I haven’t watched the show since shortly after they first introduced Poof, but uh...does anyone else remember that episode where Timmy wishes to see a world where he never existed or something, and then finds out that literally everyone is better off without him, and then chooses to live regardless out of pure spite for everybody in his life? Because that was dark af and kinda confused on what type of message they were trying to show kids. Particularly as a person who has been persistently affected by major depressive disorder since the age of 13.

Wait, if all of Timmy's wishes were null and void when he lost his fairies, why is Crocker still insane? The reason why he lost Cosmo and Wanda was because Timmy went back to the past and accidentally made kid Crocker confess to the town that he had fairy godparents, forcing them to be seized and Crocker to be flashbanged by their amnesiac technology until he went crazy as a result. That wouldn't have happened if it weren't for Timmy's meddling.

I honestly liked the idea of Chloe but she was executed extremely..terribly. Plus they got rid of Chester and AJ.

The episode that ruined FoP? So season 9-10

real talk: the show should have ended with channel chasers. it was like, the best ending the show has. with the epilogue showing an adult timmy happily married to tootie with kids of their own repeating the same mistakes his parents did, thus his kids inherit his old faeries. while he himself doesnt remember having fairies, his old fairies are still around his house and close by. timmy might be a grownup, but hes happy. his arc as a character is over. what more is there to do with him? ....but then the series continued. and basically threw all of that away. they had the best note the show could have gone out on practically giftwrapped to them, and yet. a similar issue happened with dexters lab, actually. though dexters season 3 was at the very least still watchable. this however... this episode is the biggest insult to channel chasers ending, as timmy already came to terms with having to grow up and leave his childhood (including cosmo and wanda) behind. why would he then wish everyones ages remain the same if he was ALREADY at peace with the idea of childhoods not lasting forever?!

I can actually think of a way this can work: Make Timmy wish the secret wish when he first gets his fairly god parents in a flashback, and have him slowly forget he made the wish. That way it wouldn’t undercut his character growth, and also provide a reason why he never unwished the secret wish, even after Channel Chasers

I remember seeing a few episodes of this show when I was a kid. I think my favorite exchange of dialogue is the following: Dad: "My dreams were ruined years ago." Timmy: "How many years ago?" Dad: "How old are you?" Timmy's resulting blank expression just says it all lol

There's a good saying that goes "All good things must come to an end." This episode is proof that you can only keep a show going for so long that you run out of ideas. It's not just this show, it's also Spongebob, Family Guy, Simpsons, the list goes on. These shows have gone on for decades now, and I think it's fair to say they've lost their mojo. However, the company's that own these respective shows care about money, and no matter how stale they get, as long as they're still profitable, they ain't going anywhere, and that really hurts a show.

More people need to talk about that musical special this show had. It was always pretty good.

The thing that gets me about Timmy being selfish is that I totally get that he WOULD become selfish after years of having fairy wishes. Sure, a lot of his wishes turned out to be life lessons, but if he constantly wished for material things without consequence, that would get a kid his age spoiled. I could see him also thinking he comes to term with losing his fairies, but then panicking when the day actually comes and making a stupid wish out of pure fear. I always thought there was potential in an episode where a dark future exists where Timmy becomes the new Crocker, only even more unhinged and frightening. This special has some great concepts, but loses it in the execution, especially having Timmy befriend Crocker to save the day. Something I find MORE annoying that they walked back. Other than that, this would have been a decent series finale, rather than wasting the ONE good concept they had in the last season. You know, the evil version of the Care Bears. Of course, the REAL death of Fairly Oddparents? When they hired Ray DeLaurentis (sp?) as a writer. You know. They guy that wrote BOTH Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island AND the Bubsy Cartoon pilot. Real talent there.

I think channel chasers was really good for kids to watch because of how close the fairy god parents are to REAL parents. It could help kids come to terms with the fact that their own parents will eventually be gone, though not from their memories.

Actually, the idea of Timmy secretly wishing that everybody stay the same age forever is kind of clever, if you think about it. Shows like these often have the Ash Ketchum effect, where despite how many episodes are made, nobody ever gets older. The wish serves as an in-universe explanation as well as self-aware humor. The rest of the special, though... Yeah, it seems like they just had that one good idea, and no story to build around it. Edit: Oop. Mark basically says this later in the video. lol

I remember as a kid I loved the channel chasers special. Adult Timmy seemed badass to me I liked all the different styles and references to shows. And I liked that the ending showed Timmy would have his fairies essentially until he's 18 in college. So I always thought it'd be cool to see that growth, until that fateful last episode Timmy 17 minutes away from turning 18 and losing his fairies and his memories of them. And Timmy either journaling all he can remember all their adventures, Timmy saying how he loves them and how he wishes they could stay in his life somehow and that being his final wish a wish effect goes off. We'd have a montage of Timmy living his life until he gets to the point we see him in channel chasers as an adult. And we now see why Timmys kids have Cosmo and Wanda, even though they can't interact with him they're still in his life somehow. I remember as a kid watching that channel chasers ending made me realize oh shit it's not gonna be cartoons and toys and videogames the rest of my life oh damn I'm gonna become a adult someday... But I literally did what Timmy did I decided to make a mini time capsule for myself so future me could remember what once was. To me I think the series could've just ended after that... Although I did enjoy the future specials channel chasers just has a close spot in my heart.

Elton John initially lent his voice and piano skills to the rock opera version, with the Who recording a separate band-only version. This is that one. But instead of the Who, it’s the What The Fuck

To me The Wishology Trilogy is the series finale of The Fairly Oddparents everything afterwards is non canon.

So, new viewer here and all, but I just wanted to specifically point out something. 8:40 This is the actual first time I've ever seen the modern animation for this show.........this...................this is an abomination.

Reminder that Nick cancelled this show only after Butch Hartman left the network. The creator had to quit the network to kill this show for good after 16 godamne years that how bad Nick is (and butch also for only caring about the money the series did and quitting after seeing wasnt profitable too)

for me, the episode that killed FoP was the special where Poof is introduced. From that point on, the humor became increasingly crass and predictable, the characters' worst traits highlighted constantly, and the introduction of Poof felt like a desperate attempt to cling onto relevancy. He doesn't add much to the dynamic as he is a BABY.

I think they could've just made Season 7 the final season, skip the whole 8th season except for Meet the OddParents, and it would've been a cool finale, as well as skipping the live action movies.

I remember getting into an actual argument as a kid when this came out. I loved Wishology and rewatched it religiously. I dove for the TV when they came on. I even liked Sparky too. But this episode was blasphemy to my 11 year old brain. Now, my point still stands but im a lot less aggressive about it.

They really should have ended the show after Wishology.

Tbh: This episode was kind of Dark for me😨 I know Timmy made bad decisions(Wishes) in the past series lately but when he told Cosmo to be 10 forever after 50 years too. It really bothered me as a kid knowing you have the power of immortality and not ever due or for “Timmy Turner”, not to lose his Fairys 🧚‍♀️

I've been thinking about this for a few days now and I feel like this could have been done as an interesting finale to the series if they did things right. Timmy made the secret wish before the events of Channel Chasers, including telling Cosmo to erase his memories. Even though the future aspect of CC would need some sort of tweaking, Vicky altering the aging due to the remote magic or something, so when Timmy learns the lesson that growing up is going to happen and its okay he can't unwish the wish because then he would reveal that he made such a selfish wish and, being a kid, he keeps that a secret and hopes it goes away to protect himself. They could have shown Timmy being a good person, if the Wishology erased ending wasn't there, that could be an example of him being a good person and helping people. In the end the wish that he made was still bad, and therefor everyone had to age. Make him a middle to late teenager and, although he can't have his faries, Cosmo and Wanda get special permission to watch over him and help him secretly because he is still dealing with his life troubles, more like guardian angel type of things. Of course that kind of plot would have taken a lot of planning and a lot more tweaking than that basic idea.

8:45 I’ve noticed this is a common complaint about the later FOP seasons, and now seems perfect to address this. There’s never been a rule in the series stating that fairies couldn’t be seen by (or even interact with) humans. The rule is simply “you can’t reveal the existence of your fairy godparents.” By this, it means not telling other people that you have fairy godparents or them figuring out you have fairies in the first place. To give some examples from the first five seasons: in the Season 2 episode Boys in the Band, Wanda shows up to Timmy’s bedroom with Chip Skylark’s récord manager undisguised. All the guy calls her is a “pink-haired mystery woman,” thus not breaking the rule. In both Chin Up and Scary Godparents, Cosmo and Wanda go completely undisguised at each episode’s events (comic book convention and Halloween, respectively), with the reason being that as long as everyone else assumes they’re “big-headed kids in costumes,” they haven’t broken the rules. Keep in mind that the words in the quotation marks are the important loopholes. I haven’t seen much of FOP Seasons 9 or 10, but it may be possible that because of these kinds of loopholes, the fairies can interact with humans just fine. EDIT: As a final point, I’d like to direct you to this exchange from the Oh Yeah! Cartoons pilot. Timmy: I think I’m calling the cops. Wanda: (stops Timmy with a railroad barricade) Hold it, tiger! You can’t tell anyone about us! Cosmo: If you do, we’ll just go away forever! Note how there’s nothing forbidding Cosmo and Wanda from coming face-to-face or ever interacting with other people.

I really think a good direction to have taken the later seasons would be to do what Fairy Idol did and expand on the roles of the people of Dimmsdale, not Fairy World or adding new characters. Chester getting his chance to shine as the unlucky but pure-hearted foil to Timmy and AJ's self-involvement was great to watch. It would have been cool to have a similar special focusing on AJ getting mixed up in the main plot. But instead they were completely written out even though AFAIK most fans liked Timmy's friends.

When I watched "Timmy's Secret Wish" as a kid it never sat right with me. It felt like something that wasn't even supposed to happen.

I remember this episode, especially due to the fact that there was a blackout in the exact moment when they would reveal Timmy's wish and I never saw the episode again until more than five years in the future.

I remember the style of humor changed right when Poof was introduced. Suddenly Timmy and other characters would flip out and do weird expressions and reactions the way only Crocker did in the past. The characters also seemed dumber and meaner. I don't think Poof himself was the problem, but the creation of his character was a symptom of the problem. I'd say the show was "ruined" long before this episode came out

I remember channel chasers pretty fondly. I think, one of the most important lessons children will have to learn is in this special. Having to grow up and leave behind things you did as a child doesn't mean you completely forget it and never look back. On top of that, another message that's more subtle is if we become parents we have to learn from the mistakes of our parents or else we put our children through the same misery we experienced. It's never explained how much of their memories are erased but Timmy's children end up with faries which means he's neglecting them so Timmy probably doesn't remember the misery he went through to save his kids from it.
