Another insightful episode! I acquire new knowledge every time. Wouldn’t it be something if we accepted everything in that book as fact and made a movie set in that time, monsters, Antichrist, and fantastic geography included?

Oh Yes! That sounds cool. We’ll make a movie that will become as good as the Lord of the Rings. 😊🌟🌟🤘

I do believe that you have read "Baudolino" written by Umberto Ecco. It might be described as biography of an invented, fictionary character placed in the 13th century in Lombardia. "Baudolino" is rather simple-minded young lad with unexpected ability to quickly learn almost any language. Umberto Ecco "enabled the accidental encounter" between Baudolino and Frederic Barbarossa. Several true historic events like the fall(?)/the pillage of Constantinople and Crusades are described. But...to cut the long story short..this fiction-historic novel includes the legend about Prater Johan (il prete Giovanni), who reportedly reached the Middle East...and then travelled slightly further toward East where he established just and fabulously rich kingdom where subjects were not "ordinary" humans but sciapods and those headless monsters with eyes, nose and mouth on their torso. Fine book with very special humorous angle.

@@BoldBooksandBones my pleasure. And the way Ecco describes Barbaraossa's exasperation after repeated failures to establish stable rule over the Italian towns in the "conquered" North.....constantly reshaped unreliable alliances among some towns .... absolutely hilarious 🤣 I will just add that Baudolino is not actually a dumb young man but more someone like Dostoevsky's "Idiot", that is: a person considered an idiot by other, "normal" people who themselves being driven by ambition, greed, spitefulness...do not understand what motivates a loyal, generous person who seeks neither glory and gold nor revenge.

Hi! The "monsters" could be descriptions of people with diseases, the man with the big foot could be somebody with gigantism or filariasis, a disease caused by worms and common in some places.

Hi Hermanubis, thank you for sharing this! I did not know such conditions existed. Maybe you are right, it could be a possible explanation for the big foot "monster". So cool you shared this info. I learned something new again. Have a great day!

Will this book make us realise its a waste of our time traveling in Airliners to distant destinations at the expense (warming) of the world we live in now as well as all the explotation of ourselves. Once to travel the world was adventure now its a lazy way to satisfy inert minds.
