These D dont hit their ceiling until they turn 25-6. Look at Hanifin, 5th overall pick & last 2 years he started to show the pedigree & become a #2 or #3 Dman. We have cap space coming out our ying yang, to take a 3 year flyer at 4.5 mill on a 23 year old 8th over all pick for a 2nd rounder is a no brainer. I'd do it for Holloway too. & I wouldnt really worry too much about retaliation from Oilers, they resign Drysaddle & McBaby, they wont be in the rebuild phase for a long long time.

Though TBH I'm not too familiar with the Flames farm system and who may or may not be ready to play. Carolina didn't fair to well with their offer for Kotenimi and the Oilers deeply regreted offer sheeting Penner. You also have to remember who they were playing with. Holloway in particular thrived playing with Draisatil, he didn't do much when he wasn't on his line. Go ahead, watch the playoffs again - you have a Draisaitl on your team? DIdn't think so. Because our owner, Peter Pocklington, the guy that sold Gretzky, pretty much went bankrupt, and there was no 'billionaire' willing to buy and keep the Oilers in Edmonton. To save the franchise - THIRTEEN local businessmen bought the team, including Todd McFarlane (Spawn creator) and they basically ran the team 'bare-bones' for six years until Daryl Katz came along. That means - NO FARM TEAM. Jeff Deslauriers, one of our young and up-coming goalies, played on SIX DIFFERENT teams in one year - being loaned from one team to the next, as was all our 'farm' hands. It's called our decade of Darkness, and the fans here supported the team even though we could barely ice a team good enough to compete in the AHL. So check your 'facts' before you preach on stuff - you team would've folded like cheap tent, pretty much ANY U.S. based team would of.
