The NPC's (at least those who know about the existence of players) use the term "player" to refer to what to their eyes are these superior quasi-divine beings on the level of Momonga. They don't know they were originally characters in a game or Momonga's true nature. They just know some beings that identify as "players" that were almost gods and created them exist and that Momonga is one of them and that he's trying to contact any of them who were also transported to this new world from their original world (the game). They don't know they were characters in a game themselves, and they just think that their memories from the game are simply their memories of their previous lives in their original world and they're not aware of the term NPC.

The reason Narbe and Ains agree on the fact that nphirea balear is dangerous is because being able to use any magic items allows him to use every single of the strongest items in the world, for exemple the staff of Ains Ooal Gown which can normally only be used by Ains himself as he was the leader of the guild, this staff is stronger than most god tier items so being able to use it against Ains himself represent a huge threat to Nazarick

The guild Ainz Ooal Gown's status within Yggdrasil is never directly stated in the anime, but in the LN, it was stated that they were fairly well-known within their server, but were not the strongest; their main claim to fame was Nazarick itself being the most well-defended guildhall that withstood an assault from a multi-guild alliance of over 1000 players. Additionally, despite being the guild leader, Momonga was not the strongest player in Ainz Ooal Gown, or even the strongest mage. The strongest player was Touch Me, Sebas's creator, who earned the title of World Champion in a player tournament, while the guild's strongest mage was Ulbert Alain Odle, Demiurge's creator. Momonga was chosen as the leader because of his keen tactical abilities and because he had a subdued personality that would consider circumstances from multiple perspectives and allowed him to mediate disputes among the stronger personalities in the guild (most notably between Touch Me and Ulbert, who would often clash due to Touch Me roleplaying a hero and Ulbert roleplaying a villain). Ainz Ooal Gown was originally a guild of nine players called Nine's Own Goal lead by Touch Me, but his disputes with Ulbert nearly lead to the guild splitting up, so the group decided to disband Nine's Own Goal and form Ainz Ooal Gown with three more members and Momonga as their leader.

The "former" NPC's know that "they were created by x people" (who they call their Supreme Beings, or the Ainz Ooal Gown guild members) and that some people had a "player" designation and others did not. They don't fully understand what that "player" designation means, but it is touched upon in one or two places a bit later on, and it is fascinating how it is realistically rationalised from their perspective. Also, just because they use "game" terms, DO NOT make the mistake in assuming that means they understand they were in a game. "To them" those game terms like "player" "NPC" "class" etc. are just a regular part of the naming system of their universe. It isn't a "game" term "to them". About Ainz's Yggdrasil strength, you have the wrong impression. It's a game with a level cap. So there are a shite ton of players also at the level cap of 100, and who are also very strong. Ainz is absolutely fairly skilled, but not a true top-tier like his guildmate Touch Me who was one of the world champion fighters. It was the guild as a whole that was one of the most powerful, not Ainz as an individual. Ainz's strength is in knowledge and understanding, not raw skill. So when he is considering other players as a potential threat he is absolutely right in the risks.

He is strong because he knows 700 spells, while other players know around 300 - 400. 17:00 - 17:35 - The thing is, that every potion they have is blue, and no one has seen red (because it's impossible to make, only players had them...). "Gods" are a deep lore of Overlord, which isn't really mentioned in the anime adaptation, but personally I think it might be a bit TOO EARLY to explain that part. 23:30 - It was explained before, you seem to missed it. They hate humans, because human races in YGGDRASIL were hunting non-human races (The whole guild of Ainz Ooal Gown, including NPCs were hunted just for being a non-human race (NPC weren't hunted because they were inside, but you get what I mean)). 30:40 - No, Nfiria isn't considered fearsome by others and he can't use any magical item. If I'm not mistaken, he can just use more than the others because he's a talent holder (think of it as a higher magical affinity, like a skill that was given when they were born / skill that was easier to study and develop)

They boy is dangerous because he can use ANY magic item. May be he can use god level items, like the Staff of Ainz of another magic weapon capable to kill a player. A item from a fantasy game in the real world can be scary.

They do use the terms "NPCs" and "players", but they don't really understand what they mean. From their point of view, NPCs are the “children” of “players” a.k.a. “supreme beings” , which they adopted by listening to dialogues between players in the past. And yes, they still have memories of their days in the game. This will be shown later, so no details.

The idea of Nphirea Balear being dangerous makes alot of sense being able to use ANY MAGIC ITEM i believe that is meant to be literally any magic item regardless of costs or required prerequisites to wield the item. Imagine he got a hold of the ring of Ainz Ooal Gown or the Staff of Ainz he could effectively go anywhere in Nazarick and possibly have the power to defeat Ainz himself. I dont know if the staff still has the ability to rewrite NPC settings but if it did he could take control of everything Ainz has.

The NPCs are “semi-aware” They know that players exist and that they are different form themselves somehow but it’s a bit twisted. They think of the players from the Guild Ains Ooal Gown as Gods(because they were the ones that created all the NPCs of Nazarick) and other players as entities of a similar level to their Gods. 10:05 good job and good recognition. There are a few spots where there are discrepancies between the speaker and the listener, such as songs. the bartender works with the guild to an extend, in the LN, he essentially was trying to coax momonga to go to a different room - the community room where all the ppl sleep in instead of single private rooms, because he would had more chances to make connections, as a bronze, with other bronzes. but with them secluding themself like that that would be harder to do, because the keep thinks now that momonga is just a richboy who doesnt want to become a proper adventurer, he wants more money for the private room - the community one would been cheaper. adventurer in that world aint like what ya think they be in a dnd setting or such, not romantic at all. its a profession. hard work. ya write reports when ya come back etc. momonga is lv99 in the game, and the leader of his guild. but there were many lv99 in that game, as getting level ups was very easy - so was loosing levels. intentionally or not. as game was very complex and ppl were experimenting a lot with their builds. for that matter momonga was setup mostly as an Rollplay chara instead of minmax pvper pker etc he is an overlord. a very rare elder lich class, specialized in casting fuck ton of spells he has like over 800 spells memorized or such and his main deal is summoning magic, he essentially plays the game mor elike an RTS then an RPG...

The reason the dumb thug picked a fight with the plate armor Giant was that he saw he was a coppper plate and thus likely not to actually have power, probably just has a rich dad in his eyes.

The reason he sounds dangerous is because normally there are various restrictions to magic items. Such as one item might only be usable by a warrior, another only usable by a level 90+ player, or another might only be usable during a full moon that occurs on the winter solstice. Nphirea can use any magic item no matter the restriction which makes him highly dangerous with the right items in the wrong hands.

Part of what makes Overlord fun to watch are these inconsistencies. As you go more and more things will be made clear but other things will remain Out Of Reach. If you want clarification read the books. You're still going to have to read through the whole set. I will also say the books are way darker. Vienna actually cleaned a few things up for the more sensitive folks. The more you walk the more you'll understand.

The red hair adventure girl was scared of the pharmacist old lady, because she was just at the second lowest tier in the adventure guild ranking, but the old lady has been making magic potions for years but also she needs to learn magic to be able to create magic potions, so overall power, the old lady was stronger than her and the moment she said that someone could kill for that red potion, the red hair girl was like "oh sheet, I'm inside of the bear's cave" 😅 If I remember correctly, when that weird girl took the Crown of Wisdom from the Shaman Princes, she started pooping all over the place 😅

Regarding Ainz's position and strength the reason he was the leader of the guild was because everyone liked him and didn't have any issues with him compared to the other candidates that others had slight issues with leading. He was also a tactical genius when it came to combat and was highly adaptable so he was the best choice as guild leader. As for his strength Ainz was a upper middle tier player who chose to roleplay instead of min-maxing. This meant there were a ton of players that were stronger than him, though he was well known in the game in pvp for fighting powerful players and losing against them just to challenge them a second time and beat them easily. This is again because he's a tactical genius and highly adaptable with his build allowing him to figure out his opponents and prepare a counter against them. This worked in the game but in the New World he doesn't know if he can die and be revived in addition even if he can be revived revival comes at the cost of levels and he doesn't know if he can level up or even how long it would take to regain the experience. This means other players are a significant threat to him and while he might be able to beat most players given his tactics and adaptability, if he goes against anyone with a top tier build he's basically dead. Examples of that are Ainz was never able to beat Touch Me who was one of the 9 World Champions or Ulbert who was the strongest combat mage in the game.

While Ainz Oal Gown was one of the best guilds in the game, they weren't the top guild, mostly due to them being very picky with how many members to allow and many players, Ainz included, have more of a "roleplay" or gimmick build, rather than one purely optimized to fight other players.

Yes that is exactly why hair over eyes guy is dangerous and special. Nobody, not even Ainz can use any magical item without restriction. He alone can. It's a very good talent.

The same applies to that new land's living creatures (from humans to monsters) For all intents and purposes, you should think on that wold as a real world with game-like mechanics as part of how everything works there

the girl with Ainz-sama is Nabe Gammba one of the battle maids, she was with Ainz-sama when he was testing if he could use weapons in his room back at the start. Momanga was not the strongest player but he was pro at planning and explotiong others weakspots to win. the Guild Ainz ooal Gown was a 'Evil' guild due to them being non-human players and they were the top guild in that regaurd.

Yes, they're all aware about what happened in the game but not exactly. In their knowledge it's never a game. For them Ygdrasil is their world not a game. They all know about Momonga and other players in the guild, that's why they called Momonga Supreme Leader because in the game Momonga is the guild leader. For them All the Supreme beings (Player in the guild) is something like a god who created them and so they also recognized other players in the game as someone who also equivalent of gods. They use term "player" but they didn't really know what that means except for someone who like a god equivalent of Momonga and the others. They also aware of event that took place during the game but in their pov they're all just living like what they did right now and not some soulless puppet.

It will be somewhat explained later but you can guess from the fact that Ainz is very good at role-playing (as in performing in-character for his undead Overlord) his playstyle is just that: he cosplays an elder lich, a dark magician that spends his life and afterlife learning various spells. This makes his strength in the game technically C tier (from F to S. S tier players are competitive min-maxers that abuse every mechanic they can to squeeze the win in every situation, they play to win), but with his accumulated wealth of knowledge and items he is in B-tier in a random encounter and S tier if he can get intelligence on the opponent, plan ahead and counter his enemy. In this regard Ainz is a model DnD wizard with one of the thickest spellbooks there is.

Ainz was at max level in the game but so were thousands of other players, his guild mate TuchMe won a world champion tournament, but Ainz is more of a role play build.

An important thing to remember is, regardless of how 'aware' ex-NPC's are now, they will use whatever terminology that Momonga chooses, even if they don't understand all the implications of it. I highly doubt many of them think of themselves as NPC's or worry about the mechanics of their old game too hard, they are very much focused on the present and probably assume that Momonga is using some esoteric terminology used by the supreme beings.

Nabe and Ainz said the pharmacist's kid sounded dangerous because his TALENT enables him to USE ALL MAGIC ITEMS. That inplies Magic items that have restrictions. (IMAGINE he gets a Broken cheat item with CRAZY restrictions but he can use it)

I am not going as far as to explain What... but overlord is quite known for skipping a lot of the explanations from the novels since it is too much talking if they do that so they leave it to the viewers to get a lot of different information from context clues... therefore a lot of viewers finish watching the show without understanding what is going on at many points in the story... also having an idea of how games worl helps with those context clues...

The innkeeper charged them more and upfront when he saw they were the lowest rank of adventurer. At that rank they are often broke and die on missions so you don't want to front them anything. They also tend to be rowdy when successful and damage things.

Momonga did not pay more for being from the guild... he payed more because he said it was 2 people... but not too much (which pissed the attendant off) because it was cheaper cause he said no food...

having talent "can use all magic item" is kinda OP, cause many magic item actually have so many restriction. for example staff of ainz ooal gown, the one that can use that staff is the guild leader of ainz ooal gown, so for nfirea who has "can use all magic item" talent, he can bypass the restriction.

ainz is in terms of strength not even in top 5 of his own guild, but he is still very strong and max level. back in yggdrasil times there was a boss class that could wipe out entire guilds, (world destroyers) but thats only in the web novel, so its not canon

This bar scene is kinda like with bandits in skyrim. "Hey, you see that guy that walks in armor made from demon hearts, that just kill a dragon with bare hand, eat his soul, and summon a demon only to give him some dragon bones and scales? Lets mug him".

Just want to point out that guy picking a fight makes sense from their perspective. It doesn't matter how big or well equipped Ainz looks as Momon, what matters is he's a copper plate adventurer. From other's perspectives they see this guy walk in who based on his copper rank is not much stronger than a normal person but looks rich and just throws money around buying expensive equipment that he doesn't know how to use. So to them he isn't strong, just became an adventurer, and is tossing money around to look cool. It's insanely rare basically unheard of by most people for someone that's already strong becoming an adventurer. It's either you start as an adventurer and get stronger over time earning a higher and higher rank or you became strong outside of being an adventurer and work for some group/organization such as Gazef who works for the Kingdom. In the New World it'd be weirder if someone didn't try and start something with Momon(Ainz).

@G.O.T Games Momon was a role player that also had very good guild and items - so he was top percentile player like rest of his guild - for example Touch Me had World Champion title/class and Yggdrasil there were 9 realms, so there could have been only 9 players with this title. He was a good player, not the best but was doing end content with his Guild - he is cautious because he builds his character as Overlord so he was choosing lore friendly skills and items and not top PVP skills - so he is hard to kill but if there is a player of similar skill as him in the new world but PvP oriented he will be fudged xd

The ''players'' are beings of incredible power, truly gods that can play as they want in Yggdrassil, sush is their powers that they created us, a group of players called Ains Owl Gown, they are our gods that care for us and for that we will be forever loyal to them, even fighint those other players(gods) if our creators demands it. That's basically how the NPC sees the players in the game, to them, every terminology used by the players is just ''word of god'' so, they use it without the context of a videogame, you will see later how they know words from our real world but not the real meaning, so they just guess based on the context of the conversation, its very funny how simple things are biblical to them, really

If you ask why the little guy tries to bother Ains in the tavern, as you saw, Ains identifies himself as a bronze adventurer, which makes the poor guy think that he is someone he can bother for being the newbie and supposedly weak for being that adventurer level.

I think the potion part is a more simple thing. They only knew about low level potions, but top level players would have high level stuff. To normal people because of their extreme effects those potions are like god's work and people - especially in older times - like to create those type of comparisons like the "color of God's blood".

What's up friend, thanks for reacting to this anime As always, I will try to clarify some things trying not to spoil and using information that is in the Overlord Manga and Light Novel. It first becomes clear to us that the Slane Theocracy squad weren't immediately executed, rather they were first tortured for information, but sadly they went a little too far with the torture and many ended up dying or completely losing their sanity. Ainz has access to resurrection magic, but for now he is afraid to try using it on the prisoners, because he fears that their bodies will disappear and regenerate in the Theocracy, like they would in a game. He doesn't want to risk being found out by the theocracy. In the initial dialogue between Ainz and Albedo, where she tells him that she doesn't mind that he changed his programming to "being in love", we can see that Albedo is not as loyal to her creator (Tabula Smaragdina) as the rest of the NPCs, who always put their own designer first and then the rest of the "gods" or "supreme beings" like Ainz and the other members of the Guild. This something unique to her and will have implications later. Ainz feels very guilty about Albedo, because he trusts her precisely because she is obliged to "love" him and that is why she can never betray him. Ainz feels that he has somehow chained her, but since the situation is so dangerous and strange he really has no choice but to take advantage of it. This will often cause Ainz to let Albedo get away and forgives her more than others NPCs. Shalltear is programmed by her creator to pretend to have a large bust, but in reality they are padding and everyone knows it. I think it's already clear to you, but that's what Albedo means when she tells her "what you show may look good, but the reality is..." Actually the creator of the vampire was the most depraved of Ainz's friends and when he designed it he took the opportunity to make a creature that embodied almost all of his fetishes. That's why she's so perverted. But Peroronchino was also a great power player and he designed Shalltaer to be very formidable in combat. The NPCs of Nazarick do not understand the “Players” for what they really are. The Slime called Herohero, which you saw in chapter 1, once complained in front of the NPCs while chatting with Ainz about how his tests at the doctor indicated that his liver was a little bad and that he had to take care of his health, but as In the minds of the NPCs Hereorhero is a Slime devoid of organs, they did not understand this and tried to give it a complex theological meaning or deduce deep truths. In Overlord there will always be fun mix-ups like that. By putting on the Magic Armor, Ainz is able to overcome the limitations of his character and use weapons or melee, but he cannot use his magic unless he takes it away from him. However, this does not apply to some of his Undead Skills. The woman who is escorting him is one of the Battle Maids we saw in the first chapter. There are no human NPCs in Nazarick except for one (and he doesn't even appear in the novel yet). Momonga was a level 100 player and had specced his character to be able to use more kinds of spells than any other player. He did not have a try-hard pvp build so to speak and more of a roleplaying one. He's a very strategically minded player but there were definitely stronger people in the game than him and with more pvp experience.

Regarding how strong Momonga was. He was max level, but there were many other players who were also max level. In addition, his build is not the optimal, as he mostly wanted to learn as many spells as possible, pushing the limit of how many spells a single player can learn. So, he has a large amount of very varied spells, so he can adapt to situations. But unless he is very prepared for a specific player, he can lose, especially if that player was specialized for PVP. They refer to the players that way because Ains refer to them that way. it's a mimetism effect really. Think about it that way... If you know nothing about a topic, but someone who knows a lot about said topic call something related to that topic in a certain way, you would do too since they clearly know what they say. That's what's happening with them. 2- He doesn't have to pay more because he work at the guild... He has to pay more because he is a copper adventurer. Adventurers usualy rent a room for weeks at time and they have a lot of stuff to store. It means that, when to go on a quest to slay a monster or explore a ruin or gather ressources, that room won't be available for other costumers. But that alone wouldn't explain the rise in price, right? What would increase it is the risk the inn keeper take keeping the room for them. They are copper adventurers, begginers. There is a high chance they might die during a quest, which means the room is a net loss for him during that time. It will also mean throwing away that adventurer's belonging, which isn't always that easy to do. Some of those items could require specific way of disposing of them, not just throwing them in the trash. That's another expense that will be a net loss. All of that explain why copper adventurers have to pay more for a room. 3- The guy picking a fight with Ains isn't as stupid as you might think. Remember, he is only a copper adventurer, he didn't make his marks so no one know his real strength yet. Is he a newbie with deep pocket trying to appear more menacing just to climb the ranks faster? He might be big and strong, but what about his skills, are they as good as his? That guy wasn't a copper adventurer after all, he already proved himself capable. That's why he didn't hesitate to try and bully Ains, it could really have worked and, truth be told, in the majority of cases, it would have. 4- Hum, what Nphear said wasn't as bad as you made it sound. You react like that because you saw his grand-mother's reaction to the potion. In reality, what hesaid is true. He was really looking for a new escort while hewas collecting herbs. The situation was just the perfect coincidence to actually ask for Ains's help and, at the same time, try to find some more infos on those potions. So no, it wasn't BS, it was about 80% true. He just lied by omission, but the lie was still far from the primary reason he approached him.

About the Nazarick NPCs hating humans - the anime doesn't touch on it directly iirc, but it's related to their memories pre-isekai. They are the guardians of the Tomb of Nazarick (the guild base) which we saw being attacked in ep1 by a large group of players - most of which were human or humanoid. The Nazarick guild had a requirement that the members be non-humanoid, and there was a lot of in-game enmity between races, as we saw when Touch Me defended a lower leveled Momonga. During that guild base raid, the players made it to the 8th floor before being wiped out. Which means they defeated (presumably killed) the floor guardians up to level 7. They were resurrected in-game by paying a considerable fee, but they do remember that event vaguely from their perspectives. Humanoids are scary enemies that don't revere the Supreme Beings, even if most of them in this new world are weak.

By the way, the general dislike of most NPCs of the guild towards people also makes sense, but the explanation will contain spoilers. So just know that they all have a reason to hate people.

Babe is one of the maids, he needed to take somebody but didn't want to take Albedo for obvious reasons so he chose the best humanoid alternative.

Npihirea is one of the most dangerous people. By my own opinion. The ability to use all magic items is to broken, imagine if he used Ains' personal equipment that even NPCs can't use. (don't give him a weapon that can destroy the world because he can use it without difficulty)

The NPCs are not really aware of the fact it was a game at this point. basically, they've picked up on Ains's terminology when he's talking. So when he referred to players they don't know what that means except that he uses that term to describe, among others, their creators. in the novels there is a short part where Albedo first hears the term and asks in a slightly confused manner: Pu-lay-ers? she doesn't actually know the term aside from the fact that Ains uses it.

Yggdrasil as a game have been running for a long time. As someone who played a lot of MMO, at that span of time, I'm pretty sure it's not just 50 people who can reach the top. There are probably thousands of possible maxed out players with possible better gear or min maxed stat. Heck, with the game I'm playing now, I myself have 3 maxed out characters.

What the anime doesn't show is that Albedo, Demiurge and another NPC shown later have high intelligence settings and their descriptions basically say they are geniuses and since their settings and descriptions have become reality that is an issue. This issue causes Ains to remove books from the guilds library so those three cannot read them. The guild members didn't want empty books in the library, so they copy pasted whatever they could find in them, from cooking books, to history, to novels and sci-fi and even religious texts, but also science. Those three getting their hands on science texts might end up with them actually being able to recreate the technology and Ains really doesn't want them to create ABC weapons.

Remember - Momon is has a Copper Plate. He is literally considered 'bottom rung' adventurer. The reason he got charged more is that he is being viewed as 'cannon fodder', given the armor he is wearing looks 'expensive', often viewed as "Some newbie trying to look good, but will die cause he is a newb." The red vial is a health potion, like the one he used with the girl he gave in a previous episode, which is out of the norm in this world. Nabe is Naberal Gamma - one of the Battle Maids of Nazarick, under Sebas Tian (a play on 'Sebastian'). All of the residents of Nazarick consider humans as 'bugs' again, part of the motiff of the Tomb of Nazarick's guild, Ains Ooal Gown, of their guild members aren't human. Momonga is not the top tier player, his guild over all was top tier over all. Irasshimase is a common Japanese saying of 'Welcome' or 'Welcome to our establishment'. Granny explains that healing potions, even with their best ability to make them, are always 'blue'. None of their methods makes the superior healing potions, which is what that one is. A potion that looks red is like having 'the blood of the gods' to heal them. Basically, something that is like the color of blood, but heals, like it is god's power infused into it.
