located in a small village in Derbyshire this was classified as a "mixed mine".
Having been worked for Lead, Barytes and mainly Fluorspar in its later years, it was originally driven as a sough level for the deeper workings.
The mine was later modified into a haulage level between 1840-1842.
A 32ft diameter water wheel was installed to power crushing rollers but sadly all traces of this have been destroyed by later workings.
Worked for mostly Fluorspar in its later years on and off from 1926 - 1965.
Working the deep rake using traditional "stoping" techniques.
In 1987 a connection to another nearby mine was accomplished and in 1990 73000 tonnes of ore was produced, the mine closed its doors for good in 1998.
Since its closure us and many like minded mine explorers have visited this place over the years, each year showing new collapses and more passages lost.
It was a unanimous decision that this would be our last visit to the place.
We decided to get our wet-suits and concentrate on the sough level seeing how far we could push.
