Owned a 2000 E55 for about a little over a year now. 25k miles daily driving and went into it with no expectations but man…what a car. Currently restoring mine then will move on to a manual swap and supercharger
I picked one up for my daily in 2018 with 60k miles. Looked for lowest mileage I could find, and bought with out looking at in person from a different state; had it shipped. My favorite car I’ve owned out of 30 or so cars. Expect around $3k a year in service costs. Good news is now insured as a collector which saved me $1000 a year in insurance.
@@revelersridge136 what insurance company are you using and what did you value your car at? I have put on around 750 miles per year over the last four years of owning mine. I hate paying for coverage when I hardly drive it.
I've had my 99 E55 for many years. Paid $8,000 Australian Dollars for it, and driven it a lot. It now has 382,000klms on it, and apart from the drive shaft and half shafts now being buggered i've never spent a cent on it, it hasn't missed a beat. Unfortunately the 99 C43 i have owned for even longer has been damaged... That one was in perfect condition especially the interior...
@@cosmic_gate476 Don’t take it that much, Merc still doing a good job in exterior designing like the new c63 (btw BMW doing good in interior) but truly rubbish is in the engine downsizing sh💩💩🤮 and also the ugly low quality plastic in the interior of the Merc .. oh hell no
Such an underrated and overlooked car. This is one of the last of the Brunno Sacco era MB's, and FAR more reliable and easier to maintain than every E-class AMG that came afterwards.
Always nice to see another W210 E55 video! Thanks for posting👌👍 I've owned my '98 Obsidian Black model for 7 years now. I've owned lots of different types of cars over the 30 years I've had my license, and the E55 is here to stay 😊
@@revelersridge136 seems about right, I'm adding up the deferred maintenance and it's definitely getting up there! Typical maintenance though, motor mounts, spark plugs (16!) And valve cover gaskets
Had the privelege of growing up in a 2001 E55. Learned to drive in it and it has been in the family since 2008. Just hit 200k miles and still treats us well to this day. The pneumatic door/trunk locks and the rear window regulators are the worst maintenance items on these.
Great review @SamCarLegion! and the intro with Modern Talking's Brother Louie... amazing. This is a car from the end of an era when MB was "the best or nothing". After that they wanted to look more like BMWs up until now . Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of MB and a '19 C43 owner. I was a BMW fan boy from the 80's to early 2000's. not now... Anyways, this car represents what a true luxury sedan is built for. Speed and COMFORT! in these current era, everything luxurious tend to become sporty (unless you buy a mayback or a rolls Royce). So, I totally agree that the modern sport sedans tend to ride horribly (most part due to the crappy run-flat tires), but never like they used to ride in the era of the Formula 1 pace car of the 90's and 2000's you just reviewed. and those monoblock wheels: legendary! Great job @SamCarLegion! P.S. I could notice a C43 blasted by you on the highway in the video. hahahahaha.
I’ve always loved this W210 E 55 AMG. When I was about 14 and this car was brand new I remember watching Korn driving a black 1999 E 55 AMG with chrome dipped AMG monoblock wheels in their music video for Got The Life. I wasn’t really a fan of their music until I saw them riding around in this car. This was also the final car to be manufactured in the independent AMG Affalterbach factories before Daimler-Chrysler completely absorbed AMG and shifted production to their own factories. If I could find a nice gently used 2000 - 2002 E 55 AMG I would be so happy 😀. There’s just something about those bug eyes/goggle headlights and AMG body kit styling that is timeless. The closest I came to enjoying this car was when I got Gran Turismo 2 for Christmas in 1999. Now that I’m an adult I want one for real. 😅
Bought a '99 for a measly 3 grand back in 2019 to replace my E39 540i M-sport that got totaled. I was shocked at how much I ended up loving this car, and it's relative rarity in the U.S. makes me love it even more.
@@bazosmarek7981 E39 feels sportier and tighter. More driver-centric. The E55 feels a bit more plush. More comfortable. The W210 feels a bit more expensive. Makes nice chunky sounds when you open/close doors or press buttons. I overall prefer the E39 platform over the W210 (I still actually have an E39 528i wagon), but I'll keep this E55 probably forever.
I've had my E55 for 3 years and every time I get back in it after driving something modern I'm amazed how well built it is. Modern cars just feel so light and plastic in comparison (but weigh nearly twice as much lol)
The w210 is a classic. I owned a w210 E320 and E430, were fantastic. I now have a w208 CLK55, which has the same engine and everything in the coupe. The last of the classic and best vehicles made.
I have a 01 w210 e55 and a 05 e55 w211 I sold the w210 but guy I sold it to had to leave out of state for work so he asked if I’d be interested and sure enough I got it back, love these cars
@@raycroal you just saved me a ton of money thank you, I would look online and see clk 430 but rebadged with amg and sport emblems or 55 emblems it was hard to tell what was real
@@SamCarLegion fun fact that center screen in between the gauges allows your to do a couple of things like reset the oil and even check the oil level on the screen, these cars were very much so ahead of their time
I own a 1998 W210 E55 (yes they do exist before 1999 despite what all the RU-vid presenters claim but only in Japan / Europe). Less than 100k km on the clock, absolutely great car. Purists say it is not a classic merc but I disagree with that.
PS: If i remember well ..at least for europe was produced also a version with supercharger, a lot more powerful. BUT.. the marvelous engine which comes in w210 and w124 was.. om606. Did not sounds as that superb AMG, but is a MIRACLE of engine, VERY light and holding HUGE amount of power in stock form (except turbo and pump head). With an investment of few thousand you could get some 6-700bhp from that FANTASTIC diesel engine which makes stock 6000rpm with no problem. I still searching for w210 with om606 turbo engjne, but chances to find one at cheap become more and more thin..
Carrinhooooo..... poxa,aí dói néeee.trocar por qual então????pensai por qual trocar, daqui a seis meses me fala se descobriu...rsrsrsr Já estou a 10 yers...tentando achar algo pra substituir.....😮
Is there any trouble with side winds at high speeds (>150 km/h) like with all others W210. I had a e280 with this problem and read many reviews stating that also.
I owned an 03 SL55 AMG for 14 years.Bought it in 06 with 24k miles for $52k.Hell of a deal and it was flawless. After 10 years it was an absolute money pit. ABC suspension is a NIGHTMARE and EXTREMELY expensive to repair. It had numerous other issues.Hydraulic top problems, vaccum lock issues, trunk leaks and the list goes on and on. After 14 years I had spent over $55k on repairs alone using a private MB factory trained mechanic. Great car overall and an amazing daily driver if you can afford to keep it on the road.
@@curtisboyce3849 I'm a pilot not a grease monkey.I made my previous statement to warn people who THINK they can afford these cars because they are so cheap now. They are cheap to buy not cheap to own.
w210 e55 have none of those problem you have, that's why some people prefer it over 211 e55 which have all those toy except the hydraulic top. 210 e55 surely is a cheap to own AMG, even the mpg on this thing is not bad at all(compare to the supercharge successor). Personally I only spend around 2k to replace various things in my first year ownership , since then, it's been 7 years, nothing need to be fixed except fluid and brake. My average annual ownership after the first year is around 300usd, mainly used to refresh some suspension part (they are not bad, every car I owned get suspension refresh gradually as a preventative maintenance as it's always neglected by previous owner and I personally don't want to do it all once). Except the exterior AMG part, mechanically, 210 AMG part is dirt cheap, nothing special, share almost 90% of the part with normal 210.
Something doesn't add up here. Model shown with prefacelift exterior and interrior, which came only with older m119 5.0 engine, and been indexed as e50 amg and been released only up to 1997year. Or there's chance that there was models released with prefl body, but fl engine and fl badges in 1999 year?
they stop the e50 modal in first half of 1998, and start to put m113 inside. The facelift come after 2000. So they made preface lift e55 for around 1.5 year
Quem poder ....que compre em quanto é tempo,o segredo desse mercedes é o câmbio....compra e faz o câmbio.entao teras para mais 20 yers... Esse carro é a receita certa de uma maquina que serve o homem.
Nobody forgot that car. What are you babbling about?? It's a highly appreciated and sought after AMG Mercedes. Not underrated or overlooked or forgotten. Is that something you hipsters just make up to get people to watch your videos or something?
