The Godfather Part III: Full Opening

I’ll take any third film that isn’t awful, it’s so rare. Like Dark Knight Rises isn’t fantastic, but compared to the third films of trilogies like Hangover, Oceans, and Matrix, it and Godfather are solid

The main story of GF3 is great. Most of the cringe is due to the casting choice for Michael's daughter.

I fully agree, even though its not at the level of "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II" it still hold its own.

It’s just the first two were perfect, I mean if this movie were a stand alone movie it would be regarded as a very good movie still

This scene was scripted and shot to be the opening scene of the movie... the fact that Coppola has since restored it to its rightful place indicates to me a recognition of his mistake in repositioning it 40 minutes into the film instead of opening it as intended. It's essential that this scene - as the above fan edit so brilliantly does - is before the title sequence; it's a precursor for what follows, the wellspring (thematically and dramatically) from which Michael's final doomed quest for both legitimization and salvation flows from. Without it, in it's originally-intended and rightful place, the overall narrative lacks the gravitational centre required... the audience doesn't grasp the full importance of the Immobilare deal and why its so important for the ageing Michael... a last chance of redemption... for his family's legacy and for his very soul. With it, the whole rest of the movie snaps into focus. If Part III had the opening this fan edit gives it, with the rest of the movie exactly as is - minus the opening sequence moved to the beginning rather than 40 minutes in - then it would have been a better movie overall and likely better received in many quarters, flaws notwithstanding. At the end of the day, the absence of Robert Duvall proved fatal, in my opinion... but darn it, I still like this film a great deal... although I wish Coppola had picked someone like Ennio Morricone to score it. Part III is very good... if it isn't truly great like its two predecessors, I lay that blame at Paramount's feet, had they allowed Coppola to make that film on his terms, he could well have delivered another masterpiece, alas...

The fact that Paramount under budgeted this movie cost Robert Duvall his role which in turn cripples my enjoyment of the movie. The fact that Tom Hagen is missing leaves a hole that cannot be filled.

Easy there _Mrs Vital-Crumb Co._ You don't have some sort of artistic third-eye that opens to where only you _get it_ and the rest of us Philistines are simply too feeble-minded to understand. Nah, we just realize it's hard to capture lightning in a bottle three separate times. This film has it moments, but it just can't compete with its two perfect siblings👌

You don’t have some sort of special artistic pedigree let alone control over freedom of speech that allows you to nullify someone else’s view and claim that your view is somehow superior to that of others, even if you’re a Philistine. That’s also the case in point-this movie is of that class and it is addressed to everyone and it is that good, no matter where you come from. Nah, you just realised that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and this film as not meant to compete but to rather complete a story, whether you like it or not.

Speaking for myself: no. I understand the film is about Michael's decline and death. That doesn't mean it's good.

I was kind of annoyed when I first saw the movie like 10 years ago I felt the same thing. But after having my every couple of Years Godfather weekend , watching them in succession, it kind of shows his commitment to seriously trying to go legitimate. I don't know if his acting Choice was the best but he's Pacino so, I guess I won't question LOL but I definitely saw your point

A metaphor for the demise of the Corleone family and Michael's soul. The theme of Part 3 is redemption.

It is Società Generale Immobiliare in real life. The whole movie reflects on the Bank Ambrosiano scandal and it goes to the extra mile to pick actors that look like real life politicians. For example compare Lucio Gelli and Don Licio Lucchesi in the movie (even the names match...)

Reminds me of the opening of Godfather 1, as the camera slowly pans out and we see the back of Brando's head. This opening would've been much better for the plot of the film and a call back to #1.

It was slow and confusing in parts because the plot of the Vatican Bank and Immobilare was at times cumbersome and not explained. Also, the romance between Vincent and Mary was not believable. At least to me.
