This was such a wonderful conversation. Courtney is so well spoken and eloquently talks about complex topics like the drag backlash and trans panic with such compassion and care. She’s a great spokesperson because she’s actually been on these news shows with the goal of educating the public with a queer perspective. It was also great to hear Katya speak more in-depth on these issues and finish her thoughts uninterrupted. Just a really great back and forth between these two. Courtney articulated what I’ve been thinking recently about the ‘drag queens are groomers’ discourse in Australia ‘being spoken with an American accent’. I’ve always been proud of the fact that we’re a comparatively accepting and safe country for queer people, but I’ve definitely noticed a small minority starting to parrot uneducated rhetoric they’ve picked up from American media. Overall though, as Katya said, we’re pretty gay and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
@sabaducia
@sabaducia 8 месяцев назад
Agree. It's augmented by media too. The conversations on TV vs Facebook vs Real Life are all very different, with different degrees of "American accent". I have to remind myself that Sky News or FB comments are probably the "worst" examples, and not representative of most people who think differently to me.

It recently has been proven that "men were hunters, women were gatherers" is a total myth and all the evidence says that everyone back in prehistoric times had to both hunt and gather. Also it is said that the best hunters of every tribe were old and experienced women. I've heard that it is not even new to discover evidence of lots of hunter women and the evidence has always been there but science chose to theorize things in a way that felt more "natural" to them and their belief system.

All Katya. All Courtney. Plus an intelligent conversation where Katya gets to finish her thoughts? Yeah I won today and I just want everybody to know that.

This lived up to my own hype and then some. Such a nurturing, intelligent conversation that flowed very lovingly. Courtney gave me hope re: how to reach bigots by seeing past the tactics to divide us. What a wonderful teacher, she knows the way! Also, Katya as a solo interviewer/listener has the most calming, soothing presence. It’s giving PBS chat show but dirty, which I love. The Trixie & Katya duo magic cannot accommodate a third (or more)presence, it’s too concentrated. But separately they still do their own thing in cool different ways. I ❤ them.
