Sonny's death was officially classified as a heroin overdose being mixed with several types of sedative drugs like Nodular, Meprobamate, Quaalude and Librium with complications from a preexisting condition of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with lead to heart failure, and undisclosed lung disease.

Plus if we actually look at what happened to Sonny in the last days of his death, the purposed shot that Paul Gallender claimed that mobster placed in his arm was confirmed by Geraldine Liston herself in the 1999 ESPN Documentary that she took Liston to a doctor's appointment weeks before Liston's death to receive a booster shot...

I heard the story of Liston being killed by the mob because of him not tanking for Wepner decades ago. The winner of Wepner vs Liston was supposed to have met Jerry Quarry on the east coast, but not NY as NY state pulled Liston's boxing license after the Ali fight. I believe the NY Times ran an article saying as much the day before the Wepner vs Liston fight, if not the day before the fight, right around that time. I do not know why Wepner vs Quarry never came off, if it had, Quarry would have killed him. I also heard that Liston bet most of his purse on Mac Foster over Quarry, a fight which Quarry won. This might be urban legend, not sure.

You'd have thought forensic could have found a clue about the suspicious circumstances, unless not just quite scientific enough then? Shame great boxer nobody was just quite like him thrilling to watch. The man should have lived longer. R.I. P. Sonny liston

A lot of conspiracy theories about the actual happening. But if it was sinister and someone did know more about it? They most likely would be too frightened to have come forward. I would not blame them. If a person or persons who did know would by now most likely already have died of natural old age. We've only hearsay to go on.

As far as the mobster story goes, the last person that Liston was seen with in public associated with the criminal element was beautician and drug dealer Earl Cage in downtown Las Vegas inside of a trailer park where Liston and Cage took part in a police shootout, it's also presumed that Liston attained drug paraphernalia from Cage before Cage's arrest and died after a mishap of ingesting too much heroin.

@@MichaelRedding-jl5yt Yep, but at the same time Sonny was already heavily decomposed when they performed the autopsy. In order to detect heroin that had to have bloodstream samples, when they got there, most of Sonny's blood was pooling out of his back while his entire body was slowly filling up with maggots and methane gas.

Rest in peace Sonny Liston ❤‍🩹 You deserved a lot better in your life, not even all the fans such as myself deserve you. You went through a traumatic, tough life that nobody deserves even if you are the scariest fighter in the world, which you were... and not just that but, also the hardest hitter in boxing history. ❤ You will always remain as my most favourited boxer EVER in my mind. Absolutely such a devastating story but it's a good thing that Paul Gallender has opened up out to the people of the world and spread this very important truth to fans and fighters across the globe. Thank you Paul.

Jersey City, where Liston fought his last fight was also the place where mob tied boxer Frank DePaula was killed in a mob hit. I am sure it was just a coincidence.
