My 6-year-old daughter wanted to watch the Emoji Movie, and I sighed and said ok. Fifteen minutes into it, she goes "This really sucks!" and wanted to turn it off. True story.

After this movie, words became cool again

the fact that this movie only took nine months to make when the average animated film takes 3-4 years really just sums up how much they cared

Smiler might be the villain, but it makes sense why she does what she does. Emojis acting out of character spells "hacking" or "broken internet" in the real world! Deleting an emoji causing those technical issues would be a realistic thing to do!

If this film was realistic, the ending would’ve been much much darker, and very very satisfying.

The whole "the only female emojis are princesses and brides thing" is ridiculous considering that most emojis are neutral are based on inanimate things and as mentioned, where there are female emojis, there's more than just princessses and brides.

What happens when The Lego Movie, Wreck-It Ralph and Inside Out somehow manage to get an unwanted freak of a child and decide to sacrifice it to Satan? Satan possesses the CEO of Sony and force him to spit the freak back out at the world of animation!

A movie just boringly bad with some nice visuals. No unbelivable cheesiness, no so-bad-it's-good feeling, no chance to ever become a cult classic of bad movies.

Thank you SO MUCH for pointing out the overlooked fault in this movie that this film actually encourages kids to be glued to their phones rather than hold actual verbal and physical conversations. We are so doomed.

8:15 this joke was made more sharply and more succinctly in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, when Flint distracts Sam with a cute video while he tweaks his machine and she goes "how have I been watching this for three hours?" It's kind of a hand wave about how he easily distracted her long enough to reprogram his device but also takes a small jab at people going down YT rabbit holes. It's so weird that the same company made both of these movies. Also, how is it that Sony can also make movies like Smurfs or Peter Rabbit, but also make Spider-Verse and Mitchells vs. the Machines? What's the key factor that makes some of these movies timeless gems and some of them utter piles of garba- oh it's Lord and Miller.

The characters in this movie probably tried to hang themselves only to say: Oh ha! I don't have a neck!

Just remember that the Emoji Movie was made by the same studio that made "Spider-Man, Into the Spiderverse".

Still couldn't believe they cut Popeye for this..

It’s obvious, but the film would have been more logical and realistic (yes, for a film where the “protagonists” are sentient emoji) if the antagonist had been a virus. It gives Gene a far better goal and possibly a corruption storyline. The film could even have dabbled in identity theft where Gene is tempted to fill the role of another. Yes, it’s enormously derivative of Wreck it Ralph, but it’d at least be trying to contain a moral about how you can’t always trust that the person your talking to is who they say they are. This could have been Alex’s storyline, he’s downloaded a virus and he’s being manipulated or data theft or something. It even provides a mystery angle on the inside the phone storyline as Gene and co have to work out who the virus is. Perhaps is the virus uses avatars based on the photos on Alex’s phone, twisted by photo filters or effects. That would be creepy and while it’s Wreck it Ralph again, it may provide some insight in how Alex thinks.

What was this movie trying to be? The writers clearly don’t understand teens, emojis, or even how cellphones and apps work. Also I’m convinced that Jailbreak is just a feminist strawman written by anti-feminists. Her gripes about emojis only being princesses and brides make no sense (by 2017 we had several female emojis of different roles, and most are neutral anyway) and her character is just so sloppily tacked on.

Okay so true story, my sister went to see this movie as part of a birthday party and within 30 minutes she was texting me begging to be picked up.

Did you know: Jailbreak is a ripoff of Wyldstyle from The Lego Movie, personality and design-wise. She's also a ripoff of Olivia “Sombra” Colomar from Overwatch because she has a skull similar to Sombra's Calavera symbol on her beanie, both characters have purple hair and are notorious hackers, which makes Jailbreak a double rip-off.

I agree with the Critic on this movie. It's not the worst movie I've seen as it does have creative and colorful visuals, nice animation, and decent character designs (mostly for Addie McAllister and the Just Dance instructor, Akiko Glitter). But everything else is pointless, unbalanced, make no sense, and feels wrong. As is, it's just a meh movie, being uninteresting and unfocused with its characters and story.
