As a teenager that has been troubled by acne for years, the flawless faces on social media made Sophia feel even worse about her appearance. The more beauty content she saw, the less confident she became. After watching a RU-vid video, Sophia finally discovered the secrets of all the "perfect" people on social media. She started to notice her perfect imperfections and appreciate how unique she was. And her goal as an ex-victim of social media lies is to reveal the dark secrets of the influencers and help other people who are in the same situation as she was. Sophia Shi is a 16-year-old Vancouver student seeking to raise awareness of the fake reality on social media. At 11, she became the youngest Vancouver Fashion Week model and has walked for many runaways and appeared in over ten publications, including British Vogue and Vogue China. Through her experiences as a model, Sophia intends to empower young women by combating unrealistic beauty ideals and promoting unconditional self-acceptance. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

“A real person isn’t perfect, and a perfect person is never real.” That hits me!

This speech is so underrated! People who are surrounded by social media lies need this video. We often underestimate number of social media victims struggling with body image issues and lack of self-esteem, which is why we need someone like this to stand up and discuss about this issue! Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you for sharing this. As a 22 year old, I still deal with comparison due to social media & it can be infuriating to see so many people who appear to be so perfect. Thank you for your vulnerability and realness!

We’ve been seeing it for years: people who are all nicey nicey on social media and are horrible irl, but about the people who make themselves out to be bad on social media but are angels irl…

i think that a part of social media is actually motivating, seing people change how they look may make some girls cry about their body. but some think to themsleves " this is actually possible " and change themselves because of it. That is at least my perspective

The rhythm of the speech is very accurate, and the ups and downs are orderly. The voice is full of emotion, very expressive, and the thoughts and feelings of the speech are expressed.

What does the phrase “no one is perfect” mean? Does it mean that we should work for improvement?

I think it means, appreciating who you are, where you are at that moment and allowing yourself to grow and reaching your dreams at your own pace,
