Oxhorn I’ve been asking for this for a long time , thanks for doing these great videos mate. Us that were playing in 1996 really appreciate you focusing on the whole community. 👍😊😊
Oxhorn, to apply stimpaks with the least amount of AP lost hold right click and drag the mouse torwards the outstretched hand to apply them. You can do this without limit with no AP lost.
27:14 For anyone not from California, "the sprawling Metropolis of Bakersfield" is like saying the stunning beauty of Detroit. I think the writers were having a lil laugh there. But might have been different by 2077.
Npcs when sending you on a quest: 1,200 gold coins and a new resident of your settlement. Npcs when you pickpocket them: 12 gold coins, bread, copper wedding band, and a feather
@@ididntmeantoshootthatvietn5012 well they do just hand your money right there tho, it’s not like they go anywhere to get it. But personally I don’t question stuff like this, I just understand there’s a “gamey” reason why it’s there. Kinda like when you kill a merchant you can only loot a few caps and some shitty gear they’re wearing, not every single thing that they were selling. It’s just there cuz it’s a damn video game. Ppl would complain if every time you were awarded caps from an NPC they had to go and get they money for you.
I am so happy we can finnaly get the story of Fallout 1 I hope to see Fallout 2. I love how in depth you go always get happy when I see you uploaded thank you for the hard work.
I'd like to see him tackle Fallout Tactics as well and discuss whether or not he believes it's canon. I'm really interested in the Midwester Brotherhood and would like to see them return someday.
Fun fact: the .223 pistol (also the 5.56 pistol and That Gun) were designed to look like the pistol that the main character, Decker, uses in Blade Runner.
I wish this game (and FO2) was remastered in full 3D while retaining all the voices, giant campaign map, the outdated yet enjoyable character level system, and such stuff. I love newer games, but these games had a charm like no other game in post-apocalyptic genre. There was a modder that tried to do this in FNV but that project died quickly.
I wonder about the size of Junkyown, Shady Sands and the Hub in 2284 vs Megaton, Rivet City and Diamond city. I would presume the California cities are now many many times larger than anything else in post war America.
@@jayhill2193 That's what it is. He says you get over three thousand and eight hundred caps if you take the 1000 cap loan first. Those 0's really do look like 8's.
I love how the Hub captures the universal rule, that in a place without centralized power or law, an oligarchical "council" of the richest merchants will eventually form.
I hope 5 years later you can spot why this doesn't make sense, knowing several historical examples of oligarchies or dictatorships sprawling from countries that had either or both, while knowing from those examples the reasons why centralized power or law are not opposed to this formation & in some ways can worsen the grip of the power structure that forms.
29:45 original chip broke someone else got a different chip and wasn’t allowed back in the vault. That’s the skeleton you see outside your vault at the beginning
Apologies for jumping ahead. I learned playing Fallout was to get the available followers, Ian, Tycho and Dogmeat as soon as possible. They really do come in handy and there is a better chance of survival. I determined that using the water merchants was, for me, the best way to got to supply water to Vault 13. I made that decision because I was so involved with exploration and leveling that I would burn through the 150 days limit before finding the water chip. I did find the chip in time, but hey, it is so easy to get distracted.
But if you do the water chip quest without use the water merchants, you have 13 years in game to do wathever you want, don´t get me wrong, play the way you like, but in that way you don't risk too soon your vault
Without going into the details that make this series significant to me I’ll just say this. Thanks for all your hard work and passion that you have poured into the Fallout franchise as a whole. I have developed a whole new love for the Fallout series, and it’s Lore, that I find myself wanting to play the older games such as this one. Thanks again for all the Fallout Lore videos! P.S. Sometimes I just can’t help but watch your Lore videos over some Netflix and HBO shows that I enjoy watching.
If you think about it, 90% of quest you do is side quests, to be honest I still don't full understand which missions in Fallout 1 and 2 are side and main. But for the newer Fallout games this is true
Makenzie Brennan it’s unarguable that new Vegas has better writing, story, and lore than FO3. Even as far as popularity and weapons choices most people preferred New Vegas over 3. However, new Vegas is plagued with its own issues particularly a glaring retconn.
@@cullenseago1519 Well, story, characters and lore are opinionated. But I agree that New Vegas had a better story than Fallout 3. Fallout 4 had the best story in my personal opinion. But yeah, New Vegas had issues. Not only lore breaks, but half of the game is just Fallout 3 (not that I have a problem with that), the game is a glitchy mess (there are still quest, item spawn glitches and crashes on Xbox One in 2018, the game was nearly unplayable until the ultimate edition on PC, etc etc. I still love New Vegas, but it's not perfect. No game is.
Oxhorn, Thank you for reading the holodisk. Interesting read. Since Vault 12 was awarded the "Pressed Vault Suit" Award, it is possible that some, if not all, of the awards shown in the display case in the teaser/first trailer for Fallout 76 shown at E3 are not individual awards which nearly everyone, including myself thought. Videos series like these provide a glimpse into what Fallout 76 may be. Thank you. Sincerely, Jennifer M. Montgomery
I love how you can see the impact the Vault Dweller of Fallout 1 had on the wasteland, the only person outside of the 3 raider tribes and the residents of Shady Sands that knows that Vaults exist is a librarian, we saw how Killian didn’t know they existed but fast forward to Fallout 2, 3, 4, and New Vegas and everyone just talks about Vaults like they are a normal occurrence, I know that it’s likely that the Vault Dweller wasn’t responsible for it all but I still find it to be a cool detail.
As someone who picked up the series with Fallout 3 (and never finished) it makes me so happy that you’re making these videos! I’m playing catch up on all the lore in anticipation of Fallout 76. Keep up the great work!
didn't get a chance to play the first few fallout games as I was too young when they came out but I'm so glad Ox got the first one to work on his rig so I can get the story. Now here's hoping he can get the second one to work
Just a FYI, Once you open your inventory you can use the stimpacks and reload your weapons from inside it. Noticed you were dragging the stimpack to a slot and then using it which wastes AP. Your videos are amazing!
I gotta say, I'm a big fan of the eccentric narration. It conveys a lot of enthusiasm about the subject material and that really makes the difference between a dry and a captivating video essay.
I'm gonna say thank you so much Oxhorn for making this sort of Guide for fallout 1, I'm going through fallout 1 and I play each area through, then stop and watch the next video to find out what to do. Really love this and I hope you go through EVERY Fallout game like this. Great content.
I’m playing this game right now, using your video as a walkthrough. Played FO 3,NV,4. This series is my favorite and you are the best narrator I’ve ever had the privilege of listening too. Ladies of the Evening. Haha. Your voice and change of tone keeps me watching. Thanks @Oxhorn
I stumbled across this channel by way of lore videos on later games. I noticed the playthroughs and decided to watch through as many of them as I could, especially since I have all this new time on my hands with the quarantine. I'm quickly becoming a fan and working my way through some of the videos.
I love these walkthroughs and how thorough you are in exploring all the options. I actually own some of the old Fallouts but, never got around to playing them. After watching these, I might just see if I can get them working and try em out.
Killing Lorenzo at this juncture feels kind of grey. "A warrior dedicated to protecting the innocent delivers swift justice to a bloodthirsty usurer." "A drifter defrauds and murders a local businessman so as to ransack his place of business." Technically these are both true.
Just want to say, your Videos are amazing. I have never seen someone going so in deep, with his analyses. Even going so wide to tell stuff about current events and how it impacts the future of the fallout universe. Keep up the amazing work.
I've not seen Fallout 4 players playing this game in general. You're the first one in my book and that's awesome. Heck you even managed to make Fallout 4 lore interesting and while Fallout 1 is already rich with interesting lore, you manage to deliver it in such a way that I'm pondering playing Fallout 1 again because you leave no stone unturned and I like that!
@29:00 ...DID the water chip last that long ...or was that skeleton in the vault suit you saw just a predecessor who had to do the same job they sent you to do? Maybe the water chip that failed was actually one from vault 15 after all; retrieved and turned in by the dead guy you saw leaving the vault.
Thanks for the history of fallout 1 + 2 videos with fallout being my favourite game series it’s good to find out the lore I never even knew was connected and to finally see what shady sands vault 13 etc were actually like great vids what a voice and I’m a straight dude but even I gotta admit that voice could talk me out of my clothes in seconds 😳 but anyways thankyou bro from rainy scotland 🏴
Very cool series. Fallouts 1 and 2 were always games where I loved the writing but I kind of just suck at them, so a story-intensive walkthrough like this is a really neat find for me.
Thank you so much Oxhorn, I never really played Fallout 1 on PC, but this is the best play through I ever watch it you really did gave me some choice options.
Loving this series. Are you planning on doing the same for Fallout 2? Possibly Fallout:Tactics later on? If I’m not mistaken a lot of Tactics isn’t canon but there are some memorable moments. Sentient deathclaws comes to mind.
"84 years after the nuclear apocalypse, and the chip *just* broke" Oh sweet child of summer.... Who do you think the other skeleton was outside the vault door?
In a recent playthrough I have found how overpowered a combo of good perception, the Sniper Rifle, and sharpshooter perk really is. I have created a lot of characters, this was probably the easiest run I had even had as a combat player. Mowed down the super mutants one shot in the eyes from great distances. Small guns, because the rifles/shotguns count can work great endgame.
Hey Oxhorn just wanna say i love your page man. Fallout is one of my favorite game franchise and i enjoy all the detailed information in the game. Your page is the only one i come for the lore. Gaming lore for Adults lol THANK YOU
Hi, Oxhorn! I LOVE this story series to death. Not a lot of Fallout 1 playthroughs go to this much depth of the many paths you can take in this game. Would you consider a brief highlights video of Fallout 1 with a low intelligence character?
These need to be on television ,you would be the David Attenborough of the game world . I'm hooked and I don't even play RPG's ,which I'm reconsidering ,great work Oxhorn
Aren't you able to use stimpacks directly from your inventory? Saving 2 action points and enabling you to use multiple in a single turn? Also while in the inventory you can take the opportunity to reload your gun for no additional AP.
Haven't seen anyone mention it yet and honestly its a small detail, but I think the reason the water chip 'lasted' for 84 years was probably because the dwellers had some replacement chips and spare parts but had finally run out, or no longer had someone skilled enough to do repairs (the reason the dweller is sent out in the first place is because they 'don't have' these replacements, but that could be because they used them all.) Just a thought. Possible it just came down to the chip exceeding it's expected life due to a Factor of Safety in it's design. Or I'm just totally overthinking it. Great video though!
Loving the Fallout 1 content! I got Fallout 1 for free like a year ago when it was free on steam for the anniversary but only started playing it recently, super fun and I always love seeing all the stuff I miss. Keep it up Ox!
The "Rifle" he gave you IS technically a rifle - cut down into a gun. It's known as "The Gun" in the fallout mythos, there is one in Fallout 2 as well as well as a replica in Fallout NV IIRC.
WOW! I love Fallout 4, but watching this Fallout 1 has so much more to it. There are so many people, places, quests and stories. Fallout 4 world seems so small now.
I was playing this and I actually found a way to complete both the Thieves Circle and Decker's quests with Darren Hightower with baseline stealth and trap skills. I waited until midnight then went to the heights, when questioned I said I was going to leave then immediately went into sneak mode (with my base sneak of 17%) and carefully walked down the right side of the map to the bottom of Darren's building. Standing at the left window of DArren's bedroom I had a clear shot at him and his wife and I killed them both through the window without alerting any guards (used hunting rifle, Guns skill of 110%, make sure to kill his wife first because she'll run but for some reason he won't. Headshots for best effect), then I snuck around to the bottom corner of the building and sniped the door guard (headshots, one knocked him down then since my sequence was high and I started combat I could shoot him again) then snuck into the building, after looting his body. The strongbox was a bit tricky but I was able to disarm the trap after about 12 attempts then pick the lock with the lockpicks I got from the thieves circle. Then I just snuck back around the bottom of the building and out of the heights. Only three kills needed, didn't get shot once and no real sneaking skill. I didn't look at a guide I just decided to see if I could do it and Intuited that, I love that's an option I had to figure out myself using the terrain to keep myself hidden. May take a few saves if your accuracy misses and the guards go on alert, even with 95% headshot accuracy.
