Same! But really they are ALL badasses. Sometimes I like to cheese out just focusing on that damn percussionist (and, honestly, all of them at different points in time -- I just love me badass musicians yo! :) ).

While I might have missed some earlier comments, the ones I saw didn't bother me in that way. I interpreted them more like someone saying, "Oh my, that painting invoked the same flavor of beauty in my heart as a similar painting by that other artist!" But I do hear what you're saying. Where I live, a friend of mine became a local musical hero who is now known internationally, the amazing singer/keyboardist/songwriter Kelley Hunt. Years ago, I told her her playing reminded me of that of Ray Charles, and that her voice struck me as if Bonnie Raitt and Thelma Houston had a love child! She accepted that intended compliment gracefully and didn't complain, but later in life it struck me how rude of me that was to say to her. Who wants to be told, "Hey, you're an awesome facsimile of this other artist I love! Great almost-the-artist-I-love imitation there!!" She (probably) didn't want to sound like Ray Charles or Bonnie Raitt-meets-Thelma-Houston; she wanted to sound like Kelley Hunt. But you know, she is so humble that I know she'd likely interject here that she would not play the way she does were it not for Mr. Charles' profound influence, and that her singing is likely similarly influenced by the vocal greats I mentioned. Still, as you pointed out, it's generally neither complimentary nor constructive to mention that one artist reminds us of another artist. Appreciate the insight, Vicki.

Yes it's that fascinating mixture of swung and straight at the same time. Blows my mind. Snarky did it on Binky.

It's all in those subdivisions. Straight 8ths could be called a 1:1 rhythm (duplet subdivision), traditional swing a 2:1 rhythm (triplet subdivision), but this neo-soul style is often a 3:2 (quintuplet subdivision) or 4:3 rhythm (septuplet subdivision). The drummer seems to be doing a little bit of everything haha.

So its not Snarky Puppy at all? The whole point of snarky puppy is to be quite eccentric and push the boundaries of contemporary composition. Id say this is more like The Funky Knuckles, a completely different band trying to accomplish a completely different thing.

sorry to say, but jazz and funk fusion has been a thing long before Snarky Puppy existed, and although they are an amazing band, Snarky Puppy does not own the genre
