On the 31st of July 2011, a re-floating attempt was going to be made on the stranded MT Phoenix tanker ship that ran aground on a bed of rocks at the beach in of Sheffield Beach, Ballito and in the province of Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa. The company SMIT Amandla provided the salvaging tugboat that was going to be involved. We were in spring-tide and with a favourable, preferably choppy sea, they may just be able to pull it off. Most of the bigger salvaging work has been done and pollutants such as oil and fuel were removed from the ship. There was a lot of excitement about this ship and this re-floating attempt drew a huge crowd of people that also used the opportunity to make of it a Sunday outing.
