Couldn’t help to shed a few tears. I was there in Sept but the ride kept breaking down I never got a chance to ride it one last time. 😢. RIP to a classic ❤
@@BAKER22-l4u Literally just because a lot of us have so many memories of this ride throughout the years. Speaking for myself, but I'm assuming that's why people are so emotional about it.
I was there just mere months before the re-theme was announced, enjoying Splash without a care in the world. I was 99.9% certain Splash was safe and that Disney would never take it from us... And yet, here we are. It feels like such a spit in the face to fans, especially right after all the merchandise they released to celebrate the 30th anniversary. Seeing the attraction's final hours genuinely made me burst into tears. It felt like a nightmare. Make no mistake, this re-theme was not planned "years" before. This was corperate intervention. Disney should be ashamed.
It was a business move to try and market a movie they are desperately trying to cement as a new old time classic. No one was asking for the change, Disney made it up as part of the strategy to modernize the park with more newer movies and less reliance on the old ones.
Just like how the tower of terror in California turned into Mission Shitout. Disney is desperate for more money and is basically getting rid of the magic that people love, for modern, attention grabbing shit which just tries to be appealing to this generation.
It sucks that Tiana had to take the place of this bc people are so sad about this ride closing and mad at the Tiana lovers like we did something 😂 we can’t even get her merchandise in most places so it’s so odd that she is the replacement
man i went to disney world in 2017 and we already had put our queue in for the ride sadly a storm came and ruined it and now i never got to ride it but im glad yall had fun
I wonder what's going to happen to those Splash Mountain animatronics (that used to be in American Sings Attraction)? Do you think they keep them in storage? recycle them? or throw them away?
After this ride closed almost a year ago, I am no longer upset about Disney’s decision, even though this ride meant a lot to mine and other’s childhoods, all good things come to an end at some point. As of the way Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is currently looking at WDW, I am very excited for what imagineering has to offer for us guests, and you all should be excited to. Farewell Splash Mountain, we all miss you, and will forever have memories of all our rides!
I can see why it was necessary and i can see a good reason to gut the ride and update it but it’s still sad. But all things must come to an end at some point. One war one dance and life goes on. I suppose we shall see how the re theme and update goes who knows it cold make the ride even more amazing than it was before. But it will always be a classic
Well, I think the younger ones didn't even know what Song of the south was. That is, they could not even relate the ride to the racist film. For many, it was just a ride with a story. I watched the movie and loved the Uncle Remus stories, but that's just what I think. 🤷🏼
You are 100% correct, when I was little I just saw the ride as a random story of a fox and a bear chasing a rabbit with many classic songs in between :)
So after Splash is transformed to Tiana's Bayou Adventure the boat ride feel is changing to canoeing on Louisiana Bayou and not rivers of Georgia (where Song of The South is set) anymore and the queue area will not resemble Phoenix, Arizona anymore as the ride's area is transformed to Southern Dome.
Disney I'm staying away from giving you any money I can after pulling my second favorite ride. Just an fyi. Poor decision not listening to the majority but the very loud sensitive minority
The way of the world now, unfortunately. It's all upside down. Look for more closings as people keep digging for racism and offensiveness in everything.
I’ve taken three trips to Disney world and the first two times I didn’t even know what the ride was about I thought it was kind of strange for Disney to make an original ride and one this prevalent in the park, it wasn’t until 2020 that I knew what the ride was about, we bought the movie and watched it, the only thing that’s racist about this movie is that is was made in a different time and things change in culture, slavery was wrong like disgusting and filthy, the movie at its core is not at all racist, it sickens me to think we’re losing an amazing ride to some woke person who didn’t like that a black person was in a movie.
@@BAKER22-l4u exactly in todays woke culture. there is nothing wrong with a black man telling a boy- stories to get him through a hard time. They are erasing a movie where two black people won awards, I personally don’t think we should be erasing black actors, besides even if the movie was racist the ride literally doesn’t even show uncle Remus just his stories. How can the ride possibly be racist?
"it sickens me to think we’re losing an amazing ride to some woke person who didn’t like that a black person was in a movie." So you're against Disney to retheme the ride from a man who was a slave on a plantation to the first African American Princess? That really says a lot about you. It wasn't just because a black person was in a movie. Read up on the entire history and origins that deal with song of the south. The stories that it originated it from, the person who wrote the stories based on the African American folktales and how he faced controversy for it as well.
Where were all these people when it was time to try and save this ride? The retheming is asinine. Too many people get offended over the dumbest stuff today.
I honestly don't think this ride closed because it was apparently based on a racist movie. It was incredibly dated, and in desperate need of a retheme. I think Disney figured "Now's the time to do it" and just happened to choose Princess and the Frog as a retheme. Do I agree with the decision of that movie? No. I do not. However I rode Splash Mountain once about 7 years ago and I'm not going to ride it again, even when it reopens.
It was breaking down, time after time is that all attention and $$$$$$ was put on the streaming services instead of daily maintenance for the safety of the ride, and riders.
@@pennyhinson4949 they're doing something about it though. Whether people like their decision or not is a different story. My point is, I think that they were going to close it at some point this year anyway, even if it wasn't breaking down. I get where you're coming from though

@@aaaaaaaaaa97 I disagree, but I don't want to start an argument so I'll just leave it at that. I'll respect your opinion as long as you can respect mine
It “associated” to a film that Disney hasn’t even made available to view for over 30 years. That makes it racist? If it’s so racist…why did it take nearly 35 years to close it? What about all the people who were aware of the backstory and road the ride anyways. Are they all racist? These people don’t want racism to ever end.
You are wrong my friend, the source movie that the ride is based on is seen as a bit racist, however the ride itself moved on from the source and only recycled the non-racist animated portions... the ride itself isn't racist whatsoever and the reason it's celebrated like this is because many people grew up with Splash Mountain and created many nostalgic memories for it... Splash Mountain is also the most famous log flume in the world so there's that.
