It's obvious to me, that educators are not attuned to what boys need to be more engaged with school. It saddens me to think these young men are stuck in the idea they should be providers of the family. In fact, both husband and wife must provide for the family in this economy. My mother worked outside of the home as a secretary. Initially, she worked part time and then in the 60's full time because there were 5 of us kids they needed to support. These young men's expectations of themselves are not realistic. It saddens me that their identity is wrapped up in being the sole provider.

I think what gets lost in these discussions is the tragedy that you need two incomes to raise a family. It shouldn't be that way. But these men are so blinded by a personal attachment to the idea that they fail to see how we got here. Instead of looking at the factory jobs that are going away, why not look at the skyrocketing price of housing? Why not seriously consider why it is that other countries can survive on much less money than us? It's short-sighted.

This isn't an educator problem. The whole argument that only boys "hate" sitting in classrooms to learn is a myth and it also does nothing but enable them to not be disciplined enough to acquire skills and meet requirements that they will have to have upon graduation. I do not know any post-secondary education institution or even a work-based program that will not require some form of lecture, modules or assessments that they will have to sit down for and focus on. Girls aren't necessarily "better" at it, they just understand that they have to do it to get where they want to be.

Voting Trump is likely often more of an emotional choice, not a logical one. Then again, politics in general is a very emotionally charged field. Democrats do need to strongly consider reworking our (practically non-existent) messaging towards men, though... Aside from rare instances like this podcasts (which is kinda tangential, at best), we don't even acknowledge the existence of issues faced by men, specifically. And we've got minimal positive messaging on masculinity at all (I'm trying to think of an example I've seen, but I actually can't). On the flip side, when you, personally, have done nothing, but people keep telling you that you're the enemy simply because you're a man, that's not very encouraging messaging. As for male virginity? I'm going to put a fair bit of that down to unrealistic expectations that online dating and Disney have been giving women. A lot of whom are looking for a Prince charming, and nothing less, thanks to the illusion of choice that online apps give. Plus there's the increase in social anxiety and decrease in social skills/experiences, thanks to the internet more generally. When you're looking to find someone or something to blame entire trends on, look less for a group of people to blame, and more for environmental factors that have changed. Just be respectful to women and don't think of them as your farm to grow your children. Then there won't be much chasm. The chasm is because historically men thought that they are the owners of women and could keep them in the kitchen while they are doing the muscle work out there. But more money is not made with muscle work anymore. It is done with mind work with better education and women are better at it. Until men accept this reality, this chasm will not close.

The patriarchy isn't the simplistic men-dominate-women thing you're assuming it to be. Working class men are victims of it too. Picture the microcosm of fundamentalist Mormon communities -the ones that have polygamy and the "sister-wives" all wearing prairie dresses and getting married off by their parents as teenagers, rather than allowing them to choose their husbands. That's a glaring example of patriarchy obviously, but do all the men in those communities benefit? No, because the only way for polygamy to happen is if some men get zero wives. Those who get one or more wife tend to be the men with more money, higher rank or familial relation to high-ranking members. Boys of regular 'flock' families are not only disallowed to marry; they may be driven out of the community in adolescence, like young colts out of a horse herd. In a bigger patriarchy, even with basic freedom and without rigid social controls like arranged marriages, young men with working class fathers (or no fathers) may find themselves just as constrained as women.

It’s highly unlikely they can even be this in a future economy, no matter who wins the presidency. These guys can keep dreaming, but ultimately they want the benefits of head of household without doing what was required of men in the past. The expectation is for their wives to work much lower paying jobs to contribute to bills, all while maintaining the household and doing the lion’s share of raising the kids. Because women can have our own pursuits and don’t have to center men and children, it frustrates men and makes them question their purpose. A lot of the guys I know are voting trump, one group of guys are very religious, so it's mostly abortion for them, but the other group is non religious single guys. To them a lot of kamalas policies sound like they will increase how much comes out of their paycheck, and they will see no benefit from it. If you're a single guy without a college education and with no prospects for a relationship or children what do you benefit from policies that support other men's children, or policies that support college graduates (student loan payoffs)? To be clear I'm not in that boat, but I understand it, why support programs like student loan forgiveness, universal pre-k, paid parental leave, that you'll never benefit from?

When we take away the provider role, but still tell men that they're supposed to be providers, and don't give any guidance on alternative paths forward, how do we expect to win over male voters??
@KayAnn2121
@KayAnn2121 День назад
@@Bertinator-nm9ld I think the provider expectation has gone by the wayside for a while now. A better path is to become a partner to your wife instead of a leader expecting to be in charge of her. If you're both working outside the home, I don't see why a man shouldn't pitch in and do the same chores and child rearing tasks his wife does. By the way, I've seen people discussing this very arrangement online. You must take it upon yourselves to evolve towards a path to be better companions so that you are not at odds with the women you want to be with. Otherwise, I'm not sure you can convince a man to vote differently if he's voting out of spite instead of voting to actually improve his situation. Men may decide to vote against women's interests, but in the long term that stance will backfire.
@Bertinator-nm9ld
@Bertinator-nm9ld День назад
@@KayAnn2121 Ok, but what messaging and guidance is being given towards men, to help us figure out what that means and looks like? Plenty of new expectations are being placed on men (and NOT all of them as simple as helping out with chores), but no one seems to really be willing to put effort into teaching men how the new arrangements are supposed to work. We're largely just told to shut up and figure it out on our own, honestly.
@KayAnn2121
@KayAnn2121 День назад
@@Bertinator-nm9ld Are you looking for women to teach you what to do? Or are you looking for politicians to teach you what to do? What exactly are the new expectations being put upon men? If you're a grownup, I don't really see the problem you're alluding to. If you want a family with a woman, you're going to have to prove that you're not a liability to her. It doesn't make sense for a woman to partner with a man who does nothing to make her life better. Especially if he expects her to birth and raise his progeny. Men already congregate in spaces online to talk about dominating women and taking the vote away from us. If men can spend time doing this, I don't see why they can't come together to discuss how to be better partners and husbands. Lastly, you could look to role models like Barack Obama, Doug Emhoff, and Tim Walz to take cues from them.

So many issues with this report. First I would have liked both a male and female journalist on this rather than just two woman. There was a level of condescension that made it seem as though the men were just not smart enough to know what was best for them. I think these young men are simply pushing back against a narrative that they are the enemy by leaning into another extreme with the hopes it might bring balance. Also there is this assumption in the report that all men struggle in school at young ages while young girls do not. That over simplification is harmful. It’s always been about style of learning and what types are best for each individual child. Not “gender based” learning where we talk down to one vs the other. Additionally, while I am NOT a Trump supporter, to think that these young men are just useful idiots to the MAGA agenda puts almost zero burden on Killmala and the Democratic Party to establish a message that encompasses all of her constituents. Thus far her campaign has been downright pathetic and focused only on pop culture trends and fear mongering. Really a disappointing effort by the Daily

Whose views or values are so clearly in conflict with your own? Wouldn't you have some desire to come together with or understand that person? Or is this avowed selfishness just so inured in American political life that we can't even understand our own partners? Whether you're a "man" who refuses to vote on anything other than the economy - surely not on justice for women or LGBTQ people, or issues of racial justice, because a real man would never care about such a thing - or if you're a progressive feminist who hasn't exactly done the right things when it comes to the incel/"men's rights" movement of the past 10 years that probably turned Gen Z men into what they are?

Gays vote for democrats because they are more likely to defends lgbt rights, but when both parties back lgbt rights, gays will vote in a more diversified way. Also, it was interesting to hear the female interviewees toward the end that were sympathetic toward guys wanting to be bread winners. Most of what I hear from my single female friends is that they're liberal but they want a man that earns more than they do (although this doesn't always happen for each of them.) Part of feminism's effect on politics will eventually be that the some couples - perhaps half of families with children - need to be okay with dad staying home and raising the kids while mom earns more money.

A surprising amount of agreement between the young men and women interviewed here: they both agree that men should be providers, and most agreed that the man should be making more. The women are feminists and believe in equal pay and opportunity, but at the same time want a partner who is doing better than them. Also interesting that women want a partner that shares their moral values, but the education system largely run by women makes it hard for men to get the education that is correlated with having those moral values (higher educated men are more progressive).

That boys develop later is a myth more than anything, there'd be some research but to the extent it's indicative it's extremely overemphasized, if one is interested in comparing cohorts there'd generally be way larger discrepancies between say children born in January as opposed to December, or even worse, differences in between particular individuals in particular environments, I get the feeling that certain explanations are sought after such as "boys develop later" because it's derogatory,...8+ years ago and for a long time I recall every article in leftist media almost regardless of topic had to have pieces of female empowerment and/or female victimhood however it'd put men in the inferior position, now this writing seems forgotten for the most part though. I think if one is to draw conclusions based on data such as college graduations etc you can't do that unless you define what it's all about, they're graduating, as who into what, they're getting into leadership positions, where and through what system, if it's DEI, quotas, or even political leanings (i.e. it's cool to hire female compared to man) that's regulating hiring practises than college or not it doesn't matter. Girls are generally more dutiful than boys, but don't misconstrue dutifulness as being the objectively superior (mature) behaviour, it's just a behaviour, and besides it's dutifulness to a system which isn't exactly flawless
