The Paulk Smart Bench was created by TheSmartwoodshop, founded by Ron Paulk in 2011. The bench was designed to be a versatile, easy-to-use workbench for professionals and DIYers.
The bench was inspired by Ron's experience as a carpenter, remodeler, and builder finding traditional workbenches did not meet his needs. He wanted to create a more efficient, portable, and customizable bench.
The Paulk Smart Bench has a compact design that is easily stored and transported. It also features a modular design with interchangeable parts that can be easily added or removed to suit the needs of every user.
The bench quickly gained popularity among carpenters and other professionals. TheSmartwoodshop Inc. has continued to innovate and improve upon its design. Today, the Paulk Smart Bench is the best workbench on the market, with a reputation for durability, functionality, and versatility. thesmartwoodsh...

At 50, having been a roofer/carpenter for 30 years, my body has told me that all my heavy tools and work benches need to be mobile. Ron, your mind is amazing to watch. Thank you for taking the time to teach us.

great story. I love Gary Katz. I attended his live workshops in northern CA a few times and learned a lot each time about work flow, efficiency, tools, jigs, and lots of techniques that I have used ever since. I even convinced my boss at the time to give us the day off so we could learn how to better serve his projects. I trained my friend Agusto and I revamped the way I work just in time to do miles and miles of trim in a huge old victorian in Berkeley, CA. We used the crown jigs, the Collins coping foot on our jigsaws and the miter spring clamps. We hung 20 doors the Katz way with that secret shim just above the bottom hinge. I bought my sawstop jobsite saw then as well and started drooling over the Kapex. This was also the year I discovered your channel.

Thanks for posting this one. Although I've been watching for several years, I kind of lost track which items was THE latest version. And my next wonder, was IF something newer maybe wasnt as good as you originally thought. This helps put it all together as I'm gathering my resources now in preps to build my first Paulk bench.

I’m sold Ron. Once been watching your videos for a couple of years now and sometimes felt very smug with myself as my cheap copy has been a large pallet on two plastic trestles. I might upgrade the pallet now and drill some 20mm holes in it. Thanks man. You’re an inspiration. No In all seriousness, I love your system. I’m just not disciplined enough to be so organised.

The evolution of your design is truly awe-inspiring. Have you ever thought about a design for weekend warriors where we could hang a miter saw off the regular PSB so as to maintain more of the surface area of the bench (instead of introducing another plane with the routing tables)?

Ron, I have always liked your designs. I have purchased plans in the past and built some of these workbenches. You have condensed the workbench, the smart trailer, but there is one more thing you can do since you have built so many homes…The Smart Tiny Home! What do you think?

Great video Ron, recapping the history and evolution of a great job site work platform. I have built the compact bench back in fall 2019 (bought all the ver 2.0 bench plans) and am appreciative to have it with working mostly alone and having the bench as both a (very needed) table saw out-feed and work surface. Currently, I am in search of a light weight plywood and when I find a source, I will buy the new plans and will build the SMART station first and then one or two SMART (compact) benches. Not sure about the big bench yet….. Thanks for all the effort you put into the years of development of these work benches that allow me to benefit for pennies on the dollar of your work. And as always, thanks for the content and a great channel!

While I call myself a painting contractor it would be more accurate to say exterior restoration contractor. Most of my jobs involve some replacement of damaged wood or redoing someone else's poor carpentry. I built one of the original Paulk Workbenches before you came up with the newer versions. I think it was in 2016. At the time I had a very talented woman working for me who wanted her own bench but wanted a smaller, easier to handle version that would fit in her Tacoma pickup. She built a similar two piece bench that measured 32 inches by 6 feet. Both of those benches are still in daily use. I like the mobility carts but those casters wouldn't work very well to get around the outside of someone's house. I have something in mind that uses pneumatic tires that will roll easliy over rough ground. I'll build it this winter when I can't work outside.

Hi Ron, I have two questions. I bought your smart workbench a few years ago from Fastcap but I noticed they aren't sold there anymore. What happened? Also, I see you are looking for a home. Didn't you just buy one in SW Florida?
@xagur8
@xagur8 2 года назад
Hi Paul. These videos are greatly delayed.... takes lots of time to edit and prep. Ron mentioned in this video it was 2021. The videos you see of him working on the Florida house are typically posted months after he filmed them.

Fastcap manufactured the Paulk Compact Bench for a few years. We were selling them for below cost and still the main complaint was the price. We were unable to bring the cost down so I finally gave up. As stated in the video description, this video was lost and when I discovered it, I posted it.

If it was the smaller piece of ply, he might be referring to a router table accessory sans router when not on the bench. Just a thought….
@RoyatAvalonFarms
@RoyatAvalonFarms Год назад
@@TheSmartWoodshop I suspect hes referring to your router extension on the SMART Station. When you held it up, it did not have the router in it and had the rectangular opening.
