You forgot that with defamation, not only does the statement need to be false, you need to prove that the defendant KNEW it was false. If they are just wrong or misled/misinformed, it's not defamation. This is EXTREMELY difficult to prove.
Not just that, you have to prove the defendant knew the statement was false AND that the person stated the false claim to damage a person’s reputation. and in a lot of places, a victim will not get a single cent if there was no genuine harm done to their reputation (and losing friends & being bullied online doesn’t count as a damaged reputation)
@@JimmiJam I know, I was just adding additional info he missed about that particular point. Essentially, You need to prove that a lie was told to cause damages and that it did so. There are 3 very difficult things to prove embedded in this. A) proving that someone knowingly lied. B) proving they lied in order to cause tangible damages. C) that the damages occured and were a direct result of the lies. This is trickier than it seems, as it means that if you were fired/not hired for something, you need it on record that the lies were the reason. You need to prove 3 separate things that should exist entirely in People's minds, if said people have any sense at all. Everyone needs to be monumentally stupid for the plaintiff to have a record of any of this, much less all of it. If any one person in this chain, keeps their mouth shut on why/if they lied, or why an employer fired the plaintiff, or these things are only communicated verbally, the case is kaput.
@misses elise doesn't personal reputation not matter in the court of law? I know that In alot of places there has to be provable monetary loss along with the internet to cause said loss via dissemination of falsehoods that the person knows is a falsehood.

It's scary to know that your life could be upended because one person decides to record you in public and post it to TikTok. Sure, you can put out information on people that either run off or dodge legal consequences. But you can also spread false information super easily. This is actually a common tactic to, where online crazies and their journalist friends will repeat the same labels over and over to smear someone, with most having no money to fight back (e.g., J.K. Rowling got someone to retract their comment on her because she actually threatened to take them to task in court over it). Twitter's the same place where a 19 year-old will be called a predator for dating a 17 year-old, or where someone tall will be called a predator because of their short, young-looking partner, despite being close (if not the same) in age. If it's not a problem people can throw tweets and online doxxes at they don't care to engage.

That's literally the kind of thing someone might harm or outright kill you in public for (and we all know pedophiles don't last long in prison if they're put with the general population). I think you have legal grounds if someone is trying to falsely claim you're a sex offender. Should be an easy case if you have the evidence of them conspiring to defame you. That stuff will ruin your chance of being employed and in some places will definitely get you stabbed.
This is true. You do have to claim financial damages otherwise, but (and I believe this is the case unless I'm misconstruing this with another aspect of defamation, and if I am it might be the "actual malice" caveat) there can be cases where the claim is so egregious that the court assumes that there was damage anyway, which is usually the case for extreme statements like stating someone has an STD, or is a sexual offender, things that can actually get them ostracized or stigmatized in society.
@@Gunblazer42 Yeah you wouldn't need to prove damages for a case like this. Honestly if they took the guy to court, it'd probably be a slam dunk, but you would have to consider that you have to convince a jury that a furry is right about anything XD

It was obvious from the start that Valid L's only objective was to get under the skin of the people he was targeting, the fact that the furry/trans community celebrated a frivolous lawsuit which had very little chance of actually going through just gave Valid L's more reason to keep going. Common misconception. Doxing is both illegal and legal. It's only illegal to post private info in a dox. But it is legal to post public info. So it can be either or depending on the circumstances. Doxing can fall into 2 categories. Posting public info which is legal and posting private info that was never publicly posted which is illegal. If you dox someone it could be legal or illegal depending on what it was. So it makes it a legal gray area.
If it's publicly available info, it's not doxxing. That said, show me where sharing private information is illegal? If I posted your name and address or phone number into this comment section, what law would I be violating?
@thereisnocat9496 RU-vid is a US company and therefore must follow US Laws anyone committing a crime under US law can be trialed by US Courts even if you aren't a citizen of the US (that's part of international law). All of this would have been avoid had twitter actually enforced their ToS about harassment and hate speech. I swear, there is no such thing as a strong case for Defamation. If I was a lawyer I would NEVER take on a case that only had the charge of defamation. It is one of the hardest things to sue for. You have to prove intent and that the person behind the defamation knew for a fact that what they were saying isn't true. This is why defamation is most often brought up in court cases when there are multiple charges to put against someone instead of defamation on its own. Someone could have what they consider strong evidence of defamation, however, there are just too many issues with it. I know that at least in the United States, when going to court something has to be proven without doubt which is difficult to do in anything that is he said/she said situations. You can claim that someone had the intent to defame you, but that's not enough. And if the Jury or judge can't be one hundred percent convinced of intent, if there is even a small hint of doubt, then the case technically can't be won. If you're suing for defamation, it's best as just one charge out of multiple or at least two. Make sure the other charge is strong enough, because defamation on its own is going to be one hell of a thing trying to prove.
Lol that's rctarded. 99.99% of the time, the """criminal""" would be THE SAME PERSON AS THE VICTIM. Doxing is virtually always info the "victim" *CHOSE* TO MAKE PUBLIC. Nobody can EVER dox info that you DON'T PUT ONLIN5
As a far right republican Ima say this valids L needs to be taken there so stupid and ridiculous sorry your going through this I pray life goes better for her
There's no such thing as a "far right republican", they're technically center left by objective political standards. The only people who think Republicans are "far right" are those who listen to CNN and MSNBC or worse. Sincerely, someone who is actually "far right".
idc who its on or who does it, but if you fake dms to ruin someone's life/paint them as a creep You should just line up against the wall and close your eyes, its absolutely disgusting that people do this no matter who its targetting.
@@Purplethingyt Yeah, idc about like being homophobiv or transphobic but the second you pull what they did, you earn everything coming to u like a chomo in prison bring the pin cushion for the convicts
@@alicemalice1047 To be fair, if someone's slandering you as a pedophile, they're basically setting you up to be killed. You don't come back from a sex offense against kids, and there's plenty of people that claim they'd brutally off someone for that, even if they risk jail time. Even if you serve your time, there's people that would probably kill you after you got out, or try to send you back. I'm not saying such sentiments are wrong (we are talking about sex crimes against kids after all), but this is the whole reason why everyone is SUPPOSED to have their own day in court. It's a pretty common sentiment to have someone be punished with whatever punishment they tried to get imposed on someone else (e.g., false accusers of rape getting the same time the falsely accused rapist would've gotten).
