It’s not about Elon Musk creating a phone that’s pointless. The whole purpose of apps like Twitter is they work on multiple platforms without the need to worry about platform. That’s the main strength of this type of app. If you make the app single platform, it will die.

Anyone else remember when Amazon would do a free app of the day on android? They had a different paid app for free every day you just had to install it from their App Store. And Starbucks used to do those free apps for iOS? They would have those little business card sized vouchers in every store and you could get a different free app every week. Back in the day lol

One thing I don't think anyone has talked about here in this discussion is perhaps the biggest minefield and gatekeeper to a new phone OS coming out... patents. There's a patent for every little tiny gesture and swipe and function and animation to the point where Apple and Google have a really hard time iterating now. I find it difficult to imagine a third party could develop entirely new ways of doing all of those things that don't violate patents.

This is a real life real time example of sunk cost fallacy looks like. LOL

Eventually it will happen, there's a kinda association with google "Alphabet" cloud systems and starlink, so is a matter of time that google makes a Tesla phone.

I wish him luck if he tries, building a phone is arguably one of the hardest things to do in engineering. Building the most important OS in a persons every day life, and the dev experience, and crazy reliable hardware, etc is not trivial. Rockets are extremely hard, but the system is realistically finite; empire building and software through hardware is really really hard

No. It would work out as well as the Fire Phone. Phones are useful because of the available software. Software tracks you - that's the price you pay for software utility unless you're willing to pay for the software and the vast majority aren't. So the economics don't work. Similar to what Musk has been doing with Twitter.

The idea of PWAs does bring up and interesting question. Could WebOS or something like it, be viable today? That is applications that use only HTML5 and possibly some custom hooks. It would need hardware optimized to run a web browser. HTML5 is something that millions of developers know and it might be possible that an application design for the web-based OS could be cross platform.

I need this awestphone. Please Elon

As some others have said, this won’t work. It’s not just buying a phone. And Musk said that he and Apple straightened out the problem they had (according to him anyway). But it’s also possible that Google would boot him as well. Making a new App Store would obviously be almost impossible. Is Parlor back? It was booted off some time ago. Ah Richie, is NOT super interesting at all. It’s like one of his failing companies - boring. The whole thing you’ve said about his phone at the end is total bs, and I think you know it. If anyone could have done much of that, it would have been Apple, Google and Samsung. They already have then thousands of scientists and engineers to do it, and likely have the R&D going already. Musk can’t snap his fingers and sighing, what, a year or two, come up with all of that? The idea would be to get off Android and Apple, or he would still be dependent on the one he remained with. And for what, Twitter? How would that work? Twitter has 240 million daily users. If he was off Android and iOS, he would lose all of them. How many phones of his would he sell, with pretty much no apps at all, and certainly none of the ones we use most of the time? Almost none. Way to go! Failure for the nww phone and Twitter all in one, while at the same time, Tesla stock, which has been going down as a result of the Twitter nonsense, will continue to go down

It’s the ecosystem that matters, not the phone brand.

I think an easier way to make a new OS for mobile is to make it run only web apps. This way, a lot of apps don't need to create their apps from scratch.

Why even make a new phone? Just focus on your website for mobile use. Far cheaper and easier, cut off Apple and Google completely , unified experience for all user, easy access to all mobile devices including the 50 linux phones out there.

The problem will be, that most will not buy this phone just to use Twitter. The phone will NEVER EVER compete with most companies and I bet it will be overpriced. The Twitter issue will not bankrupt him but this hit will hurt him for a long time.

He already has a new phone, and it makes iPhone and galaxy look like a string with Styrofoam cups.

I hate that they always compare iPhone to Android, one is a phone the other is an OS. A more accurate comparison would be iPhone to a comparable Samsung for example. Maybe it's just my ocd talking but it's one of my pet peeves 🤦🏾‍♂️ Ok that's my rant for the day lol

People would have to develop for the Tesla phone instead of Apple and Google. If they end up being the Monopoly it will turn Apple and Google into Kodak. He definitely has the followers, fame, and engineering to do so. It would just take time. If the competition doesn't want that to happen then they would hamper or destroy his abilities to thrive all the way to that super self-sustaining point. A lot of top talent would go to Tesla to develop leaving certain companies to crumble and crumble hard. Capitalism is mainly built on outflow for things that would go defunct to things that are going up then when that no longer performs people dump that and go to something rising or maintaining which is why Russia, China, Iran, NK, Saudi Arabia, etc. are all concerned as people would leave their countries for US/NATO ones.

Elon Musk is a gambler. So far he mostly succeed in where he gambled. I don't think he will succeed everywhere!

Modeling Elon’s soon-to-be vaporware phone after the CyberTruck was masterful shade that escaped most. He picked a fight with Apple for attention, and he got it. He shouts ‘free speech’ while silencing those who call out his BS. It’s just so sad to see Twitter spiral like this. I would love a Rene style video about how Elon bought his way to where he is now, hasn’t invented anything, and how Tesla, a company he did not start, actually makes most their money.

He engineered a reusable rocket that comes back to earth and lands....before space X Russia was the only solution to returning folks from the space station and he put them out of business......and he wasn't a rocket engineer before he did it.....this guy is special.....go ahead and doubt him...he talks a little and creates a lot.....Ukraine appreciates Starlink I'm sure....if you can't appreciate his contributions it's clearly politically motivated... The ecosystem is critical. This is the biggest feature of Apple gear. Someone coming into the market now would really struggle to match the device integration of Apple (and to a lesser extent Android).
