Just installed my new President Thomas FCC in my Jeep. First observations: 1. It's the same size as the President Andy II that it replaced. 2. It has channel changing buttons on the top of the mic. This is a real nice feature. Now I don't have to turn around to change the channel. (radio is mounted behind me). 3. AM mode has the same clarity and range as the Andy II 4. FM mode functions the same as a simplex Ham radio. 5. Automatic Squelch works in FM mode. This is the preferred carry position since it filters out the AM skip rolling in from the east coast. 6. At two miles from my house on level terrain, transmitting to a President Lincoln II, the audio is loud and clear. At three miles, some fading and loss of volume. Three miles is enough range to cover the neighborhood emergency radio net I call on Wednesday nights. I really like this radio for it's simplicity, build quality, ease of operation and audio quality on AM and FM. I would recommend this radio to someone who needs to communicate to other stations in a 2 to 3 mile radius. It's perfect for Off road vehicle to vehicle communication and local event coordination. At $99 it won't break the bank either.

So the FCC gave the USA FM right? Did they not give you anymore bands? Considering it all started over there over here now in the UK we had FM legalised in 1981 then since we've now got AM and SSB... They've also given us the Mid Band too in line with the other European Countries.. Keep up the good work Old Dude 👌📻💯👍😜

The FCC did not add anymore frequencies , or anymore wattage ... only the use of FM on the CB band .

Thanks Luke , I'm glad you liked it . In all honesty , we've had access to the FM mode on 11 meters in the U.S. for decades now. The only difference is that now it's legal for CB'ers to use it . But it's been there since the 1980s ... and in my opinion , I've never seen where it has ever been overly popular in all that time . Just people going on there for 5 minutes here & there to test it out , or screw around . So I don't think you'll see much of a change any time soon .... just another mode added .

If you tune for am mode your FM mode swr is going to be high specially if you run any power say like 50-100 watts. My Lincoln 2+ has am, fm, ssb and CW. It will do 45 to 50 Watts on am and ssb. I think its close to that on FM too. I set my radio to key up my RM Italy kl200p amplifier with single mrf 455 transistor at 60 Watts on FM and tune antenna so that way when i go back to am I dont have to worry about swr spikes I just have to recalibrate the watt and swr meter thats it.

@@RaccoonsRadioRanch The problem is/was that not to many people had radios with the FM mode. The radios I have had in the past and now my Lincoln II+. As you know the Lincoln is really a 10 M radio and has AM FM SSB and CW. On my older Magnum Delta Force it had FM but i only used it a few times because only the 10M radios and the exports had it. I don't see many truckers running out to buy one. The FM mode sounds a lot cleaner and quieter but you may not get the same distance as AM. I don't know if you may remember back when commercial AM radio was more dominant than FM. When it was quiet at night you could pick up radio stations hundreds of miles away. That was when you had the powerhouse 50,000 watts clear channel radio stations. I used to hear a Canadian station CKLW out of Windsor Ontario. They called themselves the Big 8 because they broadcast on 800 KHZ. During the day it was gone...

I've seen some people talking about using a few different frequencies for FM . Some have talked about using channels 27, 29 and 31 . I've also read that the truckers have been using Channel 29 for FM . I've also seen some people talking about using 26.805mhz for FM . Which is out-of-band , so that really doesn't matter for a legal AM/FM CB radio . But at this point I haven't been able to find a solidly agreed upon channel for a AM/FM 40 channel CB Radio to use yet .

A little off the subject, I'm a Professional Truck Driver from Northeast Nebraska. Anyway I'm driving by Flagstaff Arizona, a bad accident happened with a Semi Truck going east bound, fire on the tractor and the trailer shut down the interstate. So these clowns with these powerful radio on the east coast are jamming up the radio and I'm try to tell the east bound traffic about the accident. How can the FCC get these high power radios off the frequency?
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch 2 года назад
If you're out in Arizona and you're getting a large amount of interference from the base stations on the East Coast , that's skipland to you . So there's a really good chance that those guys on the East Coast couldn't even hear you there trying to talk . If they could have heard you trying to talk , I have no doubt that they would have let with an emergency going on .

You bring up a good point. We looked at CB Radio to use for our Subdivision but that was the reason we didn't go with it. We went with a GMRS Radio instead. All of our Residents have a radio. We do a radio check on Tuesday nights and chat for a few minutes if people want to chat. We never have that kind of issue because we transmit on a privacy tone. Also UHF is much better because you don't get skip

You might want to READ that title once again . It says America's first LEGAL CB radio .... those radios AREN'T legal to use on the CB band . Those are 10 meter Ham radios , or ... Export Radios . That are being converted to use illegally on the CB band ... NOT CB radios . Which makes this the FIRST legal AM/FM CB radio since the FCC made the change to Part 95 .... and that's what makes it "New" .
