Yup, as Yaad said, those who have tried to escape the village (and go to the dungeon) just lose their bodies and become mindless ghosts. Only Delgal made it to the surface and escaped

The place Laios and Falin are from is a completely random village (they're not even from this island, if I am not mistaken), so no, their graveyard is not the same one Delgal came out from. That graveyard is Floor 1's entrance nowadays. edit: The Golden Castle/Country is not outside of the dungeon, it’s deep down inside the dungeon.

A cool thing about Dungeon Meshi is that we get hints at important story elements early on and they pay off much later. The winged lion has been showing up throughout the show in the background as statues or as symbols on treasure bugs, for instance. The living armour that Laios fought in episode 3 had a lion's head helmet and wing imagery on its armour.

Also the lion head on his sword wasn’t there when he took it. It was added later by dungeon cleaners. There was a moment where Laios saw dungeon cleaners on his sword. He thought they were trying to eat Kensuke, but they were actually carving a lion face on his sword.

Just to clarify: The island where the Dungeon is at is far away from Laios's hometown on the map, so that ghost is not Delgal. ( Also, Delgal had his last words about the mad mage before he faded away. The ghost they met did not say anything like that

I hope they’ll circle back around to it for the final episode. Pretty sure this season will end at chapter 52 of the manga and I can see them (well I hope they do) sticking a voice over about how Laois is the best suited to take the dungeon as the line to end the season on Mild spoilers * * * *last shot of chapter 52 is Kabru and co and the canaries reentering the dungeon*

Both "tamashii" (ball of light, soul) and "tama" (ball) in the word "tamago" (ball-shelled embryo, egg) are said to be coming from an older word "tama" (soul).

The spires and towers visible in the previous levels were all connected to the Golden Castle, that's why you can see greenery growing on the roofs. The entire castle was faintly visible at the bottom of the water level. Yet the village seems to be only accessible through the ghosts and the magic of the Lunatic Magician, almost like a pocket dimension.

The first floor of the dungeon is a Crypt. Delgal emerged onto that crypt. Lauos' backstory flashback has nothing to do with that, the man who had the ring was called Orim and was a man in Laios' vullage who bought a ring from an elf while je was alive and then died and was burried and hos spirit remained

The first floor of the dungeon was the island's graveyard. That's one of the reasons why Marcille freaked out back in the first episode when Senshi cut some graveyard plants to add into the scorpion hot pot.

Tamashii and Tamago maybe indeed etymologically related!　The kanji have nothing to do with each other, but the words in JApanese proper might be. "tamago" is composed of "tama"(ball) + "ko"(child) which is pretty self explanatory. Tamashii is not that straightforward, but it is thought to be related to the word "tama", which in the past didn't just mean "ball" but also "gems" (so, precious round things). Basically, both words are related to "round object". It is not a deep connection but it is there.

the place isnt in a different time or in a different dimension, it is the village outside the castle town that is around the golden castle, which is the 5th floor of the dungeon. Where the group got teleport from were the 6th floor, which was the under ground system of the castle town, so i guess we got teleport back up and out outside of the town.The appearance of blue sky instead of rocky cavern above is what thrown most people off, but it has a simple explaination that will be reveal later in the series

20:00 Really loved your discussion about the elves. Like all the advanced magic users in the series, they all specialize in different types of magic. I wonder what type of magic people who haven't read the manga would predict for each of them (No spoilers) EDIT: As for the graveyard bit. No, the ghost Laios and Falin met is a random other person and it all took place at their village far to the north. The graveyard they talk about in this episode is the entry way to the dungeon, which is on a small separate island. If you want to rewatch that scene, you only need to check out the first few minutes of episode 1. It shows Delgal crawling out from the tomb, informing the villagers of the dungeon before passing on. And the graveyard area is also where the party has their first monster meal, the giant scorpion and slime hot-pot.

in the supplementary comics, we actually learn that the notches are to denote criminals among the Canaries. the notched elves are prisoners, and they can't actually use their magic until their wardens grant them permission.

The first floor of the dungeon is the town crypt and is located under the cemetery. That’s why Marcille was against using the plants that grew there for the scorpion hot pot. The towns folk started using it as a local hub but burial catacombs are seen in the background. Laios and his sister aren’t native to the Island. The magic school that Marcille was in was also from the mainland. Falin must’ve wrote her and when they decided to investigate the dungeon, Marcille would’ve joined them to be with her friend but also because she’s interested in dungeons for her magic studies.

The dungeon they're in is on a tiny island. Falin and Laios come from a different continent up north. The island has a village and its in the village graveyard that the dungeon entrance was discovered.

the king came out of the graveyard that is now the first floor of the dungeon, and being outside the dungeon meant that when he lost his soul he banished, no body and no tether to the mortal plane

Delgal wasn't a ghost at all. he was jsut like a DUDE, hhence he turned to dust cause his body, unable to exit outside the dungeon, fell apart. Laios' flashback has NOTHING to do with delgal. Esepcially because the ghost didn't say shit about the dungeon because 1) delgal spoke about the dungeon before his body turned to dust (again, he wasn't a ghost and 2) the ghsot that attacked laios was a villager from laios' home. he didn'thave a random magic ring to keep him alive because the point is that NOONE leaves the dungeon. also since delgal died outside of the dungeon i don't think he's shackled to it anymore and thus can't show up as a ghost. What DOES matter though is how this all means the lunatic mage's entire thing of controlling the dragon to search for delgal is fruitless because delgal's DEAD, meaning that Falin got transformed for NOTHING.

The island was basically in the middle of nowhere with a small village when the dungeon just happened to burst an opening in their graveyard. Most of the current population is adventurers from elsewhere looking for riches. Delgal made it to the surface which took him out of the zone of the curse of immortality and let his soul go free after aging his body appropriately for a thousand years, thus turning him into ash/particles. Laios and Falin are from a faraway village and the cursed ring has nothing to do with the main plot other than thematically showing how horrible the dungeon curse and associated black magic is in reality. This village is pretty much a pocket dimension in the dungeon, unaccessible by normal means. Housing the subjects that Thistle is trying to protect in his madness. The people who leave to go to the surface end up losing their corporeal bodies to the dangers outside and become spirits because of the curse not letting them pass on. The ghost talking to Laios is just some random ghost. Other than that the villagers are functionally immortal, the horror of which is addressed in this episode. I suspect that it's mostly young people because the old ones felt most responsible and left to seek help, while the young ones stayed pretty static because of the lack of outside influences.

物語を整理する必要がありそうですね。ここはライオスとファリンの生まれた街ではありません。彼らが子供の頃にはダンジョンはまだ発見されても無いでしょう。ファリンが霊術の才能があると分かった墓地は、ライオスが生まれ育った村の墓地です。ダンジョン飯のシーズン2があるならば、前提知識の混乱が起きないような装置が必要な気もします。恐らく人々が思うよりこの物語には多岐に渡る知識が必要です。ファンタジー世界の常識や慣例や歴史と、現実世界の法則や常識が混ざりあった所にダンジョン飯はあります。

@@ellie7252it's not exactly that he's not interested, it's more that he's repressed which also includes romantic attraction. He brushes off romance in the party anyways, because a former member tried to seduce him and almost destroyed the group because of the growing tensions

@@hyobro8392he didn’t even get seduced, the party was just in shambles. Laios never showed awareness of human beauty, he’s always hyper-focused on monsters and how to get closer to one. The closest we get from him when it comes to awareness of flattering intent is the perplexed face he has after getting winked at by Kabru, and it doesn't look like he enjoyed it. He loves his friends but romance takes a lot of passion and desire for people, which Laios doesn't have, he LOVES, yes, but it’s always“I want to know my friends are safe and happy” instead of “Wow they are pretty I want to kiss them” Maybe he will have someone, but in canon, he is kinda just not interested.

@@Huhu0137 I didn't say he was, I meant that this attempt from that former member lead to his awareness that it's not a good thing for the party to have romance and favors within it, probably even more because he's the leader. My point is just that Laios is more complex than this simple-minded guy he presents himself as. I can't fully get into the ways that is because it's developped later in the story, but we can already see some of it in the anime. Later on his romantic attraction is addressed specifically, which I won't get into because of the spoilers.
