) I will bust out the bait caster when the pinks show up. I look forward to catching a trout big enough to warrant a bonk. So far I have just caught one 7 incher :)
I find it easier to do everything up to the part where he says to cut the head off but at that point instead of doing what he shows you reach up under the head in the gills to pinch at the spot where they all merge together to break it. Then you can stick your finger down the hole that was the trouts throat and pull down while holding the head in the other hand. The end result is the same except it does not remove the head but I prefer this way because you do not need a cutting board and that makes it more convenient.
I wrap my trout headless in tinfoil add spices of your choice butter and onions stuffed on inside and BBQ. Smaller trout I fry in butter heads on so they don't curl in the frying pan. Bones are always easy to remove with fork. Just peel off one side flip trout over then peel out backbone and ribs. Trout shore lunches in tinfoil on hot coals are awesome as well.
Trouts do have scales. They are small and if you want to eat the skin I recommend scaling the fish first. Don’t believe people when they say trout do not have scales. You can look up videos of people scaling them and showing they scales on the knife lol
I cook fish of this size and remove the bones before serving. I "butterfly" the fish by cutting down one side of the backbone, so the fish will lay flat in the pan or or a cookie sheet. When done it is very easy to lift the bones from the fish with a fork.
