Good radio reception depends on a lot of different factors all coming together all at the same time, in the same place.
A properly installed Antenna is a key part in the mix of things that need to be right.
Improving radio reception is often more Art than Science - but there are things that can be done to improve poor reception

If this Video looks familiar, it's because this is an re-upload. A few Videos were deleted by mistake (Harvey's really mad with me about this. . . don't get the Hedgehog mad!!!) - Chris

I lived in a house in the mid 80's that had a Nutone Intercom. I always wondered what kind of Antenna was connected because I got stations from 100+ miles away and I lived close to a FM station and there was barely any interference from the station. Seems like I remember some wires in either the basement or the attic right above the main unit attic area there was a door upstairs that went in the attic. I think what I saw in the basement was just a speaker.

Hi chrisgarrett: I would suspect that the Antenna was up in the attic, since that's were the signal are the best and strongest. Locations is an important factor in how good (or bad ) reception is. If you live a a fairly flat area, signals travel further without any blockages from hills and valleys. If you live too close to an broadcast antenna, the signal can be to strong and overwhelm the Tuner. - Chris

Chris, if I wanted to add the 40 feet of 22 gauge wire for a better AM antenna, where do you make the connection at the master station on my IM-4006 so that the unit can take advantage of the new 40 foot AM antenna?

Hi R. Rasmussen: The new AM Antenna Wire would need to be connected to 1 of the Pins on the Tuner Board - Where the standard AM / FM Dipole Antenna is connected. Which pin the new AM Antenna gets connected to - depends entirely on which gives you the better reception. After figuring which pin you're going to use - carefully and tightly wrap the bare end of the wire around the Pin - the slide the Dipole Antenna connector down onto the pins. You can also solder the AM Antenna to the pin if you're able to. - Chris
