Math Rock Essentials: A Guitarist's Guide To Math Rock: rb.gy/g6q2yh
Hey there. Steve here. In this video, I'm sharing my passion for DAEAC#E tuning, a favorite for crafting beautiful song ideas. I start by exploring why this tuning sounds so unique, thanks to its 12-string-like effect and inherent major sound (A/D over an A major chord). This tuning is a staple in Midwest emo and some math rock genres, offering a different feel from standard tuning.

Been playing in this tuning almost exclusively for years. Simple on the surface, cheat codes for easy stuff, and lots of fun stuff that you can do once you've found your feet in that first a major scale

I've been using this tuning as a go-to for just jamming, and I've gotta say it's definitely become a favorite of mine! Great vid!

Great video, learnt a great deal. Just a sugestion, maybe you could offset the light so the reflexion doesn't distract as much. Or a polarizer filter.

You’re using my dream guitar! I thought I was buying that guitar but it turned out to be Daphne Blue. It just aged over 20 years into more of a surf green color

Interestingly enough I actually use this tuning pitched lower to take a “twinkly *enough* to ‘get by’ for regular music” D-standard (DGCFAD) tuned guitar into deep doomy sludge metal territory with A#FCFAD, I don’t tune the high string down so I have extra range. I don’t use the high strings open unless the riff is based higher up the neck on the relative minor, or if I’m fretting them for chord extensions or playing leads if I’m basing the riff off the low open A#. I got this from soundgarden who have some songs in CGDGBE, who apparently got it from the melvins whenever they go to C! The floppy strings just add to the doomy “bwooooommm” sound hahah. Works a charm and sounds awesome and brutal on bass with those higher power chords on strings 4,3, and 2 with one finger

this tuning is super close to CGDGBE aka Pavement tuning. i found CGDGBE after a djent-head told me to try extending tunings by just downtuning the low string. so taking "drop C" to mean CADGBe. it was a cool trick to test the waters a little with a certain style of metalcore, chugga chugga zwriinnggg chuga type stuff, where i have a lower root but i can play shapes i already know. But then i tuned the A down to a G and i got instant 90s emo/grunge vibes. i now keep my Gio SG copy in Pavement tuning

This tuning is amazing! Another great tuning (which is a variation of this one) is DADAC#E. This tuning is great for adding 7ths and is used by the Midwest emo artist Weatherday. I’d highly recommend checking it out if you are running out of ideas in DAEAC#E but want to keep a similar feel with your music!

How can i go about tuning my acoustic this way?
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock 8 месяцев назад
I'd recommended tuning down to CGDGBD. It's the same tuning but lower. I think this would suit an acoustic better. However, if you still want to tune up, then I recommend throwing some light guage strings on there before you do.
