The HR department's job is to protect company interest. Not to protect you.
@KaleRylan
@KaleRylan Год назад
EVERY department's job is to protect the company's interest rather than you. You can have the nicest manager in the world and at the end of the day, you as an employee are a problem. You're part of the expense column, and if they can figure out a way to keep your position productive while making you less expensive, company profits increase. Yay for an economic system that makes the existence of humans a problem that needs to be overcome.
@davidwuhrer6704
@davidwuhrer6704 Год назад
@@KaleRylan It's more complicated than that. Synergy effects and other things tend to make it so that you can do more with fewer employees over time, until the market is saturated, at which point you can either find or create new markets to saturate, or let people go. There are two problems with the latter: Unpaid ex-employees tend to buy less stuff on account of them having konkoney to do so, which means the demand side of the market shrinks even further, driving a vicious cycle. The other problem is that people who aren't employed find other uses for their time, like pro-active wealth distribution, creating alternative ways of distributing resources, or revolutionising politics. Sometimes all three at once. Which means keeping people busy is more important that the work getting done. Even more important than the work getting done effectively or cheaply. Fortunately, creating jobs is super easy: Just outsource them. This way, managing the employees is someone else's problem, and you can tell yourself that you are saving money by sharing the resources with other companies. Instead, You hire people whose job is toansge the outsourced work and the relationships with the companies that you outsourced the work to, while still paying for the same work. More, actually, because everytime the company you outsourced the job to cycles its employees you have to train them again for doing the work specific to your company. But in the saldo column, those outsourced job workers can be paid substantially less, and even if they end up having monopoly on knowing how stuff works at your company they won't occupy valuable management positions. You will merely be forced to renew the contract with their company, potentially at a higher price. What I'm getting at is that protecting the company's interests is not actually about increasing profits. Profits are the shareholder's interests, and nothing is more profitable than gutting a company, stripping it of all assets and selling the dead remains. For a company to stay healthy it is better to reinvest its revenue.

I think the window option sounds far more cost effective, must recommend this to HR! Interestingly, I believe that the origins of being 'Fired' and being 'Sacked' from your job are similar. Back in the days of most jobs being skilled/manual and requiring you to own all your own tools, being 'Sacked' was a less severe punishment, as you could leave with your tools in your sack and therefore likely get another job in the same trade somewhere else. Whereas, being 'Fired' meant that your employer would burn your tools, meaning without work and without the means to buy new tools you were unlikely to be able to return to that trade. This was basically the equivalent of saying "I'll see that you never work in this industry again!".
@justforever96
@justforever96 Месяц назад
Which made more sense back then because the only way you could get into a trade was to find a hot who already knew it and who agreed to take you as an apprentice and train you. His gain was that he got you as free help until your apprenticeship was over. When to became journeyman he would usually give you your own tools and set you up as junior partner to start learning the business aspect and finer secrets. It was very necessary for tradesmen to guard their secrets or they were out of work. If you were kicked out it was because you really screwed up, and he wasn't obligated to let you keep the tools he gave you and to try to start a rival business that might harm his own. And for as much as people think that sounds horrible now, it was actually a huge opportunity to be considered good enough to take on as an apprentice, it was like getting into a good school today. Without that you had no chance of ever doing anything but drudging as a peasant your whole life.

... a bit ago I was let go from a job I worked at for 10 years!! Turns out they couldn't "let me go" so they got a lawyer and during the meeting (that was much like this one) they had to give me 4 full cheques and we went "different directions" So yea "Give me money now!!" Was said.

In the States, only higher ups get severance packages. The peasants get nothing but the cardboard boxes.

As someone who has been let go, they had big men in nice clothes grab me rather tightly for no reason and make me sadly go to the elevator. They then let me go, and later they just sort of mailed me the box of my desk things.

I love these videos, and this one is particularly relatable to me as I’ve been fired from well over 50 jobs. In fact, I’ve even apologized publicly for each time I’ve been fired. Unfortunately the world hasn’t fully forgiven me but I continue to apologize because it’s super easy, barely an inconvenience! I’m sorry for the long comment, and my heinous acts.

He had a very good job at naming things but they fired him for naming a fragrance "House of BO." Apparently those two letters stand for Body Oder, someone decided.

The classic "how about no severance and instead we just commit defenestration" tactic. Always see that in the workforce.

The one time I worked in an office, they were going out of business and I was fortunate enough to be in the first round of lay-offs. They were so disorganised that they accidentally paid everyone's severance twice. Even though we'd been set on fire and tossed out a window we still had to go in for our annual review someone decided, and when we did one charred employee informed the HR twit of the error in the severance pay. It just happened to be the day that said twit had his received his orders to be tossed out the window so his response was, "I don't care!" Ironically we were given raises at that review despite not working for the company anymore and I was annoyed that was going to be reflected in our severance package. Never worked another office job again.

You left out the part where they ask if he was rich and if he said yes, then he gets extra money for being fired, but if he said no, then he doesn't get the extra money because he's poor so he doesn't need the extra money like a rich person does.

Thank you Ryan. You've inspired me to quit before they can fire me. They'll never do it in a politely absurdist way, and this is the only way I want it now. If they aren't gonna offer a severance package in this economy, they might as well yeet me out of a window.

in my experience they usually put it "we are terminating your position" to just...further take away the humanity from the process. they aren't even acting on YOU but your position. they have terminated your position and as such, of course, you can't stay employed because you no longer have a position.
