Of note is it's the Cinnabar Island lab that changes fossils into pokemon in Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, not the Pewter museum. In Gold, Silver, and Crystal it changes to Pewter because Cinnabar's volcano erupted and took out the fossil revival lab.

Technically, Saffron/Celadon/Cerulean/Vermilion all together represent Tokyo. For the sake of the game, however, it made more sense to divide these districts into four distinct towns. But given how urbanized all four are, and how little distance is in between them, it's clear that these cities were made to represent the one big megacity that is Tokyo. Vermilion is Tokyo's harbor, Saffron is Tokyo's business district, Celadon is Tokyo's commercial district, and Cerulean is... another miscellaneous part of Tokyo. These four cities are Kanto's urban core.

I'm currently in Japan and have been making my way around the 'real life' Kanto. Have covered all cities except for Pallet, Cinnabar, Viridian, and Fuschia. Viridian is scheduled for this weekend, and Cinnabar the weekend after.
Technically pallet town is named after "Pallet Town" island in Tokyo which is in the same approximate location. That "Pallet Town" is named after Shipping pallets because of the amount of shipping docks in the area. Otherwise it would be Palette Town, which is also a Mall in Tokyo near Pallet Town.
Though never stated, it is implied Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh (the regions based in parts of Japan) are part of the same country. I don't remember all the stuff that points towards it, but one is the fact that there is a continuity in the Route numbering style of the regions. Johto continues from were Kanto left off, as it's an adjacent region. Hoenn and Sinnoh have higher numbers but it's clearly meant to be part of the same system. Unova and Kalos being regions located elsewhere in the world start back from Route 1. I'm pretty sure there are dialogue hints to the fact that the first 4 regions are strongly connected but I don't remember it.
The fossils are revived in Cinnabar, not Pewter, however you do get one of the fossils (Old Amber) at the museum. Also the "unnamed mountains" are partially named in so much as there is Mt. Moon.
Fun facts: When measuring my maps to real world scale, I decided to compare it to Hoenn and got that from Little Root to Odale would be around around 60km. Use that info to compare to the nearest distance to you, it is a fun game.
Great video! Just a little mistake: fossils aren't brought back to life at Pewter City but at Cinnabar Island :) ! (At least in Red/Blue/green, since the island dissapeared in Gold/Silver/Crystal)
While I would definitely love to see more regions from the Pokemon world, I also would like to see one for the Four Nations (and Republic City) from the Avatar, the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra, please.
Pokemon is such bullshit. It's the same game released over and over again with minor improvements that are hardly even noticeable. People freak out over Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, and Battlefield for being the same game released each year but it seems like Pokemon and Mario aren't called out for doing essentially the exact same thing. It's not okay when other game producers do it so I don't think Nintendo should get a pass either.
Actually the hardware for the game boy was made in the 70's, they used an older hardware to cut the costs of making it which in turn is what made it so popular.

I liked this! I know that this channel's main focus is on real world geography and georgraphic terms, but I think fantasy geography would be a cool "every once in a while" thing. And if you do a fantasy geography video again, I vote J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" world, it would be fascinating.

I feel it would have been slightly more effective had you used the Super Game Boy images from the original games for the towns. There you would have seen that the color pallet changes to represent the color-related name of the city.

saffron is actually named after the colour saffron which is yellow. all the cities are named after colours so that they could make each city that respective colour in the games. Also crocus is pronounced Cro-kus not crock-us. All organic pigments come from plants. The plant connection isn't relevant.
I've kinda always wondered If each of the regions in the Pokemon Universe actually had a functioning Military [Vehicles,Aircraft,Etc] Not Pokemon fighting FOR Them...
4:58 So I looked up Machida. Your marked location is NOT Machida (pronounced with a typical Ch sound, contrary to how Cody pronounced it). It's part of the Tokyo Metropolis, north of the prefecture marked (called Kanagawa). The precise location marked is more of Yokosuka, which borders Yokohama to the south. The statistics of Machida given, however, are correct.
this is 2 years old, but was hoping you can compare the old maps too. like in gen 1 and 2 kanto seems to be a grassland with minimum trees. in gen 3 it is actually a forested area, even pewter is surrounded by trees instead of mountain. in gen 4 the northern part becomes more mountainous.
