Love Your Vids..!!! after having an old radio shack radio in my truck through highschool, as a PFc in the Marines in 96, i got me a New Cobra 29- and had the local truck stop repair guy in Virgian-emporia- work in it.. I took that radio with me everywhere for my 20 yr carear as a Marine.. I even had it in Okinawa ( ssshhh ) . I always kept it tuned and checked up on.. a few yrs ago, - I bought me a Galaxy 959B - OMG- Galaxy is wonderful- i found me a trusted radio tellecom guy here, who is a true radio guy..and has up dated the radio for me with a few mods..including the "other channels".. and i set up a base station here in the woods of Maine.. The CB radio has kept me out of many jams.. due to the traveling far abroad on a 4 day weekends.. in my truck..to get back to base safe and sound.. I can proudly say- I never got 1 ticket.. and many thanx to the radio- also i was in a snow storm along The Ohio - loaded with my kids n wife.. That Radio and a few experienced Truckers.. kept me safe durring the long treck back.. I know for a fact, we would have been straned if it wasnt for that Cobra.. your video kinda gave an old memory..many thanx.. love your videos.. have a wonderful day !!!

Thank you for your reply . I'm sorry it took me a few days to get back to you , but you covered so much in your comment that I was thinking about everything I needed to say in my reply ... lol . First , and most important is thank you so much for your service to our country . Anyone that has ever served will never know exactly how much I appreciate everything you've done for OUR country ... and for me and my family . Some people just have no idea everything you do , or go through for them . I've been involved in CB radio since I was a kid in 1978 (give or take a year or two) ... and it has done a lot for me over the years as well. Especially preventing tickets ... lol . There are a lot of great radios in this list , but to be honest I prefer the old school style radios ... like the Galaxy 959 . They have easy to use knobs , LED read out , and most importantly ... no menus . I prefer an LED read out in the mobile because I live in NY state ... and like Maine , we get some really cold winters (0 degrees and lower) , and an LCD display is no good in those kind temperatures . So in the colder months I like to use an old 1975 RCA Co-Pilot in the car . It works surprisingly well , and gets out great too . I'm really glad that you liked the video . Thank you for hanging out here at the Ranch , and for watching the video . You have a GREAT day as well .

11 meters I run a Galaxy DX 33Hp2 into a 102" SS whip with a 5" extension and 18' of Times Microwave coax, I've also run107" of 1/2" grounding braid as a counterpoise of the mount. This gives me a basic dipole on the Freightliner. I also run a Yaesu FT 991A for HF - UHF into a Scorpion 680 screwdriver and a Yaesu FTM 400 XDR for 2 meter and 70Cm. If you're out there on HF I frequent 18.130 USB, love the DX weather reports and solar cycle 25 is showing a lot of promise!

APPRECIATED. ARE THE CHANNEL FREQUENCIES FOR AM AND FM ARE SAME. WHAT ABOUT CHANNEL BANDWIDTH FOR AM AND FM. WHICH HAS A LONGER RANGE FOR COMMUNICATION AM OR FM. WHICH IS BETTER AM OR FM. DOES FM HAS LOWER NOISE AS COMPAIRED TO AM. THANKS AND REGARDS.
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch Год назад
Yes the frequencies for AM & FM are the same . I love to use all of the modes available to us AM/FM/USB/LSB ... and I spend most of my time on AM . But when comparing AM & FM against one another , I think that FM is much clearer , and stronger , with an ability to be heard further away locally than AM . Although when shooting skip , AM goes further . I hope that answers your questions . Thanks for watching the video .

Why always the Bearcat radios without FM? I have a EU President MC Kinley Modified to export version radio which has FM / AM USB / LSB and gives about 12watts SSB and 20watts on AM and FM it is my favoorite radio after the President Lincoln II+ and CRT SS 9900!!! I love my radios!😄

Are they not making the RCI 69 base no more I guess technically it's not considered a CB but apparently they switch it over to CB but is it still being made or did they stop making that too
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch Год назад
Hi Tree guy , they haven't made the RCI 69 for a couple of years now . But as you stated , that's a 10 meter radio and wouldn't have made it onto this list anyway . At this point , as far as I'm aware of . There is only 1 CB base station still being made (the Galaxy DX-2547) , and only 1 10 meter Export base station still being made (the RCI-2995) . All others , unfortunately ... have been discontinued . You're only hope of getting a base station these days is to buy one of those two ... or buy an older "Used" base station .

@@RaccoonsRadioRanch I don't know according to my research that I've come up with they just started making them like a couple years ago 2020 I think I know you can look them up and you can still buy them new now that's might be where they flooded the market with them and they're still out there

My grandpa retired from trucking back in 2018 and he said he’d give me his radio that’s just sitting in a duffle bag in his shed so I can install it in my pickup. I cannot find any information on this radio. It’s says General Washington in the bottom right corner. Do you know anything about that type of radio? If it’s any good or not.
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch 6 месяцев назад
I looked them up and they look like a pretty good radio . All I can say is put it in your truck , put a nice antenna on it , make sure your SWR is low , and try it out ... see how you like . I bet you'll be happy with it .

@@RaccoonsRadioRanch I just put it in my truck yesterday. I got a little will antenna on and bought an SWR meter from the loves that was like $20. I went out to an open field to set the SWR and I am getting a 1.9 on channel 1 and 40. When I go to 20 the needle barely moves past a 1. There were some power lines 30 yards from me. I’m not sure if it’s my cheap coax or the SWR meter. Still trying to troubleshoot.
@RaccoonsRadioRanch

@@gavinpennington407 I'd try to get the SWR a little lower if you can . If not , a 1.9 isn't the worse you can get . You can try adjust the Little Wil's stinger in it's mount .

The McKinley is a nice radio for sure, but placing it at first is a bit of a stretch for me, and no Galaxy Mobiles on the list? If President actually started releasing their europe version of McKinley here in the US which has FM, AM, and SSB id be more inclined to agree, but as of writing this im going to personally place the Galaxy DX-959 above it. Its only 50-60 dollars more, contains all the features somebody who is serious about CB needs, you don't have to fumble with stupid digital menus (personal preference) it is much more mod friendly, and without question has the best ears out of any readily available CB radio on the market. The RX sensitivity and clarity on the 959 is spectacular, it stand head and shoulders above everything else, and does even better when aligned by somebody with the right knowledge and equipment.

Gmrs???? Vox????
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch Год назад
GMRS is a NEW type of radio that transmits from 462.5625 to 467.7250 ... which is the 440mhz range of the frequency spectrum. 440mhz is so high in frequency that I've always considered it to be the least reliable portion of the bands . Without a repeater it would be useless . If someone ever had a real emergency occur , and the repeaters weren't able to be accessed , they'd be screwed because 440mhz is "Line of Sight" transmit only ... and no one would ever hear them . I personally would never rely only on GMRS in a real emergency . That's the same frequency range that CB radios were originally put on back in 1947 , and it wasn't very successful . As for VOX , that's a hands free way to transmit with your radio . You go into the settings and adjust its sensitivity , then your radio just keys up when you talk , without you having to push key up on the radio
@upariverwithoutapatel
@upariverwithoutapatel Год назад
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch yeah okay I knew what vox was I had a brain fart I guess I don't know interesting to know they used to use those frequencies for CBrs that's crazy well thanks for helping me out here I was just out of curiosity y'all have a good day thank you

OK! Things were fine until You killed my ears with the children yelling YAAAAA! For thos of us who don't know SQUAT? What the heck is SRF/SWL and some of the other buzzword? You have a vid on the buzzwords?? PLS ADVISE!
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch Год назад
It's actually an S/RF and SWR ... S/RF is a signal strength meter . On transmit it shows you the strength of your outgoing signal ... and on receive it shows you the strength of an incoming signal . The SWR stands for "Standing Wave Ratio" . An SWR meter measures the standing wave ratio between your coax and your radio . The meter will measure the amount of mismatch there might be between your radio and the antenna. CB'ers use it to adjust their CB antennas and their CB radios so they work together properly. If your SWR is high , and you continue to transmit with the radio like that ... it will eventually burn your radio up on you . So you want to keep your SWR as low as possible .
