if the fame is the yang, the fame monster is the yin. this is a reverse contrast between light and darkness. when gaga bled to death performing paparazzi at the 2009 vmas it was a commentary on fame culture and how the media loves to see the demise of the artist. the performance was the ending to the fame era. the fame monster is the aftermath. the decay of the superstar. for this album gaga was inspired by all the darkness/fear in her life, the "monsters" she encountered on the road. each song represents a monster: bad romance: the fear of love monster alejandro: the fear of men monster monster: the fear of sex speechless: the fear of death dance in the dark: self monster telephone: fear of suffocation/pressure so happy i could die: fear of addiction teeth: the truth monster a staple in her career, probably one of the most impactful pop albums in history that redefined a whole era.
at 2:36 when u said "im getting vampire vibes" that's exactly how it is. she was heavily inspired by actual monsters for this album too. she also spent a lot of time in gothic industrial clubs in berlin germany, hence the heavy synth sounds!
14:21 Honestly, you're not wrong. Fun fact, actually, Gaga wrote Telephone specifically for Britney Spears, she was the first choice for a collab with Gaga on the song, but Britney turned it down. So, that's when Beyonce came in. *Though, now that I look back on it... Dance In The Dark sounds way more 'Britney' than Telephone EVER will.*
haha i was referring to her saying “free b!tch” since i know britney was recently freed. i haven’t listened to alot of britney’s music but might be something i do in the future 👀
Britney didn't turn it down. She recorded the demo for Circus and it was her record company who turned it down but Gaga gave Britney Quicksand for Circus to make up for not having Telephone. There are different demos out there with her and Gaga on it.
Love your reactions! As for your question at the beginning! The Fame Monster is the EP to The Fame. The Fame was all about…well…fame (lol) and pop culture and stuff like that. Where as The Fame Monster Gaga decided to take the darker approach and show what the dark side of fame is like. Originally it was just supposed to be a re-release of The Fame with the extra songs, but Gaga wanted to release them as stand alone album, rather than just an add on to The Fame. Which is why you can find the The Fame Monster as a stand alone 8 song album, as well as the deluxe version of both The Fame/Monster together. At this point she was starting to REALLY blow up. She was seen as that quirky girl at the beginning of her career, but after her 2009 VMA performance of Paparazzi where she bled to death on stage, she really started to give us GAGA. Her fans became more hardcore and we became her “Little Monsters” and she was “Mother Monster.” Also each song on this album, Gaga says is a different monster. Bad Romance is fear of love monster, Alejandro is fear of men monster Monster is fear of sex monster Speechless is fear of death monster Dance In The Dark is fear of self monster Telephone is fear of suffocation monster So Happy I Could Die is fear of alcohol monster Teeth is fear of truth monster
Love your reaction, this album truly brings back lots of memories❤️ I can’t wait to see your reaction for “Born This Way” , which is truly an experience 🌈
loving your reactions ❤❤ The Fame Monster is one of my favorite body of work from Gaga, there's just something about it that feels timeless Thx for the great video!
It kills me that Dance In the Dark went right over your head, talking about Marilyn Monroe and Sylvia and Julie Garden and John Bonet Ramsey and Princess Diana it’s about these storied females that had tragic ends and were treated horribly by men
im laughing so hard at your teeth reaction because being a massive little monster myself i still have to recognize it is one of her most what the actual fuck songs lol it's one of my favorites
You're so right!!! This is the darker relative. With all the vampire & wolf talk! I couldn't stop laughing when you mentioned being at a club with these monsters. Honestly a Halloween Party 🖤
Be careful when you do a "reaction" not to sing along (speechless) you look like a fool afterwards. Now that I know it's not genuine I'm out. (You even did the hands to go up a scale)
Speechless was a ballad to her father begging him to get the heart surgery he needed to live. He did not want to and she begged him to with this song and after she wrote the song he got the heart surgery.
At the time she was on a (I think ) 5 album deal with her record label. She wrote these 8 songs while performing the fame and wanted to release them but just wanted to do it on their own. To get through the loophole she just released these 8 as kinda a 'dulux' version to complement the album and not have to release a full other album. Also the fame was constructed over many years and that's why there are many different styles of pop music. Because her huge pop/dance songs hit well with the public they wanted to add this to just a Dulux just incase the pop / dance was just a fad.
She went from dance-music novelty to derided "pretentious freak" (in the eyes of casual onlookers) to radio hitmaker. Many people still thought she was just a pop star who capitalized on spectacle to cover for a lack of talent. And then, with one Sound of Music medley and one Star Spangled Banner, every honest naysayer had to admit she has enormous talent and understood a lot of her music represents an artistic choice to sound a certain way; her pop songs with less-showy vocals are not the product of a pop star who can't sing well. I am disappoited by anyone who can't at least appreciate her talents and her creativity, whether or not they like it. I love a lot of Gaga's early music. The Joanne-type music, the jazz albums aren't really my vibe, but who cares? She follows her imagination and her creative inspirations, and that's really admirable for someone who works in a supposedly creative and artistic industry that really only exists to maximize profit potential.
So happy I could die and teeth are so underrated!! One of the reason i love teeth so much is because i found a video of rihanna at coachella being like😬😁during gagas performance of teeth lol ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q_12_VOY65c.html
dance in the dark being ur least fav.. um 😶 was nominated for a grammy too. update. you liked the fame better? :o i preferred tfm, def was darker and away from the happy sound it brought, but the fame is amazing and iconic
