This song is amazing. My friend passed away a couple years ago and wanted this song to be played at his funeral whenever the day came he died. We oned-up his request. The Format was in town the day of his funeral and we got them to perform this song at his service. The best experience of my entire life.
This song is one of the few that i can listen to over and over and over and over and never get tired. It's such a beautiful song and such an inspiring story.
So happy you had Nate & Sam play this song at your friends funeral. That surely has to be a great memory. The good news is Nate's Dad is at all of his shows in the Phoenix area and doing well. One show in recent memory at the Marquee, Nate said my Fuc_ _ _ g parents are here tonight in only Nate's style.
i'm so glad that they performed the song for your friend.. their live renditions of the song make you want to cry, even more so than the version on the CD.
I really love this rendition... truly. I've loved this song for many years, but I only discovered this recording a couple months ago. Thank you for posting it, and sharing what must have been a very special session.
@Assaultpredator 100% true story. I am from AZ, which is where Sam and Nate are from. They went to a high school that was only miles away from mine. My buddy Richie was good friends with Nate's ex-gf and that was how we were able to get a hold of them. They just so happened to play a concert here in Phoenix the day before his funeral service, and had an extra day to kill in AZ before heading out to New York. They decided to come to the service on their day off and play this for him. Amazing
Song was the "Prequel" to his new song with band Fun. - Just listen to the lyrics. Here he talks about wanted to get out of the desert and well... listen to the song "Some Nights". You'll understand...
That is a beautiful story you told acstcgutr4life..It sounds so amazing of them to have done such a nice thing..makes you love them even more GREAT song by the way..
This has to be one of my favorite songs. Its such a beautiful, yet sad song. Something about the song helps release all the anger and lack of hope in me... the song was played at my buddys funeral(he died overseas), and shortly after my friend died, my dads brother was diagnosed with liver failure... i buried two of the handful of guys that have always had my back. This song helps me wash every pain away.
I used to have a version of this song where he held out "been" before he says hard. It was supposedly the (demo) version. But I no longer have it, and the other versions are just not the same... If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it :D
