As the mirror moves back out, the spring pin should stop the mirror at the right point and the motor will stop a moment later when it senses the resistance. However if the spring pin sticks in, the mirror will continue until it hits something that provides resistance for the motor to stop. While it is a pian in the *** to get to, the spring pin can be cleaned and oiled. To get to it, remove the mirror cap. Then remove the retaining clip for the mirror assembly. The assemble is under spring pressure so be careful. The spring pin is on the underside of the mirror housing hinge. Nothing hods it in, so be careful not to drop it and lose it. Remove the pin, again be careful not to lose the spring behind it. Clean everthing up, lightly oil the pin and reassemble. Putting the mirror assembly back on is a PITA. You may need assistance to compress the spring and re-insert the retaining clip.
Love these german car / vag rebuilds. The gte is coming along nicely, the rear bumper could easily be sorted tbh, but sometimes it works out cheaper to replace the panel, but do some research and you'll know for sure. Keep up the hard work 👍
very informative video thanks paul, keep them coming mate , I just wonder if you can help , am after vw touran dashboard , there are only few available on ebay and quite expensive as well, I would rather repair the one that Came with car (deployed) if you can let me know which company you recommend , thanks in advance mate
Paul there is a small dot under the bolt for the steering wheel, when you remove the centre bolt you’ll see the 2 marks. The marks are basically the zero mark for the steering angle. Also your last video the grill comes forward once you take the 4 top bolts out👍🏻
It's only because the airbags are now completely covered by the dashboard itself. Early passenger airbags were mounted separately, with big AIRBAG letters. I would gladly trade the clean look for a return to separate airbags.
I had the happen with the mirror on a bmw and an Audi A5 I had before.. there’s a way 100% to reset them but I can’t remember… I’ll have a dig online quickly
That dash out is nothing compared to a City Rover, that Golf is a doddle. No dash harnesses that plug straight into a main harness. Every plug fits everything else 😆 its like spaghetti junction, wires everywhere that go to anything and everything 😆
After seeing three videos and loving it from start to end. I was literally thinking you having like at least 500k subs. Seeing you with just 27k hurts me. Youre an amazing guy making some great content. You definitely deserve my sub and hope many more come to you who watch all your content! Please keep up doing the stuff you love
Paul, importand question , my car is cat S but smalll damage will just replace this week headlamp and repair little corner bumper, I just sent v62 to dvla, when I receive v5c then need pay tax and insure car, my question is this car still have valid MOT till march 2022 year, so I need to do new MOT before put car on road?
Manufacturers really like to make things difficult. Surely they can easily design the dashboard to have an independent passenger airbag unit. So stupid to have to do all that just because of the passenger airbag!
I would think there is supposed to be some kind of physical stop to prevent the mirror from unfolding too far. Then the motor drives until current draw goes high when the end-stop is reached then the fancy electronics cuts the current to the motor. A pin or something that's missing or broken perhaps?
Looking fab this. Love Golfs, although I am biased TDI owner. I had a test drive in a GTE and e-Golf and loved them both. I couldn't stretch the GTE's legs really but it drove well enough and just looks great too. I must admit, the e-Golf was very impressive too. I'd still love a GTE though, the hybrid power giving that extra bit of welly. So happy to see this one being fixed up. Hope the washer bottle doesn't cause too much bother, unless it's already been done, and if that's the case - my hat is well and truly doffed!
Helloooooooo, thanks for your vid i have exactely the same car with the same crash. So your vidéo help me a lot !! Big thanks!! I have a question, you dont disconnect the battery before replace the airbag and Dashboard ? If you disconnect how do you do this? Thanks !
@@CarsForPaul i had my liquid battery and motor liquid Cooling fell on the road i need to replace the two radiator, if you have any trick I listen to you with pleasure
Hi Paul I've seeing that the power steering lamp was on after you reassembled the dash, that's due to the steering angle sensor not being calibrated you can do that using VCDS but you need to be careful in the assembly of the clock spring that's not overturned. I've just done it after replacing the clock spring, if you need help with it let me know. And looking forward to see this project passing the technical inspection!
Hi Paul Congrats on pulling out the dash and replacing it with the new one, how you remember where all the parts go is beyond me and that includes mechanical repairs you carry out . i have noticed you use the cordless ratchet regular, as i have just purchased one with an extra battery can it be used as a lever and how do you rate it, I've just charged the battery's ?
