Sinkankas was an absolute legend, both in minerals and lapidary. So glad you saved his machine!

I can't believe you managed to scoop up Johns machine! That's incredible. On the topic of books, John Sinkankas wrote many books, including a personal favorite of mine, Mineralogy which has a place on ever mineral collectors shelf.

I also really like his An Annotated Bibliography. Really really handy for research, I really want to know how he made these biblio books.

That's a one-of-a-kind piece of history. I wonder if there are any miniature faceting machines out there 🤔 I'd love to work on one if there are

Wow! That was an amazing machine, used to facet some incredible stones! Those quartz eggs, with the two different style of facets, are so beautiful and have such amazing and intricate facets that decorate the piece, all the way around it. I was noticing that the two eggs have totally different cuts! And that beryl is just amazing and so beautiful! And not to mention the other enormous stones that he managed to facet! They are all just so far and beyond anything else being cut either back then, or even today! Your museum holds the fascinating machines that tell the stories of all these legends of gem cutting, that pioneered what it is today! Thank you for your hard work and putting it all together! And your book is going to be amazing in telling the history of the birth of this industry and how it got to where it is today! I absolutely can't wait for it to be finished! You are just an amazing story teller, and your book is is going to be just as amazing. Im sure of it! Thanks Justin!

"The GIANT Faceting Machine " .....there's nothing GIANT about that machine
@JustinKPrim
@JustinKPrim 5 месяцев назад
How So? It's double or triple the size of a normal machine. That qualifies as giant to me.
@Jack44M
@Jack44M 5 месяцев назад
@@JustinKPrim I guess it depends on the definition of "normal". BTW, do you teach your students to use their fingers to hold the material or use a dop stick?
@JustinKPrim
@JustinKPrim 5 месяцев назад
@@Jack44M both. The preforming happens in the hand. The fine preforming and hand shaping happens on the dop for better control.
