The Gawsworth Hall Classic Car Show 2023

Although the Gawsworth Hall classic car show is, I think, somewhere I've been to before (maybe 25 years ago!?), I had no recollection or idea of just what a stunning location it is to host a classic car event at. The main hall at Gawsworth dates to Tudor times, 1480 to be precise.
This car show is held in the undulating grounds surrounding Gawsworth Hall in Cheshire, home to immaculately-maintained lawns, hedges and flowerbeds, providing the perfect backdrop for the large number of classic cars that turned up.
In this video I film many of the classic and vintage cars that turned up for the day, many of which I'd not seen before. Later I go for a leisurely walk around, to familiarise myself with the layout of the displays and admire the cars in more detail, before standing close to the exit to see and hear many of the cars depart. The last thing I was expecting to be greeted by on our arrival was a Batmobile from the 1960s TV series!
Other highlights include a fantastic Invicta Black Prince, a car I remember seeing at shows some years back but not recently. There was a large and varied display put on by the local Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club, and a smaller but no less interesting collection of cars brought along by the Wolseley Register. Other sightings that also spring to mind include a great forward-control Commer pickup, Wolseley Six, Ford Model A pickup, two-stroke SAAB, a matching pair of Austin A35 pickups, a Piper GT, two Leyland Princesses from the 1970s, a stunning pre-war Triumph Dolomite, and a line of Jensens and Bristols including a rare Pininfarina-bodied car. By far the oldest car was a 1903 Darracq, footage of this veteran machine driving away is included in this video.
I'm really glad that we made it to the 2023 Gawsworth Hall classic car show and we'll definitely endeavour to return again soon. The combination of some really great old cars and the wonderful surroundings made for a very memorable day, the Gawsworth Hall show is definitely one of my favourites now.

Looking at the MGBs is interesting. Early cars didn't come with side view mirrors, in fact most cars didn't until the end of the 60's. They were fitted by the dealer as an accessory, usually 2/3 way along the top of the front wing (or wings if you got two). Reason I noticed is that MGB door skins were quite prone to splitting vertically under the quarter light where door mounted mirrors could be. Along with telescopic radio aerials on the wings, they just drilled holes in the bodywork with predictable results. Wing mirrors were always a bit "difficult" unless you had something like a Mini.

It never ceases to maze me just how many cars show up o these events. There must be literally 1,000''s of garages in the UK holding these cars and an absolute fortune spent on an annual basis keeping them on the road. True dedication. Between your good self and Harley you manage to monopolise my Sunday mornings. Jag 420G simply magnificent I owned a 1963 Humber Super Snipe in the early 70's a terrific car in many ways. I actually sold it for a small profit.

Just outstanding as ever Rick , as you say in a beautiful setting , you manage to include so much detail and perspective of so many.I could gladly take a few home, the superbly elegant Rolls 20/25hp Sedanca Coupe , most likely with coachwork by Gurney Nutting at 3.32, JJ 5549, the gorgeous Sunbeam ( Talbot ) Alpine, but probably the most incredible and rare , the Invicta Black Prince. Then again , wouldn't say no to the ' 65 Velocette Venom Thruxton- wow that exhaust note !.

Hi 👋 A very nice setting for a car show. Spring with the beautiful flower in bloom on the trees. I liked Batman on TV 📺 in the 1960s . So it was cool seeing the Batmobile there. Where was the caped crusader ?. I could imagine Harley dressed as Robin , and you as Batman. Only joking.

Hello Sir, notice the Wolseley 1500s are the family versions where the chrome trim extends to the front of the wings rather than ending short with the "W" slightly back on the Fleet versions. The Jag has an "AN" registration, which, prior to 1965, was East Ham, London, unless I am wrong. Down my way, the Bromley Pageant is cancelled this year due to ULEZ (one day event, a lot of modern classics begrudge paying £12.50 to attend) ,but Enfield is going ahead, a three day event.

Thanks for doing this one, Rick. Amazing selection of cars on a not so nice day. My favorite was the Invicta Black Prince - it is so elegant and to me looks very custom with the sleek body and no hint of running boards. The only thing to have made it better would be to take a couple inches out of the top height. I know that cars of that era needed "hat room", but lower would have been better for me. There were so many cars you showed that I will never see in person and I thank you for that. The blue early Triumph with the three position drop head was just spectacular. I can't imagine rechroming that grille and getting it so straight!

It was imported into Canada by Chrysler, had a Penta Star on the passenger lower front wing.. Single SU, 1725cc, bought it for $500 from a friend and drove it home (500 miles) from his place, It was my first standard car and not my last English car. You mentioned the 70 mph limit on major motorways. We have the same but most cruise at 80 without intervention. That was one major reason I switched to a Transit five speed the fifth giving 0.8 overdrive so my 63 B900 series V 4/4 keeps up withought undue stress and then some should the road be straight and spirit tempoarily willing. At which point I recall that I put in the Gemmer steering box myself and did I check tire status recently?

There’s a man in Iowa [ I believe], who recreates the Bat Mobile under License, for sale. He made the news not too long ago when a client [ who missed some payments- and was pushed back in line], got mad, and pulled a “favor “, from his local California police chief, and had a team of investigators raid his place. Something of a scandal, and the builder was CLEARED of ALL charges, which led to investigation of the California police chief and his. 📻🙂

Check out the Bicester Heritage vid for example and I talk a lot about some older BMWs for example, Mercedes, French cars, American cars and so on. But moderns regardless of country of origin are of little interest to me and the channel. Just as I wouldn't expect a modern supercars channel to spend long looking at Austin A35s, or Pops. Excellent video of a wide selection of Classic cars for all tastes on show here. The Dodge Charger exiting at the end was an absolute beast of a car. With the Ford Mustang Fastback also turning up, they reminded me of that brilliant car chase from Bullit with Steve Mc Queen.
