Zach''s fascination with the hanky code is adorable. I think I have seen the most hankies in leather bars. This video was really fun. Alastair always makes me laugh, he puts so much analysis into these quizzes. When I was first coming out, if you wanted to know where the "right" bars were in a town, you went to a men's clothing store and chatted up the male suit salesmen. This was so much fun. I’m 100% intrigued getting to learn the types of things Zach and Alastair enjoy. It makes this whole like, oh they get into that too wow. I guess it’s just that whole relatable element, that I’m not the only freak out here lol. And I think there’s something generally fun finding out what things you have in common with friends. I especially loved Zach like gauging specific things and whether he would or wouldn’t enjoy them. It was fun, and a much needed distraction 😉

Many people already said it but yes Hanky codes still exists , and there were other codes as well so an episode on codes would be interesting. Also it happened long before the 80’s the hanky code. Alastair got a bit red there in the middle of that! 😂 I've seen a couple hanky codes where the hanky has either dogs or bone designs on it to indicate puppy play and similar to top/bottom, it's pup and master.

The hanky code dates back about 50 years and was more prevalent thru the early 80's. Checkout the movie 'Cruising' starring Al Pacino, por ejemplo.

I have been watching your videos for years but I had no idea you were now doing this type of podcast! You are a natural! Being an older gay (seems like yesterday I was only 18!) I DID know about the hanky code but never saw anyone using it. I did once come up with the idea of a plaid hanky, meaning you were into guys wearing kilts and playing bagpipes to YMCA! I would also love to hear a program where you ask people what their favorite pick-up lines have been over the years that they've used (or) heard. My favorite was "If it's true that you are what you eat, I could be YOU by morning!". It actually worked for me a couple of times. Thanks again guys. I love your chemistry!

I didn't have anything of the sort in high school (I transferred schools and credit transfer shenanigans meant that I didn't really have a health class) but I did take a Human Sexuality class in college. We covered a lot of different topics but the class was very open and supportive. Our first class session we even did introductions that included our pronouns. But that class taught me a lot, and to this day I encourage any student at the college to take that class with that teacher. Not only was it enjoyable, it was informative.

Loved the vid, you are both so much fun and charming. But as someone who lived through those times let me say the hanky code was very helpful at times (and not so much the rest of the time). But it was not as convoluted as the quiz you have. It was basically seven or eight core colors. Anything beyond that was just a head-scratcher.

A good one. I do remember hankie codes. But not so elaborate.The 100 questions might be somewhere for men which would also educate us. The one for women sure surprised me..BTW if you FF it closes up, Zack, it does not stay open. Cruising varies from place to place. The American version of cottages could be truck stops, highway rest stops or toilets in train stations. Dating apps have cut into the out of the house kind of fun. I recall the cruising styles of times gone by in NY, Cairo, Paris, Dacca.Mexico City and on and on. It always worked no matter where.

Loved it guys, I have not seen hanky anything for awhile. I am old enough to remember going to bars in Fort Lauderdale where people wore hankies I knew so little had no idea what they meant. my favorite hanky was the one that says anytime anywhere but not with anyone - LOL. I think the hankys went away when AIDS came around. I think there is an app for all of this these days which is way better than trying to find someone on the net and no wasting time at the bar. I think someone already mentioned it in the comments: the term is "a friend of Dorothy", from the "Wizard of Oz", where Judy Garland played the little girl/Dorothy/ that sang " Somewhere over the rainbow".. all LGBT symbolism. Also there was a documentary and a movie, if I'm not mistaken, about Judy Garland in her later years where she becomes besties with an gay couple, & she also has to defend the 2 mem's love, hence the term "my best Judy" - they use it a lot in Rupauls drag race.

Hanky code was a thing in the late 60"s thru the 70's. It largely went away after 1983. Also key ring on belt loop (keys outside) was a thing for gay guys to spot each other.
