I just want to clear up something about the random blurred patches in remote locations: Sometimes it's a body. A friends dad died hiking in the mountains and it was too dangerous to retrieve his body so it's still up there. It would be visible from google earth, but the spot is blurred thankfully.
My parent's house is forever frozen in time from when the Google street car went by in August of 2011. I was going into my freshman year of high school at the time and you can see our old dog Chubacka (I know, my mom spelled it wrong) chilling in the front yard. He unfortunately lived to only about 5 years old, and passed a year or 2 after that photo was taken. I still go on Google maps every so often to check back and look at him chilling as the Google car flew by. A true time capsule.
The Bulgaria one had me laughing. Axes are often used by people on the Balkans to chop wood since it's very common to have a fireplace instead of heating. The granny was also probably nervous since people here want to look their best and was caught off guard.
Here in Finland one of the creepiest Street View places is probably Hiljainen Kansa (The Quiet People). It is at road E63 between Suomussalmi and Piispajärvi. A field filled with human shaped scarecrows in human costumes. It is art installation and local people change the clothes of those scarecrows regularly so they look fresh every year.
I am a resident in Finland and I can say that this beside the fact that it is an art project does add to the Finnish aura. it's just like a regular cold afternoon driving around the countryside and just gaze up in awe and giggles finding something peculiar like this. it's nothing out of the ordinary.
I thought the pigeon mask people were weirdly wholesome. This group of friends made an effort to immortalize themselves being weirdos, however temporarily, for thousands to see. And they did it all anonymously. The same with the horse mask guy, shovel guitar guy, the Stig, etc. I just love that despite their backgrounds and separation by entire continents, there's always the innate human desire to be silly and goofy in front of cameras. Except for the Mexico one, that's probably just scary cartel guys lmao.
Similar to the dead pets case, i never had pictures of my old house/neighborhood/town before it was destroyed in a flood. Google does. I can take those walks and see the things I haven’t seen in over a decade. Amazing
39:40 "Man-shaped Lake" - hey guys, brazilian dude here, the lake is part of a fish farm where people pay a fee to go fishing for a day. These "Pesque e Pague" ("Fish and Pay") farms are quite common here in Brazil, so no big mistery: they just made the lake to be the outline of a person for publicity (and it's working, it seems)
The Chernobyl's skeletal remains is actually a quite depressing site. Not because somebody died and was left there but because of issues relating to dark tourism. After 2019 HBO mini-series about Chernobyl, which wasn't exactly done out of ill will, there was increased media interest in the site, especially the Exclusion Zone. Tourists and influencers begins to flock to the area. On one hand, that helped the local economy financially immensely. On the other hand, researchers had noticed travelling agency and salesmans picking up, moving dangerously contaminated metal, staging and placing animal bones to try create a spooky vibe, directly altering the historical site. No one had died on the site for a very long time now and the bones shown in the video is most likely an animal's. Concerns have be raised against this as, aside from historical and researching value, the items themselves are extremely dangerous to even be around. Yet you'd find people, rarely with safety equipment, eating, taking nude artsy photos and daring images sitting inside metal walls that still give off an alarming amount of radiation. Objects in buildings that were, before this, left there untouched by a human since the disaster, are now being reported missing because tourists keep nicking stuffs as souvenirs. I got this information from Kyle Hill as he goes on visit along side researchers. You can find a video documenting this issue on his youtube channel of the same name. Please give it a watch if you're interested as I'm just your average youtube commentors, prone to misremembering. ps: If i'm not mistaken, Kyle Hill and some researchers did come across the same bone site shown in this video.
For those that don't know, Vostok Island isn't actually censored, it's actually so densely forested by Pisonia trees the dark green leaves look black. It's right off the coast of Australia near Sydney so you can paddleboard out there in reasonably well enough time, it's nothing but coral atolls and really super thick forest so uninhabited by humans but to my knowledge there's some wildlife
Yeaaaahhh, that’s pretty difficult to believe, very strange if it’s true, even if she didn’t have any family, wouldn’t the fact that no power or water is being used raise red flags? Surely they’d notice such an irregularity and go and investigate, they’d be able to tell there was nobody living there anymore, and it wouldn’t take anywhere near 2 years to notice it.
Not that long ago I looked up a street view of my grandparents house. It's been empty, unused, and for sale since the late 2000s. I looked up the street view of how it was back in 2012; the grounds are being kept nice, a relative's car is out front, meaning they were there taking care of the place and the garage, the tiny porch is visible and still has chairs set up, and a nice little "for sale" sign is on the front door. The 2022 street view however has the house in a much more dilapidated state. The grounds and bushes are so bad you cant see into the front windows of the forst floor, the porch is falling apart and mostly hidden, "for sale" is just spray painted on a plank of wood just hammered on the facade, making it look even more abandoned and unloved. It depresses me when I see the contrast between 10 years... I dont even wanna imagine how it looks inside of the outside looks that bad.
My god, I’m sorry to hear that about your grandparents house. If possible, could you give the coordinates for the house? I’m interested in checking it out myself.
I lived in a town called rice Texas when I was really young, like baby young, and so I got to see what it was like when I was young and it looks way worse then than now so it's kind of the opposite situation to yours
In Iran Tehran, I went every summer to my great grandpa and great grandma's house, it was built by their own hands and it was so nice, and you couldve seen it in street view! But then they passed away 3-2 years ago, the house was planned to be demolished after its long 75 year lifetime, and I can't ever go back inside there or see it, and street view no longer shows it. Pretty similar to yours
The entry "a lake in an island in a lake in an island" is directly referring to the Lake Taal on the island of Luzon located in the northern end of the Philippines archipelago it holds a special distinction. It’s one of only two lakes in the world, as of now, to have a third order island within it the lake itself being part of the order. In other words, Lake Taal, which is located within the island of Luzon, has an island (Volcano Island) that has a lake (Crater Lake) that contains its own small island called Vulcan Point.
Except it's not. The one shown in the video is on Victoria Island in Canada. Lake Taal is more well known but the one in the video is correct, it was shown to be larger on Google earth since like 2012.
I've been to Mount Taal. You can ride a horse to the top and then whack golf balls into the final lake, which has to be quite hot. There are places all over where you see the ground ripped open & smoke pouring out.
30:42 I remember reading a really sweet piece about this, someone writing about how they could still see their deceased mother on street view and could like imagine that there was a world where everything was as it used to be and she was going about her days peacefully. They expressed it a lot better than I did, though
32:35 You see, it's actually quite a simple explanation. The car says "Chicago Police," but was in movement at the time the photos were taken, so once stitched together, the car was in two different places in the same photo sphere, leading to it saying "Chicago Poo Police." This image is also Photoshopped, however. If you notice, the second O in "Poo" is added in after, as it's noticeably darker than the O next to it, and it doesn't match up with the curvature of the rest of the letters. You can also see that the "IC" in "Police" has been removed, and the cover job was poor, looking at the seam of the door on the right. The "R" in "Protect" is also super noticeably edited out, so it's likely that whoever tried covering this up was kind of bad at Photoshop. Basically, the image had a stitching issue, someone saw an opportunity to edit it, and they took it, albeit a poor edit once looked at a bit closer.
@@pyropulseIXXI I don't really see signs of Photoshop here. This is just a result of a panorama mistake, just like the two-legged cat. The text is made out of the parts "CHICAGO PO-(lice)" and "(chicag)-O POLICE" and the darker "O" in "POO" looks different because it's taken from another picture taken at a slightly different time from a different angle. That's also why "protect and serve" is repeated. the image seems to come from the June 2019 coverage of the area, based on the parked cars, and this panorama was probably deleted for some reason. There is a possibility of editing though, since it's pretty crazy that the panorama stitching cut the O's that perfectly.
@@artemlyubchenko3022 I left a comment saying it was a movie SUV and the panorama feature. I just said it is pathetic people think this police car actually said 'POO' on it This video had a couple of blatantly obvious things that the dude just totally didn't seem to understand or see. I honestly don't understand how or why people miss blatantly obvious things
The police cars here, if read literally, say "WE SERVE AND PROTECT CHICAGO POLICE". Yeah, how true, lol. No, there's no punctuation, such as a period or colon after PROTECT, so the police cars really say they're here to protect their own police, lol.
I was goofing around on google street view yesterday, and found two interesting things while looking through my neighborhood in the 2007 and 2012 street view dates. 1) I found a man walking his dog, who decided to jump in the air when he realized the google truck was doing street view stuff. It was great. However, his face is oddly not blurred 2) I found my family’s truck in a full parking lot of my local mall, which has been closed for years now. I miss that mall dearly and seeing the truck i now drive there made me sob.
I love how these icebergs of yours perfectly skirt the line between "cozy video to listen to in the background" and "disturbing investigation into the dark abyss."
30:52 They're not actually leaning out, but rather lifting the mascot head outside of the window. If you look between the arms holding it up, you can notice their face

Great video man! As a fellow Google Maps nerd, I have a list of a few bonus entries that would have been cool to add: - Bristol Island UFO. (An image of an alleged UFO titled “Reichsflugscheibe” on Bristol Island in the South Sandwich Islands) - An Australian couple having… a bit of fun… on the side of a highway - A base in Afghanistan that only gets censored and camouflaged into the desert when you zoom in close enough - An unknown region of far eastern Russia that is oddly censored (just a brown rectangular blob in the middle of some mountains) - The oddly censored north Russian island called Severnaya Zemlya - Weird coverage of Paracel Islands in the South China Sea
30:26 One of my old dogs, now passed away, is still visible on Street View, napping away in the back yard of his last home. I still go back to that address on Maps sometimes to see him in a moment in time. Rest in peace, buddy.
The Dead Pets one actually makes me kinda happy. The fact that they are still living in those photos, playing happily makes me feel nice, I actually recently lost my dog last month so it makes me feel like there is a chance where I can find her again.
@@Unknown2007-j4r That would just be sad tbh. Btw it’s been almost two years since I posted this comment and I still miss my dog so much, haven’t been able to get over it.
There's something pretty major I'm surprised I NEVER hear anyone talk about. In Bakersfield, CA, if you go to the Pine Ridge Apartments, you'll see a ton of places marked with names such as "EDP445 Cupcakes." This is because that's the location where the infamous EDP cupcake video was filmed. You can even see the Rite Aid he was walking towards at the end. It's a kind of hilarious thing to see, yet nobody seems to know about it.
Isn’t EDP that disgraced pedophile RU-vidr? Is that related to the cupcake thing, or is the cupcake video separate from him being a pedo. That’s kinda funny he’s from Bakersfield because I could’ve sworn I’ve heard many people refer to that as one of the worst towns/cities in the whole US lmao
@@monhi64 Yep, that's the guy. The cupcake thing is because during the video where he got confronted, he said he was there to "pick up a cupcake," despite them being apartment buildings. As for Bakersfield, it's not really one of the worst cities in the US from my experience. It's not great by any means, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people say. It mostly just has a lot of bad neighborhoods and gangs, but so do the towns surrounding it. It's not as bad as a nearby town like Delano, but it's the biggest city around that area, so it's the one everyone says. (I think it's referring to the general area, since most people from the surrounding cities just tell people they're from Bakersfield.)
@@lacedupangel people aren't "obsessed" with him, they're just making light of the terrible things that happened. i can see why you don't find it funny though, it's still a disgusting situation
"Chicago Poo Police" was another panorama anomaly, you can tell by the weird shape of the windows and the 'we serve and protect' tagline partially repeating.
for some reason, my childhood neighborhood has always been censored on google maps ☹ it makes me sad because i have never been able to see how it has looked throughout the years
i have to correct myself, that actually isn’t a bug. “parallel pipes” made a video about google street view iceberg and he showed the same but he did it himself and showed more angles. that’s definitely not a bug
Censorship on Google Maps is really weird. Like, exploring my favorite Japanese alleyway, some images have a few building ads censored, but then you move a bit away and it's clear as day. Some figure stores have entire cases blurred. I saw one instance of these giant One Piece statues with blurred faces, which I thought was hilarious. It seems Google has some sort of blurring algorithm for faces, and sometimes it messes up a bit. Not an explanation for every instance, but it is a thing.
google looking at 23.7% of a billboard with only text on it: "ah yes, a face, surely this person does not want to be seen." tbf it's probably just that they don't want the algorithm to accidentally consider a face "not a face" and just made it extremely sensitive
Some white spots shown of 'blurred spots'...to me, these are not necessarily blurred, just probably pictures out of focus weather balloons. And the Himalaya mountain being blurred...it makes sense as nowadays the melting glaciers are displaying a lot of dead mountaineers.
45:47 hi from Mannheim! I got curious what this was about and started a google search, and funnily enough just through that, i found out that i live 1 minute away from them. Couldn't stop laughing for minutes after finding that one out and seeing how medias and people reported about this incident! About the person themselves, i see them nearly everyday and they are fine, just a very odd timing from street view on probably one of the hottest day of 2008 in germany when they were fixing their car. Also they had shorts on, its just not really visible in the blurry street view. Dog also was fine but of course they are no longer with them due to passing away sadly through aging. I probably will never be able to walk past their house without having this in my head and giggling.
51:55 in Brazilian mythology there is a kind of a myth surrounding a "shadow realm" called setealem, it's like a pitch black dimension and the way to enter it is when you "change rooms" like open a door, blink and many other ways idk that just reminded me of that
5:00 The image of the cat here actually isn't from google street view's panoramic camera, it's just an image edit purported to be a result of the google panorama. You can find the original image online if you look for it.
iirc vostok island isn't actually blacked out, it's just that the forest is very dense (and i assume there isnt a lot of high quality footage of it) so it appears black. that seems legit to me since the actual black spots look quite different, and it also wouldn't really make sense to only black out the middle and not the entire island given how small it is.
I remember about 12 years ago I was obsessed with maps and street view. I looked online for the weird stuff, and on a website there was a capture of a terrible accident (I think it was a motorbike) with the victim on the floor with his insides along the road. I’ve not been able to find anything about it since, and I exited the website immediately because I hated that stuff. I’d like to know more about what happened.
43:14 its been confirmed that that's just a iceberg. as the ship enthusiast. that is not the shape of any ship that could make it to Antarctica. also its from birds eye view so it would have to be on its side
I like your videos my guy but you really need to spend more time researching what you're talking about. Sometimes it's absolute nonsense , already debunked, or you're giving an incorrect interpretation of the iceberg placement
It’s odd, a kid in my class was using google maps, and the teacher comes up and says we can’t use google maps anymore. The kid asks why, and the teacher explained that a sixth grade girl was using google maps, and saw something disturbing. I wonder what she could have seen that caused an entire school wide ban, but the teacher didn’t say anything more when asked.
24:21 the Whitstable crab wasn't actually on Google earth, it was an artist in Whitstable who photoshoped a crab under the water on a satellite imagine and it made the local news
the street view for my house hasn't updated in over a decade and it just has a blurred out image of 9 year old me playing in my front yard lol. its weird tho because like the next street down and almost every other street has been updated. just my street hasnt
Okay Brew, I got a story for you. Imagine it's 2014, You're on your Wii U which has Street View on it called Street U, You're going through all this famous areas, you find the Play Museum and go inside and venture through every room and BAM! BIG BIRD IS THERE STARING YOU RIGHT IN THE FACE! That's what happen to me! I found a picture of Big Bird looking directly at the camera in a museum with nobody else in it, it scared the hell out of me! Since then I think I wasn't the only one who go scared of that image because I went back to that museum afew years later and they moved Big Birds head to be looking at the left instead of directly ahead, that's it, just wanted to tell you that.
The Chicago Poo Police thing is clearly just another "Panorama fucks up" moment, the text above the "Poo" is clearly just the same as the text above "Police" but cut off to say "We Serve and P"
the strange creature on the balcony was solved. They found the exact same statue outside a store nearby, pretty sure it was just a Halloween decoration.
48:34 this could also be referring to some dead guy (or puppet) hanged somewhere near mexico i believe. i remember hearing and seeing something like this, not sure if it was fake or not.
correction for the two-legged cat, its compression actually isnt caused by googles panorama camera. you can find the original image of the cat with its ears and all four legs floating around the internet. the image may have still been taken of google street view, but the editing of the body was done by a human
For people wondering iirc the reason theres stuff like the backrooms on Google maps and stuff is because people can submit images and put them in google maps.
41:58 China has many "replicas" of popular monuments simply because they don't want their citizens to leave the country. You know that China is entirely within it's own bubble, acting like a separate ecosystem with it's very restrictive internet and media. My guess is that China didn't want people to leave the country and possibly be exposed to other forms of media that would make them not want to come back, so they made replicas of obviously the Eiffel tower and others such as the Taj Mahal, the Roman Colloseum, and the Great Sphinx of Giza (Although, Egypt has requested China to take down this monument)
Is it just me or does the chuck e cheese mascot in car remind me of those videos that have a title called FOUND ABONDED CHUCK E CHEESE(SCARY) or something like that
I'm happy to see yet ANOTHER Google Maps related iceberg that's distinict from Gubby's and Parallel Pipes videos, making for one awesome collection. Great stuff!
25:10 Mini version of Australia in Australia reminds me of other similar places in the World. Here in Finland we have one articial lake that is shaped like Finland.
It's Astley, not Ashley. And the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone also includes Prypiat as well as Chornobyl, which is where a lot of those photos in the video are from, especially the Ferris Wheel.
51:10 - The black darkness is likely due to some kind of cover for the camera not being taken off by accident. It happened in multiple instances in different places of the world.
The amount of obvious things in this video that sourcebrew missed is crazy haha. He didn't even bring up the obvious boat making that "snake" in the water with the wake it produces. Along with the Chuck E Cheese "leaning out the window" and totally not seeing the dudes real face and hands holding up the head. But good video nonetheless keep it up man!
Most people that make iceberg videos dont really do their research, they even admit it themselves, idk why even make the video if you dont put in the effort, but whatever, some one is gonna defend the lazyness either way, "MaKe yOuR oWn ViDeO"
@@Yeb-wp9em Exact reason why I stopped watching most iceberg videos. As I listened, I would realize how little they dug in or how much they miss and I immediately become uninterested. Seemed so pointless to keep watching imo
@Cyanne it's pretty much why I try to watch iceberg videos only made by specialized creators who only focus on a subject, so whenever they make an iceberg video I can be assured that they actually care about the topic and will be genuinely informative.
You mentioned about the man pointing a gun towards the Google Street car was that, now, their whole house is blurred out. That's because, as it turns out, it was a scene of a death.
The strangest things I’ve seen on street view were primarily found in photo spheres in Chicago. Including a 360 camera sitting in the baked goods section of a Costco.
for Chernobyl, you can actually go inside the huge structure the reactor is covered in which is pretty cool but scary knowing someone had to go in there to take the picture.
Fun fact about Chernobyl, In February-April this year Russian soldiers occupied the site. They forgot that the soil was insanely radioactive, they dug trenches in the extremely radioactive soil, basically giving them a %100 of having severe illness later in life.
