When people in the West throw their clothes away, their cast-offs often go on a journey east, across the oceans, to India’s industrial interior. From the Kutch District of western India to the northern city of Panipat, garment recyclers turn into yarn the huge bales of clothes that come from people and places distinctly strange. With little exposure to Western culture other than the Discovery Channel, the garment recyclers rely on their imagination and the rumours that travel with the cast-offs to create an an intriguing perspective on the West.

This is heartbreaking. They spend all day surrounded by our trash and cast-offs, either wishing they could be like us or are genuinely confused by our lifestyle because of the obvious waste and greed. Most of these clothes are brand new. They are discarded to create scarcity and justify costs in Western fashion industry. Those women in the video are absolutely radiant just the way they are.

All credit goes to the Europeans and our puppet politicians to use us as slaves to serve your caucasian race. Luxury is not written in our fate. India's first PM Subhash Chandra Bose was murdered by the Britishers and they installed Gandhi and Nehru as their stooge in India. India never became independent, only the transfer of power that has happened. The Indian spirit died in 1947.

The woman in this documentary is so honest and so pure. Look at those eyes and her smile. Look at her kids. I am happy that they’re able to make a living recycling clothes. Hopeful that someday she can experience going to America. I so wanna buy her a plane ticket to America but then again, even I haven’t been there! 🤣 Sigh. ❤️

If she ever is able to travel, it’d probably better if she spends the money on a little house instead of going to America. It would be something that would last forever & won’t be half as disappointing either. The amount of going to America could buy her a little house with some left over. I’ve been to India three times & lived there as a child. My Canadian dollars weren’t much here but in India it was enough to live, eat & travel fairly comfortable.

Enjoyable to watch. It could have been the smiles of the women throughout the documentary ((radiating)); the mention of seeing English women on the Discovery Channel (like an exotic animal); or (@7:20) when the mention the rhinestone knickers that "Some poor helpless thing must be forced to wear abroad". Eye opening

7:30 "Makes me laugh imagining how people wear them, trousers that can fit 4 people inside." She also wonders what one could possibly eat to attain that size. I watched another documentary about life for garment workers in China who were similarly perplexed at the size of some clothing. They just couldn't fathom the reality. This isn't to speak ill of larger people, instead how many have never even witnessed immense people and likely marvel at the ability to access such surplus.

I think it is sad that beautiful, almost never worn clothes are intentionally shredded to be spun into yarn. Yes, the purchaser fears theft, but the deliberate tearing up regardless of condition of the garment seems a little excessive. Couldn't there be better sorting and redistribution to benefit others? For example there is currently a crisis for people of the Ukraine. Is this the "Final Resting Place" for the donated items placed in the Red Cross bins which state' this is a material recycling program? How about the Helpsey donation bins: is there some sorting that could benefit the refugees of the Ukraine with the actual clothes donated?

I'm glad im not one of those people who wears something once or twice then gets rid of it..i will wear all my clothes until I can't wear them anymore and then I'll keep them and use them in other ways like rags for cleaning and polishing or I rip them up into strips and use them in the garden for tying things up and the same with sheets towels and pillow cases etc. I feel companies and people need to get smarter in the way they make and use fashion and not land in countries like these, yes it gives people a job but i bet they get paid a very little and work extremely long hours, its just not right in my opinion !!! 😠 It makes me angry that they do this with the way the west treat their fashion 😠🇦🇺🐨🦘🇦🇺

and nothing changes. what if Panipat taxes the incoming clothes so it's no longer viable for h&M to dump their trash in India. expose the companies. reduce fast fashion production. raise the wages. otherwise nothing will change.

Our politicians are exploiting us as slaves and want us to be slaves, tell me what we Indians can do to save ourselves from these types of exploitations.

@@NativeVsColonialbecome self-sufficient as a country, non-dependant of other countries for your wealth. Become more wealthy. Create wealth without polluting the environment, keeping your natural ecosystems intact. Then make sure wealth in your country is evenly distributed between man, woman, either class, either sort of people, regardless of their belief or anything else. Ban out poverty and richess and thus ban out the root of violence, stride and unease. Then all will be good
