How does a felon on Parole get to come in the Uni campus without being background checked?? I guess had the Uni done that A) He wouldn’t be able to come in and around Lauren’s dorm B) The Uni’s decision of not letting a felon on the campus, would have alerted Lauren about his shady past. Shameless University cops. Rest in peace, Lauren. The system failed you. This murder could have been so easily prevented. I hope the parents can find some resemblance of strength to move on with their lives.
It's American cops, Canadian security is tighter, more regulated. However we have our flaws but things like this won't fly for our unarmed canadian security. A flaw in American security, a flaw in American training.
I've also have family and friends in American law enforcement and enforcement in general, they visit Canada and I show them the difference in training, also the punishment for breaking strict Canadian laws and policy. $5000 fine and jail time for driving without car insurance, Texas cries when they RECENTLY weren't allowed to text and drive. Canada dealt with that before smartphones and internet data plans were relevant. USA allows crimes like this and cries victim.
We don't want dead bodies, we don't want ignorance as an excuse, many of these videos is due to lack of quality in the American policing and security system. The whole system needs to be scrapped and they need to be trained by Japanese police, Pakistani police, African police, British police. The corruption within these countries mentioned is just as prominent, but the laws alone and policies save lives that America has lost. I'm tired of American enforcement failing their citizens despite being a SUPER power country.

The only countries with more violence than the US are basically war zones.
I feel for her but what did she expect getting w a guy who looks like that? I could tell instantly looking at the first picture that the man is up to no good
Its all relative. The point isn't that there were photos but that they were digital - this is also why it doesn't make any sense for anyone to ask for the back/ erase them - neither for him to say that he is keeping them. Surprised that it was a subject, wouldn't even want that to be part of the story. Always a chance I am missing something though, this short is all I know about the case.
This is the situation that turns a Law abiding Parent into a Law breaking criminal, and they will still side with the offender for insane reasons. The hardest part is knowing they need help and the ones supposed to be helping finding excuses not to do their job. I would end up in Jail but She'd be safe, sad to say but it's hard truth. @TenFalconsMusic As soon as she found out who he really was, she broke up with him. Prior to that, she had no idea he was dangerous. She wasn't attracted to the lure of a dangerous man.

One thing I learned from these videos: if my daughter goes away to college, and feels threatened in anyway, I get her on the first plane or car or bus or train back home, and we lock her in, and I make sure that I am armed. This is horrible.
Better yet teach your daughter - who to date and who to not date. Who to talk at bar/clubs etc. and who you shouldn't talk to and tell them - don't date security guards/bouncers because you are in the college. It's that simple.

You can't do that all your life for her. As the post above me mentioned, TEACH her what to do when things go south like this. Who to call, what to take photos of, where to go, and who to trust in situations like this. You can't crutch a grown adult their entire life, it's not realistic.
Big sis advice: IF THEY ARE POSSESSIVE IN THE BEGINNING IT. WILL. GET. WORSE. They will not get better. They will begin controlling your entire life. They will try to isolate you. This is why banning self-defense tools is so wrong. Set aside the hot button issue of firearms for self defense, many countries in Europe ban the carrying of *pepper spray!* To deny women, the elderly, and the disabled the right to self defense is absolutely wicked. I used to work as Public Safety for a private college in Southwestern Illinois. It was a small Methodist university, and the new students were given such horrible 'advice' from the RA's, such as, "Leave your door open! You never know who you might meet!" I had to tag along on these tours, as the new students were walked around the campus and shown where the buildings were. When they were told to leave their doors wide open, I would interject, "Yes! You can meet your r*pist this way, since folks like to prop open the exterior doors, which allow ANYONE to walk in...not just students. So if you want some guy to get to know you in the carnal way, leave your door open!" I was reported for telling students to keep their room doors closed and locked for their own safety. I'd passed out my own cellphone number to students, so if they drank too much, or if their driver was drunk or high, or if some girl's date was getting too handsy, they can call me, even if I was at home, and I would come get them and take them back to campus. I was threatened with being fired, if I ever drove another student. The college would prefer their students driving drunk, than have a security officer drive the student (in case I wrecked and they decided to sue.) The president of the college told the parents, "Your child will drink, smoke pot and sleep around. Don't get upset, it's all a part of the college experience." When gals came to us about their boyfriends hassling them, we were told to not get involved, "because in two or three days, they'll be kissing each other, and all lovey-dovey, so stay out of it."
Seems like this country is so scared of being seen as it is that even the adults are giving kids bad advice which should be the problem but if u open yr mouth to tell them the truth your a pariah - its so bad that we have to lie, bite our tongue and act like we dont give a crap just in order to keep a job and pay the bills bc the hippy skippys in charge are so devoid of realism and ethics that its taboo to speak the truth. If the parents havent instilled morality in their kids by the time they start college dont blame the school, the police or anyone else - its starting earlier now and even seems to be encouraged for kids to just let it all hang out and dont think rationally or it might be construed as some kind of ism or phobia when its just common sense to most ppl.

Family of murdered college athlete Lauren McCluskey settles with University of Utah for $13.5 million. It won’t bring her back. But I’m glad the university was held accountable. University of Utah President Ruth Watkins, for the first time, admitted Thursday (after lawsuit was settled) that the administration and campus police did not properly handle McCluskey’s repeated pleas for help. Watkins also admitted that the 21-year-old senior’s death was preventable.

I'm going to be honest, I would have to take my child off campus until the police did their job and took the situation seriously. Or I'm going to be with my child every second, fully strapped and ready, until something was done and I know my child is safe. The way Lauren kept reaching out to her parents and to everyone else was clue enough that she really did not want to be alone during all of this. Just breaks my heart. Lauren was her only advocate during this horrifying situation. She did everything she could possibly do but no adults or officers came to her rescue. She had to suffer this alone until that monster got what he wanted.

It's hard to believe that with all the care, attention, and education she received growing up that the parents failed to warn her about dating certain types.
She wanted to find out if the stereotype was true like most women of her type in college. They get ran through by those type of men then settle down with a wm that will provide for them after they get it out of their system.
I've heard about this case many times, & never heard of the Deadpool costume situation .. A random man dressed in a costume on campus proves the lack of concern for every student on campus. Poor Lauren. This was a literal nightmare 😢
I met someone who lied and scammed my parents. He stalks me. Shows up at my house in the middle of the night, knocks on windows, tried to get doors open....the cops know who he is but will do nothing to help me. I did buy a gun and it's always loaded.
Kiddo, make sure you contact a few people who you truly trust and let them know that you are being stalked and have a firearm. Set up a code system. Call each one on a daily basis and give them a code word that they'll know you're okay. Or have them call you. If you don't answer, try one more time and then call the police to do a welfare check immediately. Just my 2 cents 😊
This is the 4th time I've watched a video about Lauren. I get angry every time. Lauren tried over and over to save her life and the pathetic police ignored her. Rest in Heaven, Lauren.
@nate9798 facts cases like these really tick me off. She was young, white, beautiful, feminine, NOT racist, and a vibrant young woman who apparently gave EVERYONE a fair chance... EVERYONE she reached out to failed her tbh😒. Hope the scumbag is getting his payback in eternal torment 😡💯💯💯💯🧔🏾♂️
This is such a hard one to listen to, she made so much effort to protect herself to no avail. That man was so evil. He pursued her relentlessly, just to murder her. It must have been so hard for her parents to hear her kidnapping
They don’t. They tell you to get a restraining order which takes time. I got lucky when I went to the police station and brought my mom even though I was an adult. An undercover officer overheard the voice mail messages I was playing. The ex said he was going to “ take me out” if he saw me out jogging. He asked for his phone number and threatened him. I was so grateful. Still scared though.
How the police departments handled this is absolutely despicable. Every campus officer that had any hand in this case should be charged and fired. I feel so sorry for Lauren and her family 😢
@@themadhi-hatter6849There are over 750,000 police officers in the United States, making millions of arrests every single year. Do you seriously expect nothing bad to happen? Being antagonistic towards cops just increases the number of incidents. By the way,, when mass shootings occur, who is going to stop the killer, seeing as how the police are so untrustworthy?
Oh good, thoughts & prayers from the university 🙄 this case is disgusting and infuriating. Not only is campus police responsible but the SLC police department should have been held accountable. How many times does a situation like this have to happen before they start doing their jobs??? I think police departments around the country need to start employing mental health experts full time; psychiatrists, therapists, counselors that specializes in mental health, addiction, domestic violence just like the FBI has. Beautiful young girl who had her entire life ahead of her, taken far too soon by a narcissistic psychopath posing as a human.
Yea. Let’s get more government employees on the payroll. They have all done amazingly so far. Why is everyone’s answer always to demand more of the same thing that has failed time and time again? It’s not that simple unfortunately.
@@joeblowjohndoe206 when did local law enforcement try this??? It's not that simple?? So do nothing....that's your answer. Everyday three women are killed by a current or ex intimate partner. 56% of female homicides was perpetrated by their partner. In the US 72% of all murder suicides involve an intimate partner; of those 94% of the victims are female. In many cases of femicide (this case for example) it was preventable. So "it's not that simple" isn't a good enough answer. Try harder.
because that's already the policy and they didn't do it, Jesus Christ. OP said FBI has specialists in this, the families of Larry Nassar's victims are literally suing the FBI because they didn't stop him when they knew he was a danger; is this sinking in yet? Do you honestly believe the University Campus police official public protocol is to ignore potential victims and keep victims revenge porn images as personal pornography stashes for officers??? Again, why do you guys keep asking for more of the same thing when you keep getting handed examples of it not working? Repeating stats over and over is not impressive, what is impressive is the guy earlier this year that was covered on Colion Noir's channel that stopped 3 men from abducting a woman as she was getting into her car using his legally obtained firearm. But between that and narrowing down on exactly who would be behind this repeat offender being given so many chances, I'd be surprised if you're interested in any of those answers. By all means though, you keep "trying harder" by octupling down on the same strategies while convincing yourself you're better than others because at least you're "doing something." @@BAW47
The cops are not allowed to do their jobs. If they do, they are accused of murder, or harassment. They have no one, especially the younger generation…letting them do their jobs. Back when police were respected, they would have shot that guy down..no questions asked.
I would add...why didn't Lauren check into his background she had the internet? Why didn't her parents? And why was she so trusting before getting deeply involved (like inviting him to her room and lending her car to him)? Why didn't the parents get her out of there early on? In sum there is alot of blame to go around
