I know you’re way bigger now (well-earned by the way) and probably have to budget your time differently and can’t afford to review every single album, but I would love to see you review In Sickness and In Flames. It really feels like they continued the progression they were going with in this album but the key difference being in the new one they’ve finally figured it out, and I consider it their best album yet

absolutely agreed, i’m still partial to self titled/talon, but in sickness and in flames has been my favorite full length album since then

tfb self titled is their best by far. its raw, gritty, awkward, angsty, and it doesnt sound too polished or too rough. talon of the hawk is really good too but it sounds a bit more on the “pop” side to me, like somewhat commercial and matured. self titled holds a special place in my heart

This album is ridiculous levels of fun. Surprised to see no mention of 2YL, the section at the end felt reminiscent of The Cure's Close To Me. Not the best album you'll hear this year, but one of the most fun.

Yeah definitely. I prefer the former 2 albums. but where those two are 10/10 imo, this one is an 8.5 or 9. but of course that's just my opinion haha

That song is actually what really drew me into this band. I liked them, but that song turned it into something more. If it's not their best, it's top 3 for sure.

1. Self Titled 2. Talon of the Hawk 3. Rose 4. I Hate My Friends 5. Back on Top 6. My Grandmother Vs. Pneumonia 7. Brothers Can't Be Friends Not to say I don't love Back on Top, I just feel like it doesn't top their other studio efforts and I Hate my Friends.

Yeah this is pretty accurate to how I feel. a lot of people are saying back on top is just awful and like, that's so far off and melodramatic. it's just a little different and not really up to par with their best stuff. but it's still good. I agree with Anthony a good bit, but personally it's an 8 or 9 out of 10 for me. even if just for fanboyism haha. the self titled and talon of the hawk are both 10/10 in my book, for reference.

Mentalitarium I would absolutely love Talon of the Hawk if it weren't for Santa Monica. It's a good song instrumentally, but the lyrics don't really fit together.

Astrid Weatherfield Aw really? Damn that's one of my favorites personally. But to each their own. I just have a hard time disliking their music at all. Especially when the dudes are like really nice and genuinely interested in what they are doing. I met Brian once after a show (albeit for only a couple minutes) and he was so fucking nice and chill and they all just seem like great guys that love their music.

This review honestly made me really happy because I feel like you gave them a fair shake in terms of their status as a bit of a "basic" pop-punk band. Like their musical abilities aren't especially flashy or cutting edge but the intention and the emotion behind what they're trying to say is what draws me to them as one of my personal favorite bands. In terms of their lyrics, I agree, they had much less of a narrative intent on this album compared to their others, but I don't know if that necessarily bothers me because their lyrics still manage to touch on the ideas behind certain feelings that many of their younger audience members have. Thx.

I personally love the album, for every part of it. Definitely what I was hoping for and more. I love this bands progression and I will always love everything they've done. I'm super happy you did a video on this album though, made me really happy!!

I really liked this album. I'd personally give it a strong 8/10. I can't really delve into why I think that as much as you can, but idk I like it a lot. The "commercial" parts in The plan (fuck jobs) didn't bother me, I think it added a pleasantness over a kinda angry song. I would really like to see you review Better Book Ends by The Littlest Man Band. Scott Klopfenstein left Reel Big Fish to make this album and it's a masterpiece (regardless of what you think of RBG). Eldorado by ELO is a close second favorite album too, if you could please review that too. I kinda feel like I'm writing a letter to santa.

I am a very big fan of the Front Bottoms, but I feel like this album was exceedingly mediocre compared to their past efforts and it lost so much off the grit and rebelliousness of self titled and the Talon of the Hawk. I also feel like it was a push towards the typical teenage emo who lacks knowledge of the band and the melding of genres, and likes them because they can make a "cute" tumblr post with their lyrics or because they have a desired "aesthetic", but that's just my 2 cents.

Weird, the "typical teenage emo" thing is almost exactly how I feel about people who don't like it: they want all their music to be the same, they don't want their band to change because it's not the same "emo" aesthetic

Well, I've listened to 'Back on Top' some more and I do have to admit, it is pretty good. I still prefer their earlier stuff, but y'know, C'est la vie. Their latest EP 'Needy when I'm Needy' though, is fantastic.

I feel like the thing that many tfb fans loved was how raw and unpolished their music was, now that it's a lot more slick and clean I think people aren't loving it but it's clear the production technically is much better. They'll always be one of my favourite live bands!!

this album is beautiful. absolutely. front bottoms is experimenting like every artist does plus now they have expanded their possibilities by signing with Fueled By Ramen which is obviously going to make them more poppy. but in the end....THEY ARE STILL THE FRONT BOTTOMS.

I've been a big front bottoms fan for years and this isn't my favorite album, but it definitely has a few of my favorite songs. The plan actually is one of them simply for the connection i make with my love life and exefriendships.

The first time i listened to this album i was upset because it didn't captivate me like their previous work and then i listened to it again and i started to like it more and more now its probably my favorite album behind - My grandma vs. Pneumonia

Wow... you gave it just a 6? I thought 8... yes, it's the slickest album yet, but I thought they pulled it off with some really good songs. Having said that- I saw them live recently and they only plaid ONE song from the self-titled album, and 2 from Talon of the Hawk. Every other song was from this one. WTF??? It made me sad/mad. :(

Marita Bray Yeah...sometimes I think bands get tired of playing the same songs over and over as well. This happened once at a Mountain Goats show as well: they had just released a colaberation album with Kakhi King and almost every song the did was from that one, which nobody had even heard.

im a huge fan of tfb, so im probably biased on this but i do really like this album, especially the lyrics. i think people's opinions on the lyrics are really subjective as the band has said that they are intentionally left ambiguous so you can kind of put your own meaning to it. so if you've gone thru something hard like a toxic or abusive relationship or depression or something similar you'll probably enjoy the lyrics more as you would connect to them more. i think the focus of the front bottoms is mostly on the emotion rather than being amazing music and a lot of their songs probably could be better but i still love them.

Anthony please check out and review Adam and the Fish Eyed Poets from India. Their 4th album just dropped (free download) and they are massively underrated.
