Just another day of the Warriors being run by people that should never run a club. It has always been that way since the inception of the Warriors. They have been plagued by, management after management failures, to retain some of the best players and coaches in the game. It became the club to finish your carer at or take the clause in your contract, now it's not even that. There are people that were in management from the start that are still there failure after failure. No one cares if he got a golden hand shake, he's a terrible player and was the only option because no one else was putting up their hand to sign. The reputation of this club is so bad that it would be a miracle if a notable player or coach was to sign. We all know the reason RTS signed and it wasn't to win a championship with the Warriors but with the Blues and then the All Blacks. NZRL have done zero to help grass roots and that is another big problem that adds to the big problems at the Warriors. I wish some of those Warriors were as honest as Chanel, some of them need to ask themselves if they really should be in there.
If a player DECIDES to walk, they shouldn't leave with pockets full of cash, unless they have earned it and a weakling that lays down to win games didn't EARN it imo

It was probably because the NZ government wouldn't let him into their country (for previous offences) once this season is over. Warriors didn't do the due diligence on this and so were left with no choice but to pay him out. The reason they didn't speak on this was to save Lodge and his family from further embarrassment.

Maybe he got sick and tired of working for a piss poor organization that focuses more on bringing it down than up. Maybe he just wanted to see what it felt like to enjoy footy again without the glitz and glamour. Looked like he had fun. I say good on him.
So are you suggesting he is going to play park footy for free? It's bad business by the club and really poor form by a guy who fought hard to get back into the NRL and be accepted by fans. For sure good on him, hope he uses this bonus to pay the family he tormented in the U.S.A
I agree he's the only one who gave a dam over there. I remember the Storm game warriors down by 65 but Lodge still there tackling his guts out and trying to disrupt the storms rhythm. Too bad he was the only one doing it though 😂. I'd say he's earned his payout

This is why you need your own junior base. Buying players is easy you don’t have to invest physically or financially. But this is their loyalty. He is acting like those Journalists here who work from home & refuse to go back to their offices. I’m not moving to New Zealand, when he is playing for a team that is based in Auckland. No he as a player is an opportunistic person that should be drummed out of the game. Make an example out of him, players will realise this.
I'm a Kiwi. The Warriors are awful. Once every fifteen years, they'll hit a purple patch and succeed, up to a certain point. Otherwise, they're generally in the bottom 1/4 of the ladder. The have really good players join the club, play badly for a season or two, leave, and then play great somewhere else. They have coaches that are highly successful elsewhere, have no results for the Warriors, leave, and then are great coaches again. There's no excuse, given the level of talent - players and coaches - they consistently have, to fail so miserably all the time. There is something wrong with the club.
@Logical Perspective @Logical Perspective Yes, most of our coaches have been average, but here are the coaches that weren’t average, before they coached the Warriors): These coaches won one or more Super League titles: Matthew Elliott, Nathan Brown, Frank Endacott, Brian McClennan, and John Monie (also won Grand Final). Daniel Anderson took Paramatta to the grand final in 2009, they replaced him for 2010, and the team went 10 and 14 and didn't make the top 8. We've all seen what Cleary has done (yes, with a better team), and look at Todd Payton and the Cowboys. Are these coaches top-tier? No (maybe Cleary is). But some of them are coaches with high levels of success in the biggest game that counts. That experience should translate into more wins than losses.

What also doesn’t make sense is they sign Dunamis Lui for the rest of season instead of promoting their other 2 front rowers Bunty Afoa or Aaron Pene to the starting lineup. BMM is currently the other prop. So they already had 3 front rowers
The only thing I can think off is that the nz immigration didn't approve of lodges living permanently in nz due to his past history, so the warriors feels obligated to pay him out because its not his fault maybe 🤔🤔🤔 warriors should have investigate these things before signing up players with such history

Definitely agree that the NRL need to investigate about another stupid actions by the Warriors again. Those running the club are just as bad as the playing group. The wooden spoon can be their only reward
I don't know if that's a serious question, but here it is. Matt Lodge is a prop forward who played his first two years at the Tigers. After the 2015 season, he went to New York and was charged with serious criminal offences. He got drunk, chased a couple of German tourists and attacked a good samaritan. He broke into the bloke's apartment and started damaging his property before the Police arrived. He got sued for $2,000,000US, but he didn't go to jail. People (obviously) think he got off lightly. He returned to the NRL three years later. He played the majority of his career with the Broncos, before tearing his ACL and moving to the Warriors in 2021. Generally speaking, because of his criminal history, people just don't think he's worth the effort.
He had a clause in his contract that if he had to leave the club due to relocation, his contract would be paid out as to continue his payments to his assault victim and maintain his character rehabilitation whilst finding a new club.

Could Lodge not have had a get out clause in his contract? Moving his entire family and life to another country is a big deal and requires a big decision and maybe he had something in his contract as a safety net.🤷🏻♂️
Broncos could make sense if Payne has is forcing himself out the door. Broncos will get him for 20 cents on the dollar and save cash to pay some of their young guns next season
This man is far from the best name in football and is low amongst my rankings of being a prop...... much maligned much ado about nothing with this guy.... waste of money and waste of time for our Warriors Organisation in the NRL.
