I bought this laptop last November. I was super impressed by it, unfortunately the Wi-fi card died within a month. Soon as I was about to have Lenovo repair/replace it, I was gifted a Steam Deck as an early Christmas gift from my Fiancé. When I wasn't at my desk the Steam Deck was more convenient to travel with or game around the house. So I returned the Legion 9i. I mostly play single player RPG's and 90% of them are Steam Deck verified. I don't regret the decision.
Lenovo Legions' are so well built. I had my i9 4070 over a year now and still plays anything you can throw at it (assuming the devs PC port is actually decent). Yesterday I played Mafia Definitive edition and accidently put the integrated graphics card on. Was playing in ultra @ 2k at 60 fps and didn't even notice for a while. Switched the dGPU on and of course was 100+ fps. Point being, every aspect of this hardware is capable and well built. Would not hesitate to buy another one.
Incredible quality as always. Great review. I am currently running a ROG Strix R9 5950HX with an Nvidia 3060. It's amazing how far I can still push this config, but seeing those Cyberpunk numbers blows my mind. I am currently in the market for a £3000-3500 laptop, as I would like to go bonkers this time and make it last as long as possible. This one is definitely in the running. Thank you again for the time taken here - truly great information.
Much appreciated @AJUK_LIVE! Love to hear that you’re still getting good use out of your Strix R9 5950 HX. These laptops are a serious investment man, so squeeze that lemon for every last drop lol! Whatever you decide on for your next daily driver, take advantage of a solid warranty plan if you can. Especially if you’re an overclock guy.
I still use lenovo legion 5 Ryzen 7 5800H with RTX 3060 got it on sale in 2022 for £700 It’s been fantastic never had an issue with it. Easy to upgrade ram and SSD which i did day one. I was so impressed with the quality and performance. If i ever get another laptop it will be a legion!
I looked at the Legion line, and tried the 14.5" OLED which was beautiful but ended up with an open box OMEN Transcend 16, i9 13950HX and a 4070 and a beautiful panel for under $800. Its a beast. The Lenovo build quality is hard to beat though I can definitely tell
Beyond annoying that Lenovo doesn't manufacture an 18" legion like the rest of the competition. I can't go back to a 16" after using an 18" size, everything is 14" & 16" options, so annoying for those who enjoy the larger screen real estate.
I would have loved to see how the battery life fairs if the laptop is used for work on IGPU. I mean, i do understand that people wanna see battery life under full load playing games but that doesn’t even need to be tested since maximum power will always drain the battery around 30-90 mins mark. It would have been better to test at certain resolutions with fixed frame rates to have a balanced approach to battery life.
A question regarding Legion 9i Gen 8 vs Legion 9i Gen 9. According official spec Legion 9i Gen 8 allows memory overclock up to 6400 MHz (with 32gb) while Gen 9 does not. 1) Is this overclock possible to launch using standard Lenovo tools (without going BIOS) ? 2) What what would be benchmark/temperature difference at that point (Gen 8 RAM overclocked vs Gen 9) ?
I don't own a gaming laptop I wish I did. Im new to PC gaming and just got me the rog ally a few weeks ago and Im In love. Coming from console gaming. The rog ally was gifted to me. So hopefully one day I can own a gaming laptop. I did some research Even if I sold the PS5 I wouldn't have no where near enough for a decent gaming laptop. One day 🤞🏼. Great video I really enjoyed it jealous but enjoyed it ✝️🙏🏼🫶🏼🤟🏼
Just ordered one of these 2 days ago. Hopefully it's as good as your review :D. To answer your question at the end of the video, this laptop just made sense (for me personally). I'll be travelling overseas for 2 months soon, so tax claim back at the airport, Easter sale dropped the price from $7900+ to $6037, followed by live chat rep dropping to $5898 with the GB700 bag. On top of all that, 13.2% cashback from Shopback. So the total cost after all these reductions was only about $4700~ AUD ($3060 USD). Quite a good time to grab it.
That's very good price I got one too but unfortunately I didn't get as much as you get discounts I paid 6140 with 64 gb 4090 gpu and 3 years premium warranty، could you please let me know how didn't you get the price down you almost getting 20% on top of the 23% they offered، I mean you got about 43% discounts
@@FreeSync12 I'm confused. What do you mean how? I listed how in my comment lol. Easter sale coupon, Shopback cashbacks, flying overseas so claim back the GST at the airport.
I mean I paid 6140 AUD with Easter coupon rtx 4090 64 gb of ram 1 tb ssd with 3 years premium warranty. How much in total you paid for it and how much tax return you get, I think I made a mistake on my comment. You said 12% shop back what does that mean 😊
@@FreeSync12 It's apples to oranges. If you don't live in Australia or in the same circumstances eg. travelling overseas, then it's really irrelevant to compare. Be happy and move forward :)
This is a bit of a disappointing review, in that it doesn't cover a bunch of topics people might wonder about. For example, it's great that it's got a "cool" water cooling system, but what does that actually do to thermals and fan noise? Also, I'm interested in a gaming laptop because I might do some gaming on the go, and so benchmarks at lower power settings would be highly relevant before deciding to purchase.
@@wickedfrow That's correct it was due to portability, plus it the Razer plays all my favorite games at hight settings perfecly fine with excellent FPS
Would there be any concern with using this as a desktop replacement and then taking it on the go? What I mean is would the constant plugging and unplugging of monitor cables to the laptop when on the go or moving to another spot in my house be an issue? I know it's liquid cooled somewhat but would the 4090 not last very long in a laptop if you used it A LOT. These are all the things I'm worried about given how expensive it is. And I don't see a damage plan on Lenovo website, just if you get a available model at best buy
Very nice laptop, but I just bought an Alienware M16 R2, RTX 4070, i7 ultra, 16gb ram for $1299.99, and have 64gb ddr5 5600 ram ready to install, so 3x less than the Legion. Coming from a 2011 Toshiba Satellite L650 with an i5 and 8gb ram, plus going several hundred over my budget, the Alienware is the pinnacle of my gaming experience to come.
I love how it could replace a desktop PC. Put it in a 8k TV with AI autoupscale and it would be perfect. This is my wish but the money tell another history
Is there no alternative with a Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the RTX 4090? Or is it because of Intel's monopolistic agreements that prevent AMD from pairing their best processor with the latest RTX ? ....
Do you know if their is a stand out there that is 16inches in length to allow the legion 9i to fully sit so both the front and rear raised basils are properly covered. Currently the one you use an one I bough only allow the front which results in the laptop tipping slightly on the back side
Man.. you know that’s a good question. I’m still on the look out for such a stand. But for now I have added these riser feet here that help to mitigate the tipping. a.co/d/9VNgpvs If you place them on the bottom of the 9i, right where the stand makes contact, it helps to level things out without the need to extend the 3rd party riser feet
Thanks for the info much appreciated. Question? On cyberpunk what was result of benchmark tests for you if you run everything on max with path tracing off and Ray tracing set to psycho with ray reconstruction on??? I currently get 104 average but I was wondering if that’s Similair or significantly less than what you get. I was testing at 1440p resolution
@@MrTekSuggest it’s a graphic setting in cyberpunk for the raytracing to select psycho I was just curious what your 9i is getting I am averaging like 104 fps with path Tracing off and graphics set to max and ray tracing set to psycho
I think it would be beneficial to mention for creators who are always on the go wanting a mobile desktop replacement that the 3200 screen on this thing has HDR 1000, 100% DCI-P3 ‘and’ 100% Adobe RGB!! Almost unheard of for a laptop to have both colour gamut’s available!! Thought I’d mention it as this is pretty much what my lifestyle is headed toward, though I’m a gamer too, so this is a bit of a beast for me for sure!!
Got a L5p 16" 12700/3070. For me the fact that last drivers for gpu and some other stuff were almost two years ago gives me a good clue on how much they respect their customers, not to mention the forum and lenovo representatives clueless responses.... But these laptops are solid mofos....... Also how much is the watt on the 4090 125 or 150/175? cause ive seen the ones with 125w at 1440p and cant say they're worthy of these price tags... 70-75fps with CP on ultra/DLSS/FG/RT high 1440p 4090 125w...........
from some reason it feels like the legion 9i gen 9 has the most unique looking and more solid looking keyboard i definitely liked ths rog strix 18 the most but this one in someways break the rog strix 18
Bro there is something I don't understand if apple can build something as powerful as this lenovo why is that they don't wanna put the same amount of battery life the macbook 16 is up to 21 hours yet it can be as powerful as this lenovo I don't understand that at all please explain me that
That was honestly the worst battery test I've ever heard in my life, and I'm not blaming lenovo I mean you. Its 2024 we all know by now we aren't going to buy a gaming laptop and game with it on the battery and expect good battery life that isn't even worth bringing up or realistic. Atleast put the real time you would spend web browsing, watching shows movies etc. That was one of the dumbest battery test I've ever heard in my life I dont know why people even both to include gaming AAA or any game for that matter off battery it holds no relevance.
@@Shapeshifterxx yo. i googled it and you need a usb-c to displayport adapter. then use the usbc slot on the laptop that has the displayport logo next to it.
Hey man, are you looking at the CPU or GPU temp? And what software are you using to monitor it? 35 to 40 while idle sounds fairly normal. But 40 C during heavy load , not so much. Is your performance still up to par? What’s the ambient temp roughly of your room/home?
Unfortunately it’s hard to find any reviews regarding AI development. Instead I see a lot of “kids” reviews for gaming. I never played any game. I want to see purchase criteria for AI development purposes Nvidia vs. Apple Neural engine. But I understand that this content is for another audience. So I guess for your channel your “review” seems to be on the point. Nothing for me though.
Dude we all know that a laptop gpu is less powerful than a desktop, but can you carry your desktop on a plane and if so are you willing to store it with other people's luggage and be handled by airport baggage employees?
@@jackattack2060 no, I can't. But I'm not saying laptops are useless. Did I actually say that? No. What I'm saying is 4090 must not be named 4090 if its actual power is equal to 4070 ti super. That's a lie. Am I wrong?
